"Redefining the strokes that tell your story, one page at a time."
by Roberto Alvarado
Every publication leaves its mark, but ink is more than words on paper — it’s memory, identity, and voice. For decades, Show Daily has carried the stories of Round Top and its surrounding treasures. Yet as with all lasting traditions, there comes a time when the ink must be refreshed, reinvented, and set in motion for a new era. This issue is not only a continuation of what has been, but a reimagining of what can be bold enough to honor our past while daring enough to write our future.
Today’s show is a different ball game. We’ve all felt the heat of pressure—and I’m no different. This year has been filled with change and challenge for all of us, including Show Daily. After losing its founder, Roberto, back in February—just before Showtime—our future felt uncertain. But failure is not an option; the show must go on. Learning through experience is the best way to work out the kinks, and I am living proof of that. You learn quickly—or it’s over. It’ll either make you or break you. Here and now, it’s all about reinventing the ink. It's time to find out if you are where you belong. The stage is set, and it’s your turn to perform. Do you have what it takes? I know I do, and I will.

We’re in a new chapter of growth, and I want to thank all our advertisers and friends for their continuous support through the years. Without you, this would not be possible. Let’s keep it going strong into the 2026 season and beyond! This special edition of Show Daily continues our 25th anniversary celebration and closes out the year with a bang. We bring you an event for the ages—record-breaking crowds and personal bests at The Arbors, which has expanded its property and enriched its vibe with even more fashion and art. Don’t miss the largest art event to date, with live music, culinary delights, and tents filled with art, antiques, fashion, and jewelry. See the lineup on page 50.
Further north, McLaren’s Antiques & Interiors is serving up more than its renowned mix of antique, industrial, and architectural treasures handpicked from around the world. This fall, guests can also enjoy a taste of Texas with Murphy’s Steakhouse on-site, serving their legendary steaks, chicken, and shrimp daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., October 13–19. A special shout-out to Georgianna Fox, owner of Murphy’s, for making this possible—and for being such a loyal Show Daily advertiser for so many years.
So, like always, don’t forget to mention us when you stop by to see our advertisers.
You saw them first in Show Daily. Happy shopping!

The Tin Star Outdoor Café caters to early risers and offers a multitude of vintage finds.
“At The Tin Star Field and Outdoor Café, we are the first to open and the last to close, so we’re pretty well known,” stated co-owner Mitzi North.
Mitzi and James North have owned the three-acre field for over 30 years. When they started, there wasn’t anything located past their property on Hwy 237, between Bar W and Renck Field.
James started renting out spaces around the café where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served. It’s an early start. A full breakfast kicks off at 7:00 a.m. The café is well known for its chicken sandwich, grilled and served on a sweet sourdough bun from a Houston
bakery. Their burgers have a devoted following—the café seats about 80 people.
Vendors set up in three large circus tents, and smaller tents line the perimeter. Mitzi’s stepson sells sports cards and vintage comics, while other vendors showcase Mid-Century Modern décor and furniture, vintage and cowboy clothing, vintage advertising, and Persian rugs. Primitive and western collectibles round out the mix. Visitors often linger long after their meal, swapping stories under the tents and discovering unexpected treasures. Over the years, the Tin Star has become a gathering place where locals and out-of-towners alike feel part of the Round Top tradition. It’s the kind of spot where every season brings new finds, familiar faces, and lasting memories. and while other venMid-Century décor and furniture, vintage and

he saddle and matching chaps gracing our front cover are the work of legendary saddle maker and silversmith Edward H. Bohlin (1895–1980), whose craftsmanship defined the golden age of the American West in Hollywood. Completed in 1947, this black leather and sterling silver saddle — paired with sterling-studded chaps — was originally commissioned as a gift from Amon G. Carter to his close friend and fellow art collector, Sid Richardson, during the Fort Worth Stock Show.
Bohlin, a Swedish immigrant turned master of Western design, built his reputation outfitting Buffalo Bill Cody’s Wild West shows before establishing himself in Hollywood. From there, his exacting artistry became the standard for saddles, tack, and western gear used by every major movie studio and many of the era’s biggest stars.
A true marriage of utility and art, this saddle embodies Western heritage, Hollywood glamour, and timeless craftsmanship — a fitting tribute for our 25th anniversary issue.

