SPRING 2026 AREA VENUES CHECKLIST

Notes:

FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK

“The

Next 25 Years”

For the spring show, March 2025, SHOW DAILY began the change, in celebration and recognition of 25 years. In the fall, we continued making the change through a “reinvention of the ink.” All of this was taking place as I pondered whether I belonged in publishing.

Today, I solidify that notion as I present to you the face of “

The Next 25 Years of Show Daily Magazine.”

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:

“The show must go on, but not without Show Daily; not as long as I’m here or in any part of the world, for that matter.”

With this issue, I’m proud to show off our achievements. And as you can see, we’ve raised the bar. As the Editor, it is my goal to continue to improve content, composition, and fluidity, with sharpness unparalleled. We’re not slowing down.

First, I’d like to dedicate this issue to my family and the Almighty Creator. Thank you for your continued support and sincere love. I am truly blessed to have so many supporting me as I work to continue my father’s legacy. I know my father is looking down at me with a smile and his hand raised high. “Right back at ya, Pops, thank you for everything!”

Now, let me introduce the powerhouse, art genius, who needs no introduction. Most of you already know her or have heard of her and her unique work as an artist and an art therapist. With a special appearance on the cover, plus stepping in as Art Director and Designer, I share with you the amazing Julie Howard!

I’m ecstatic and blessed to have the opportunity to collaborate with such a talented human being. Julie is a skilled artist who specializes in creating hyper-realistic master pieces. If you have had the pleasure of gazing upon her work at The Arbors or The Compound in Round Top, you know what I mean. Her art is unlike any other. And did I mention that she makes her own pastels? The smooth, silk-like hues produce a one-of-a-kind look that is unmatched anywhere.

A big shout-out and a grand thank you to my good friend for making this edition of Show Daily a special one and introducing the beginning of “The Next 25 Years!”

Dust, Discovery, and the Thrill of the Hunt at Little House Field

After 30 years, Little House on the Hill (now simply named Little House Field) is undergoing a heartfelt renewal to welcome a new generation of vintage lovers and design-minded pickers. The Show House after years of being shuttered, was painstakingly restored just in time for the Fall 2025 Show. The restoration is dedicated to continuing the legacy of Cal Schluter, a name synonymous with the early grit and passion of the Texas antique circle.

A Legacy of Commitment

After Cal passed away last summer, his son and daughter-in-law, Darren and Cindy Schluter, aim to keep that authentic flame alive and the field open. By sifting through years of collected treasures—rescuing everything from antique and vintage furniture, lighting, artwork, glassware, and kitchenware— the new stewards of the field are bridging the gap to today’s evolving vintage design scene.

What’s New - and What Enduresat Little House Field

•The Show House Reimagined: The historic showroom is once again open, offering a curated experience within the rustic charm of the Warrenton landscape.

•A Curated Field Experience: Beyond the house, the grounds feature 20 vendors specializing in antiques, plants,

leather goods, clothing and unique vintage finds. A second show house on the field features JillSuzanne’s architectural pieces and unique décor items. JillSuzanne also hosts a ‘Late Night Shopping Event’ with live music, food and drinks on the evening of March 28th .

•Convenience:

Located at 4403 S ST HWY 237, the field remains a favorite ‘park and stroll’ destination for seekers of rusty and chippy treasures that first made Round Top famous.

March 12–28, 2026 the team at Little House Field invites you to discover ‘collected, not copied’ finds –proof that Little House Field remains a testament to the enduring magic of Round Top.

Oftenused to introduce a remark with emotion, such as

“Gee, that's a great idea!”

In the world of antiques and art, the letter G encompasses a wide range that defines centuries of design.

From historical styles and movements to essential techniques to key antique objects, the letter G has been a canvas for exquisite craftsmanship and a gateway to some of the most unique forms and styles generating many comments that begin with G.

We begin with garniture, a number of collection of any matching, but usually not identical, objects collected with the intention to be displayed together. It’s commonplace to find garniture on a mantle, but many are often placed on various pieces of furniture and ledges or niches. An art collector could have a garniture.