At just 17, Charles Keyton—now owner and operator of About Face Estate Sales—was already captivated by antiques. He began his journey collecting and selling statement pieces at Bussey’s Flea Market near San Antonio. What started as a teenage passion has grown into a thriving career spanning more than 45 years.
Today, Keyton operates four About Face Estate Sales locations, including Comfort Antique Mall in Comfort, Texas, an antique mall in New Braunfels, Armadillo Antiques N More in San Antonio, and their largest location—Sommerfeld Place in Warrenton.
Keyton’s first shows in Round Top during Antiques Week took place under tents at Warrenton’s Renck Field. But with a collection that included crystal chandeliers, vintage hats, and Victorian linens, he quickly outgrew the tents and secured a permanent space at Sommerfeld Place—located across from the Lone Star Glamp Inn off FM 237.
Shoppers know to come early: during Antiques Week, About Face offers 25% off during the first three days, followed by 20% off for the rest of the show. The most eager customers even line up to help unpack nearly 650 crates straight off the trucks, rewarded with an immediate 20% discount on their finds.
Keyton has an uncanny eye for shifting trends.
“Onderdonk’s bluebonnets, McCoy and Roseville pottery, and pink depression glass are really hot right now,” he explained. “Millennials can’t get enough of chrome and glass tables, Lucite lamps, brass animals, and vinyl—they actually want to invest. Right now, I recommend art, gold jewelry, and high-dollar paintings. Art is one of the best investments.”
He doesn’t mince words on fading trends: “Clear glass? Throw it in the air and shoot it. Grandma’s rugs aren’t what they used to be, and unless furniture is Mid-Century Modern or primitive, it’s not going to move.”
Estate sales are booming in popularity. “Customers are going to pay about one-half to one-third of what they would at an antique sale,” said Keyton. “But anything worth collecting goes very quickly.”
About Face Estate Sales is more than a retail experience—it’s a full-service liquidation service. Keyton and his crew handle everything from promotion (through emails and social media) to accounting, with proceeds settled within 7–10 days. They work on commission only, requiring no upfront payment.
The company also partners with a wide network of appraisal experts. High-value items are often sold via silent auction bid sheets, where buyers jot down their offers and the highest bidder is discreetly notified. All bidder information remains confidential.
For shoppers and collectors alike, About Face Estate Sales offers both opportunity and expertise. Whether you’re after a whimsical vintage lamp or a serious art investment, odds are Keyton knows exactly where to find it. Call or text Charles if you’re searching for that next treasured piece—your hidden gem may be closer than you think.

oin in a late-night costume party and shop medical collectibles and Austin merch at the Chicken Ranch Warrenton.
Here, shoppers can explore a wide assortment of merchandise ranging from rare medical and dental collections to goods infused with a distinctive Austin vibe.
“This place was meant for me,” said Louisiana native and owner Andrea Canova. “I spent my life’s savings to buy the house here in 2013, where I offer everything from medical books and instruments to a taxidermy bat and even false teeth.”
Canova also highlights neighboring vendors who bring their own flair to the field. “At Farmhouse Blanche, the interior design vignettes change daily,” she explained. “Robbins Revival showcases curated antique treasures, while K-N-B Antiques carries an impressive selection of furniture. Demitra has an incredibly unique sense of style, and Heather brings an eclectic Austin touch to Avid Emporium.”
Adding to the fun is the “Roper Romp,” a spirited late-night shopping event scheduled for Monday, October 6, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Guests dress as the iconic Mrs. Roper from Three’s Company, and a $100 prize is awarded to the best costume. The lively atmosphere blends shopping with celebration, making the Chicken Ranch not just a destination, but an expe-
rience. With its mix of quirky collectibles, creative vendors, and festive spirit, the Chicken Ranch has secured its place as one of Warrenton’s most memorable stops.

A wine is best served with family and friends...
very family has a story, and for Patrick and Sherrie Cooke, that story has blossomed into Busted Oak Cellars—a winery and gathering place that has quickly become a Round Top treasure.
Married in 1986, the Cookes spent decades abroad while Patrick’s oil and gas career took them to Egypt, Scotland, and Israel, where they raised their three children. Along the way, they collected friendships from around the world, but their hearts remained Texan. As they like to say, “You can take the boy out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the boy.”
In 2003, they purchased property near Carmine, where Patrick began clearing land with the help of family and neighbors. Combining his passion for building and horticulture with Sherrie’s creativity and hospitality, the couple dreamed of one day opening a winery. With soil and climate similar to those of the vineyards they had admired abroad, their land offered promise—and in February 2020, that dream became a reality with the grand opening of Busted Oak Cellars.
Since then, the winery has expanded dramatically in scope and recognition, now boasting a tasting room, event center, wedding venue, and live entertainment. Their son, Kevin, manages operations, leveraging his finance background to ensure smooth service and an inviting wine list.
The Cookes’ Texas A&M roots—Patrick in chemical engineering, Sherrie in business management—helped shape their approach to building a sustainable, family-driven business. What they value most, however, is sharing stories and memories over a glass of wine with their guests, just as they did with friends abroad.
Busted Oak Cellars produces wine from both their vineyard and Texas High Plains grapes. With more than 30 varieties to choose from, guests can en-
joy tastings, glasses, or bottles. Their signature Bits & Bites experience offers a curated pairing of six wines with food samples.
The Wine Club lets members choose red, white, or specialty shipments (3, 6, or 12 bottles per order), with perks like 15% discounts, complimentary tastings, and exclusive offers.
Dining enhances the experience, whether inside or outdoors under the Texas sky. Guests enjoy cheese and charcuterie boards, hearty appetizers, and desserts like Caitlin Gajewski’s homemade cheesecakes and chocolate pies. Creative touches include Port Floats, Coke Floats, and the Thursday Taco Bar (3 tacos for $7). Firepits, party lights, and sunsets complete the setting.
Entertainment at Its Best
Busted Oak isn’t just about food and drink— it is the evening’s entertainment. Live music fills the venue with Texas country, jazz, blues, and rock. Singer-songwriters and musicians who’ve opened for major acts often grace the stage. Sherrie’s flair for atmosphere brings added fun with trivia nights, bingo, and themed events, creating a place where every visit feels special.
Two seasonal highlights draw crowds each year: the Fall Market (Nov. 2, 9 a.m.–9 p.m.) and Christmas Market (Nov. 30, 11 a.m.–7 p.m.), featuring artisans, vendors, seasonal goods, family activities, and live entertainment.
The Events Center, at 4,600 square feet, hosts 80–120 guests for weddings, receptions, retreats, and corporate gatherings. Wedding packages—Blushing Bride, Ricochet Rosé, Sweet Muscat, and Vintage Lace—include planning services and use of the Main Cabin. Guests can also book activities like kayaking, fishing, skeet shooting, and team-building experiences, with food and wine packages tailored to each group.
For overnight guests, the Cookes have added Merlot Manor and Hunter’s Hideaway Cabins These cozy, family-friendly cabins feature kitchens, Murphy beds, porches, and room for six. With lakeside walks, birdwatching, and quiet sunsets, they extend the winery’s sense of hospitality into a true getaway.
For Patrick and Sherrie, Busted Oak Cellars begins and ends with family. It’s a place where strangers become friends and where moments turn into cherished memories. As they look back on five years of growth, they extend gratitude to their patrons for making it all possible. As the Cookes like to say: “A wine is best served with family and friends.”

For 27 years, The Arbors has been a beloved fixture of the Round Top Antique Show—12 acres of crisp white tents filled with art, antiques, fashion, and one-of-a-kind finds. Devoted treasure hunters wander from architectural salvage to statement clothing and furnishings, discovering a can’t-miss adventure at every turn.
“We’ve expanded to over 150 dealers,” says founder and owner Curtis Ann Davis. “Our vendors offer an extraordinary selection of home décor and apparel—including custom, handcrafted pieces— from pottery to perfume. I have dealers from across the U.S., Paraguay, Uruguay, Mexico, and France.”

Many have been with The Arbors for more than two decades. “They’re like family,” Davis adds. “I work with every one of them personally.” Highlights include the Wilder brothers of Georgia, known for furniture built from solid kiln-dried hardwoods, and Le Chateau European Interiors, a longtime sponsor of the Taste of Texas event. You’ll also find custom stone furniture by Piedra Made; designs by Debbie Clemens and Bailee McCall; and French Renewed by Murielle Abeger, who once sold an architectural masterpiece right here.
Between finds, shoppers can kick back with live music, “roving” happy hours, and special events all week long.