For Round Top antique dealers with garniture matching definitive sets. Focus on dealers specializing in European antiques, fine arts and curated collections like UK Treasures and Old Town Market, or specific vendors within The Compound

These venues house diverse dealers offering high end decorative items, porcelain and period pieces perfect for finding garniture within sets of vases, candelabras and ornamental pieces at various price points. Often sourced from France, Italy and other European States you may also find that this includes items from Texas. So be ready... to say OMG!

One might discover a unique chair among the curated collections known as the Glastonbury chair. The chair is an iconic piece of medieval style furniture, historically significant for its association with Glastonbury Abbey and its distinctive, easily transportable design. Though its name is Victorian , the design originates from15th century Italy and was later introduced to England in the early 16th century.

“O My Goodness, that's a folding chair!”

During one of Round Top's Antique and Design shows, it is possible to find one of these chairs at venues such as The Compound. A great place to begin your search for one of these unique finds.

For more of that OMGness.

Glass Art covers everything from historical glassware to contemporary fused, blown or stained glass, often with a rustic or unique charm fitting the Round Top aesthetic. Round Top glass art often refers to antique and vintage glass, including cut to clear and art glass found at the famous Round Top Texas Antique Fairs, but also encompasses modern studio glass such as that of the Glass Anvil or decorative pieces by artists such as Michael Moore of Hallettsville.

Glass Art shifted away from mass production and more toward a personal voice where artists were no longer anonymous. They were bold creators with a lot to say and more diverse than ever. While some artists stick with traditional blowing techniques, others often use casting, fusing and slumping to create new effects. Digital tools and modern kilns allow artists to further push the boundaries. Themes in modern studio glass cover a wide range of subjects, but the heart of the studio glass movement remains within a deep connection between artist and material.

Whether you area longtime lover of Glass Art or seeing it up close for the first time. the Round Top Antique and Design Shows offer something magical at every turn from the world of Glass Art.

Glass Art truly is an OMG!

But we cannot overlook Gourd Art, an ancient tradition using dried hard shell gourds as a canvas for decoration. Gourd Art has roots in early human history and have been used in various cultures for storytelling and spiritual expression all over the world, from ancient China and Peru to Native American tribes, they feature carving, painting, and burning to depict myths, daily life and family histories.

RUSTIC BARN RETREATS

A colaborative dream of Greg and AJ Krause.

While driving to a conference, AJ Krause was surprised by the small town comunity of Round Top, Texas. From the moment she arrived in Round Top, she was certain this special place would become somewhere meaningful for her future family.

When she met Greg, they soon realized they share a mutual admiration for history and its preservation through architecture. Together they decided to take an enormous leap of faith and purchased a barn from the 1870’s that was dismantled and shipped to their land in Round Top. Being reassembled, this 1870’s barn became what is now a spacious and elegant venue for

retreats, weddings, family reunions, and artistic workshops and educational gatherings.

Since Rustic Barn Retreats quickly evolved into a popular venue for weddings and retreats with continuous bookings, Greg and AJ began their plans to include a chapel, reception hall and outdoor play space.

Greg and AJ are committed to continuing their dream to create what they believe should be a complete experience for guests, no matter what type of event.

Sharing this incredible piece of Round Top and their historic barn

venue is something they take great pride in. They are honored to be included in the Round Top community.

It would be important to note an exciting event for Spring 2027. “Wildflowers and Barbed WireAn Immersive Initiation for Texans,” is a women’s retreat scheduled for March 17-21.

R

ecently, Show Daily Magazine interviewed Brooke and Paul Michie, co-founders of Round Top Brewing & Kitchen. Paul is the Executive Chef and Brewer. Acting in tandem, their “all hands on deck” approach creates a team that covers the front of the house to the back of the house and making everything from scratch. What isn’t made from scratch is purchased from smaller purveyors locally in support of other small businesses emphasizing community, connection and quality. The original plan was to have a small-scale farmstead. When the opportunity to be in downtown Round Top was presented, Brooke and Paul decided to

“Give it a try.”

The structure that houses the business was moved from about a mile away and completely renovated. The business has grown and expanded a bit. The significance of having something that was here before and that will be here after is really special to the Michies. It is an establishment housed in a structure that has its own story.

“That seems to be a theme for us. Going back to the community, connection, and quality, that is how everything seems to work with us with our families joining us. The quality of life is better; our connections are stronger.

community along with us. So, we wanted to make sure that because we love it here, we wanted get to know people and try to understand in order to better serve them.”

Since Paul’s family is from Missouri, owning one of the smokers from a legendary Missouri smoker company became a goal. Investing in a beautiful smoker from his hometown, near Cape Girardeau Missouri, Round Top Brewing’s kitchen was ready to tantalize the pallet.

Your pallet for craft beer is a challenge they chose to accept to go with the delicious menu items. Round Top Brewing & Kitchen takes great pride in what they refer to as “their little system.” It consists of a US made still and crafter that was recommended by every top brewer the Michies respect in the industry. For bigger beer

production they are going to purchase a larger vessel, allowing them to do distribution on a small scale.

Another big plan the Michies being featured this year connecting the two spaces and move the kitchen operation from an early 1900s attic space to the bottom floor of what used to be Lolitop and gaining storage for package goods like their ever-popular pickles.

Round Top Brewing & Kitchen craft American style and a German style light lager. The American style light called “All In” is symbolic of the way they have worked this year. A second German style light named after highway 237 called “Helles.”

And although Brooke and Paul did not set out to be a burger joint, their burger is the number one seller followed by the pulled pork sandwich. A sandwich made with pork smoked in-house. The meats are prepared with the house rub and Peachy King barbecue sauce made with… yep that’s right, smoked peaches.

Happy Hour, Thursdays and Friday’s from 4 to close with Kitchen closing at 8. Open Sundays from 11:30 to 7, kitchen close at 6. During the antique show, Round Top Brewing Company & Kitchen adds a few days. But make note,

Modern Gourd artist have expanded techniques to not only preserve the cultural nature of the art style, but also to stretch the imagination. Like many gourd artist, Roy and Blanche Cabretta set out on a journey to become master gourd artist. The results brought them countless awards and collectors from all of the world. Their creations are exclusive to The Compound.

Gouache (pronounced ‘gwash”) is a water based paint known as opaque watercolor, made with pigment, water, and a binder such as gum arabic. Then an inert white pigment like chalk is added for its signature opacity. The key is its rich color that dries to a matte, flat finish. It behaves like watercolor but offers a covering power and layering ability that allows artists to paint light over dark and achieve bold, solid colors.

It is quite popular with many Texas artists.Standing out in the Texas art scene is Allison Hall, known for her joyful illustrations featured in shows like those in Round Top. Mary Baxter, Margie Crisp and the Dencio Duran blend traditional Texas scenes with modern styles found in Austin, Houston, Marfa and yes... even Round Top.

Roundtop features many artists during the shows, with popular styles of vibrant abstracts, traditional landscape, hyperrealistic storybook images, and unique Texas themes. Notable galleries like the Halles showcase artists like Steve Rubel, Kiki Slaughter and Raven Rockson. At the same time, local spots such as Laura Rath Fine Art with artists like Laura Goodson Andrea Mathis, and Cheryl Long.

J.Howard shares a love for handmade organic pastels to create vivid stories on canvas in hyperrealism.

Although Roundtop has always been known for antiques, it has become a true host to fine art. So bring your OMGness and...

We'll see you at the show!

COVER ARTIST - JHoward

“The Visual Storyteller”

JHoward will prove to become one of America’s most collected artists. Her distinct details of line and color through artist illustration is loved by art collectors around the world.

Through sheer force of talent and dedication, she is achieving status in the art world what few contemporary artists even dream of. Crowded with intricate visual detail; haunted by presences seen and unseen; her drawings captivate the viewer on many levels. But, more important - particularly to her story – is her readiness to give God all the glory for her talents. JHoward insists that the inspiration for each piece could only come from Him. And now, whe is bringing to Show Daily Magazine.

“Drawing becomes a process of articulating an inspiration. Drawing can only be described as the most unrestrained of all medium and the most direct way of becoming a completly illustrated passion. As an artist I can enjoy the sheer spontaneity as pastel is applied to a piece of canvas capturing my thoughts and recording the slightest movement of my hand with rhythmic detail and personality. To witness the transformative effect that art can have, especially when art has been used as a platform for expression, goes beyond communicating visually. Expression of something essential, something someone wishes to c ommunicate about themselves through environmental order and chaos can be loud. Much of what I have to say is in my images, for they illustrate daily experiences recorded in my journal. I want to give my art a voice and a very loud one at that. My art speaks volumes in who and what I am.”

Also known as Dr. Howard, she honors individuals’ values and beliefs in all her therapeutic programs and activities. Her goal in mental health is to work with people who are challenged with medical and mental health problems, striving to facilitate proper therapeutic practices for individuals seeking emotional, creative, and spiritual growth. Through integrative methods in her expressive arts techniques, she has developed ways to engage the mind, body, and spirit communication without verbal articulation alone. Kinesthetic, sensory, perceptual, and symbolic opportunities invite alternative modes of receptive and expressive communication, which can circumvent the limitations of language.

Dr. Howard believes that visual and symbolic expression through art gives voice to experience and empowers individual, communal, and societal transformation. Children and adults on the autistic spectrum, including those diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder or post-traumatic stress disorder, often find art a viable way to communicate. This communication is extremely valuable when it speaks to the self. These individuals are known to be easily distracted and gain the ability to focus through the use of expressive art. Show Daily is proud to have her communicate your message to others.

What Makes Your Favorite Shop...

At Bloom & Co. there is an atmosphere that makes you want to spend time looking. I always get excited as I notice so many goodies! Looking around there is a fun mixture of sensory beauty with ideas popping into your head about the “perfect gift.” And once you take in the smells, the selection of handmade pillows, candles, linen fashions and combinations of specially curated antique furniture can easily fit into your idea of perfection.

Obviously the storefront draws you in like the calm comfort of a friendly smile.

The casual check-in from associate behind the counter? No sales pitch, just an offer of assistance if needed. A welcoming atmosphere that makes the experience enjoyable, an adventure of the senses..

I have always found Round Top to be a little intimidating with its overstimulating number of things to look at and buy. What would make the experience more special in this Cowgirl playground than experiencing an adventure, rather than just a place to buy things. There is a sensory overload in the colors of the 15-foot fresh flower bar supplied by local farmers weekly. The aroma is wonderfully soothing mixed with that of the hand poured candles. Containers of fresh flowers are there to make your own bouquets. DIY floral arrangement classes have become a fun destination for ladies looking for a creative project to work on together.

Sue works behind the counter many days and assists Jen Zerrer, owner, during special flower

arranging events. Sue's ready smile and openhearted attitude is a blessing when you arrive. Funny, engaging and totally helpful. She is another pro who the owner relies on to "bloom" many of her ideas.

Jen Zerrer has been perfecting her selection for many years. Bloom & Co. originally opened on the square in Fayetteville before moving to its current address this winter.

In the hub of the Round Top Antique Show that folks fly in from all over the world to attend and need a place to spend the night. So, we operate two historic 1895 farmhouse AIRBNB rentals

ROUND TOP FINE ART FESTIVALS

Art festivals celebrate cultural awareness through creative perspectives. A well-developed art festival fosters unity among artists, art lovers, collectors, and communities. An art festival can uniquely provide opportunities for individuals of varied backgrounds, talents, and creative viewpoints to come together, share, and engage. It says,

“Hello! Welcome!”
to all the senses and every emotion.

This year, The Compound Round Top is partnering with A Meeting of Styles, Inc. on a mission to provide regional, cultural, and educational enrichment that encourages, supports, and promotes visual arts and fine crafts with the inclusion of all artists and artisans from every group and demographic.

The Compound Round Top welcomes everyone with a venue owner and festival director who both genuinely believe inclusion should always be present.

Mark Massey, former mayor of Round Top, Texas, strives to

“Keep

Round Top, Round Top.”

While preserving the character and charm of the town, Mark Massey works to manage growth with a goal of creating a center for creatives to gather and share. The Compound is just that sort of place to bring folks together.

The goal of the festivals beginning in 2026 is to highlight a richness of artistic expression fostering an appreciation for all mediums, styles, personalities, and abilities. The purpose is to ignite conversations that bridge the gap between young and old through an exchange of knowledge, perspectives, and experiences. These conversations will spark a unique connection between society and creatives who have felt excluded because they experience life with special needs intertwined with special talents.

Until now there has never been a dialogue with artists who the world

sees as “disabled.” And yet we have celebrated artists with disabilities, but only when someone, at some point, has taken a moment to share their life and talent with the world. Artists like Claude Monet who continued painting after becoming blind. Frida Kahlo who suffered from polio; Henri Matisse who painted from a wheelchair; Vincent Van Gogh who suffered from severe mental illness; Stephen Wiltshire, a non-verbal autistic artist who thrives; Chuck Close who was a quadriplegic. Each of these artiststransformed mental, emotional, and physical challenges into powerful expressions in varied art forms.

“Welcome,

Artists with disabilities that never allowed their creative talent to become disabled. On the contrary, it flourished.

fafofthecompound.weebly.com

The Fine Art Festivals of The Compound Round Top will be a platform for special talents such as these, allowing their continued creativity to flourish. Spring and Fall each year, artists of all styles and abilities will be empowered and encouraged to share their work on a 57-acre event destination just two miles south of Round Top’s historic town square over a three-day period, Friday to Sunday in May and November.

Where I Like to Eat & Hang Out During the Show

Restaurants get VERY busy during the show, and some require reservations weeks or months in advance. As someone who doesn’t like to wait, I highly recommend looking at my list and calling the restaurants for reservation information, so you are ahead of the game.

Many show venues will have “pop up” restaurants or food trucks, so I have shared with you my favorites. There are also many spots in Round Top where you can grab a cocktail or wine to just take time and socialize. And for an FYI... there are special hosted dinners and events you can choose to participate in and enjoy something a little more private.

HIGH COUNTRY VENUE

-A vision in the process

It began when Lee Sherman was driving his wife, Debra, to the Big Red Barn to start her day as a vendor. A “FOR SALE” sign had just been placed on a piece of property on Spur 458 in Carmine, TX, about 3 minutes from the Big Red Barn. Locally known as the “Y”, the property immediately brought a “vision” to Debra. Lee and Debra became owners of the property and Debra knew immediately what could and would happen. A new 6400 square foot building was constructed with the antiques showroom in front with a home attached in the back.

The shop in this building houses Dancing Wolf Gallery a long time seller at both Marburger Farms and the Big Red Barn. Dancing Wolf Gallery opened for the 2024 Fall Show and the vision continues. Along with a passion for offering the best vintage Native American jewelry available, Debra continues to source great paintings, furniture and historic pieces of cowboy and Indian art.

After the 2024 Fall Show, cottages were brought and placed on the

land behind the house. Two 12’ x 20’ cottages first and then a 12’ x 30’ cottage. All amenities were added making them ready to rent.

“I wanted my vendors to be comfortable because of my experience as a vendor renter

for many years.”

Cottage A currently cowboy and Indian art, vintage western clothing, western Americana books, and unusual cowboy and Indian pieces.

Cottage B is rented by Mary Eikenhorst , UK Treasures, a longtime Round Top dealer with awesome English white Ironstone, furniture and miscellaneous; and Cottage C is the home of artist Jenny Good who uses the cottage as both a studio and a gallery for her watercolors and collages.

The old metal “workshop” has been renovated and rented to Danny Tytenicz of The Shed at the Spur, specializing in world class art of all mediums. Here a buyer can also find rare and unusual furniture, oriental art, bronzes, yard and garden art.

The next phase was a complete redo on the old house. With a “gallery” open concept showroom, this building was rented immediately by two women from Colorado, Cowgirl Class owned by Barbara Garrison, and Vintage Viking Treasures owned by Becky Tamlyn. These gals specialize in what may be the best vintage and mid-mod glass in the area.

For the 2026 Spring Show, High Country Venue will feature Honest to Goodness Growers with flowers, plants and trees l in the old barn behind the Gallery House. Displays of vintage planters, pots and the unusual with imagination and style.

The “vision” continues with more Cottages to be added to bring a small village atmosphere and the possibility of a “small home” added in the far pasture. But for sure, this is a location you do not want to miss. We are open year round on Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10-5, and located at 1720 Spur 458, Carmine, TX.

New Roots and Branches in Downtown Fayetteville

One of my favorite stores on Fayetteville’s Historic Town Square has been Vintage Rose Market. Recently, one of the vendors sharing space in the shop has become the new owner. Tina Schobel has been selling her special finds for a couple of years, dreaming about being more than just a vendor. When the opportunity presented itself, Tina jumped on it. God’s timing is ALWAYS best! The combined tastes and goods offered in this little treasure of a store make for a fun adventure for us who love to stop in, shop, and discover.

Anold-fashioned gathering place where coffee groups meet for yummy homemade breakfast treats has become a highlight for those who frequent the shop.

On December 1, 2025, Roots and Branches was born.

“I thought long and hard about a name. I really love the connection to ancestors through antiques and old items –hence the strong roots. The branches represent the new life given to these pieces, as well as the new items that we have available in the shop.”

There is a special lady who has been front of house managing the store and hosting coffee groups for interested locals over the last several years. Samantha Ahrens has an uncanny ability to remember where anything you are looking for is located in the building. As one who has annoyingly specific requests, I have always been directed right to the best vendor’s space for my needs. Personally, I would say that Samantha’s knack for understanding her customers and the way the shop best presents itself along with Tina’s leadership will be a perfect combination.

Tina envisions offering a unique variety of old and new. She has wonderful vendors in the shop that help do just that; for people to come to the shop that are just needing a quick gift, as well as those that want to linger and look in every nook and cranny for the “thing” they didn’t know they were looking for. Just as a side note, Tina is selling her version of Texas Trash that is going to be known as Roots Rubbish.

Along with Fayetteville growing and evolving, the same is happening with Roots and Branches, a treasure of a place to visit, so don’t miss Roots and Branches on the Square when you to come to explore.

You won't be disappointed...

The heart & soul of any community

is its people.

People in Flatonia are friendly and inviting. The Flatonia spirit of the community can be felt on every street corner. Newcomers to Flatonia discover that they can blend their own traditions and cultures with the area’s Southern hospitality and history. So you can easily say that Flatonia is a community rich in history, cultural diversity, and opportunity.

One of the true pleasures of Flatonia is downtown where you can enjoy a stroll down Main Street within the 36 acres of the Flatonia Historic District listed in the National Register of Historic Places. That's right, the City of Flatonia has a historic district

FLATONIA, TEXAS

Czech It Out

listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The district encompasses 36 acres of the old downtown of Flatonia centered around the Union Pacific Railroad tracks with both North and South Main Streets running east/west, and bounded on the west by South Faires Street and on the east by Middle Street.

Flatonia has numerous attractions for citizens and tourists to visit. For golf enthusiasts, there is a superb, well-maintained 9-hole golf course where greens fees are low. The painted churches in the area are truly remarkable and something everyone should experience.

People love to visit the railroad park in Flatonia, with one of the very few remaining rail switching towers remaining. Flatonia is one of the few cities in the U.S. to have a train with North-South and East-West routes. Anyone can browse antique shops, take in the beautiful architecture, or watch passing railcars bound for unknown destinations.