Long, American artist and creative force behind Pure West/Pure Vintage, has come full circle to her first love—painting. This fall, she will showcase her fine art alongside contemporary Texas painter Andrea Mathis with the debut of Round Top Fine Art at Town Hall Square—the only curated fine art show during the biannual Antique & Design Shows in Round Top.
A native Texan, Cheryl earned her BFA from the University of Texas and gained early recognition in 1984 when Austin’s Laguna Gloria Museum invited her to the Texas Only show. In the mid-80s she shifted into photography, documenting historic ranches for Western Horseman Magazine. Her “Real Workin’ Cowboys” photo series—enhanced with a single splash of color—led to exhibitions in Houston, Santa Fe, and Taos.
By 1989, she had won Best of Show at the Durango Photographic Salon and launched Pure West by Cheryl Long, a wearable art company inspired by her ranch photographs. Her cowboy and cowgirl designs took off in sync with the “Urban Cowboy” era, appearing in boutiques worldwide and even on QVC. Today, her popular Pure West tees are carried by Cavender’s and feature designs such as Brandin’, All American Cowgirl, and Wranglin’. To celebrate 35 years, she has reintroduced her limited-edition Cowboy Christmas series, available at Round Top Fine Art and The Arbors this fall.
Cheryl’s creativity has never been limited to one medium. She pioneered the reversible photo-pendant in 1996, built a couture line from antique fabrics and vintage leathers, and developed home décor and jewelry incorporating antique silver and turquoise. Her designs have appeared in Neiman Marcus, Gorsuch, national park gift shops, and juried shows from Jackson Hole to Washington, D.C.—including seven years at U.S. Presidential Inaugurals.
Yet painting remains her passion. Today, Cheryl produces cloudscapes, Montana-inspired landscapes, abstracts layered with hidden symbols, and her Disappearing Landscapes series—impressionist works capturing vanishing open spaces of the American West. Her art hangs in corporate, celebrity, and museum collections worldwide, including the Harry Ransom archives in Austin.
This fall, she brings both her fine art and her signature Pure West designs—limited-edition tees, jewelry, vintage textiles, and accessories—to Round Top Fine Art and The Arbors (Tent E).
Mathis: Abstract Expressions of Texas
, a contemporary Texas painter, joins Cheryl in this new Round Top venture. Her diverse body of work captures the emotion and power of the natural world through abstraction, layering bold brushstrokes, color, and texture. Inspired by European travel and Southwestern road trips, her art reflects influences of modern masters and impressionists.
Working from her ranch studio in La Grange along the Colorado River, Andrea paints plein air, often surrounded by her animals. Her use of horsehair brushes and heavy oils produces richly textured surfaces that evoke both energy and serenity.
Andrea has received multiple awards, including First Place at the 2021 Chappell Hill Art Walk and Merit Award for The Event at the International Burridge Table Settings Juried Competition. That same year, her painting The Electric Horse was chosen as the featured poster and billboard art for Arts for Rural Texas’ ArtWalk.
Born into an artistic family, Andrea was encouraged early by her father, Robert Ezell—an accomplished artist and teacher with an MFA from North Texas State University. She studied art at Stephen F. Austin State University and has since built a
full career in the arts. Andrea has also served on the board of Arts for Rural Texas, promoting art education in Central Texas schools.
Her painterly works, rooted in architecture, wildlife, and landscape, carry both personal resonance and universal appeal. Andrea believes strongly that “STEM needs ART to help children learn to think creatively and reach new horizons.”
Friends for years through the Texas art circuit, Cheryl Long and Andrea Mathis now bring their shared vision to life with Round Top Fine Art. Located on the Town Hall Square, the show offers an elevated fine art experience during the legendary Antique and Design Shows.
Visitors can expect a thoughtfully curated selection of western-inspired fine art, contemporary abstractions, and collectible design pieces—making Round Top Fine Art the new must-see destination for art lovers this fall.

La Grange, a Fayette County town tucked between Austin and Houston, is one of several rural communities that take part in the Round Top/Warrenton Antique Show scene. Resting along the Colorado River and surrounded by scenic rolling hills, it’s a welcoming stop where deep history meets a steadily growing mix of shops and local businesses.
The town’s name comes from General Lafayette’s French estate — La Grange, meaning “the Meadows.” That European influence is only part of its heritage. By the mid-1800s, waves of German and Czech immigrants began shaping the culture of Fayette County, bringing traditions that remain strong today. Texas is now home to more Czech Americans than any other state, and many descendants of those early families still live in the region. Their impact is celebrated at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center, where language, music, and traditions are kept alive. La Grange’s historic square reflects this blend of heritage and growth. At its center stands the Fayette County Courthouse, completed in 1891. Its Romanesque Revival design anchors the town and provides a dramatic backdrop for the businesses that surround it. The courthouse square has long been the community’s hub, and today it is lined with boutiques, antique stores, and
specialty shops that bring new energy to a historic setting.
Among the newer businesses is Soulstruck, opened in 2024 by Lisa Babcock and her daughter, Chloe. Located in the historic Hermes building, constructed in 1907, the shop retains much of its original
pharmacy cabinetry, which adds character to the curated collection of clothing, jewelry, gifts, and home décor. Soulstruck has quickly become a welcoming stop for both locals and visitors.
Antique seekers will gravitate to Antiques on the Courthouse Square, a trio of shops that includes Judy’s Attic, Kat’s Antiques, and Potluck Trading. Judy’s Attic is admired for its organized layout and wide variety of Texas memorabilia, quilts, art, and jewelry. Kat’s Antiques, under new ownership, blends vintage and contemporary finds, while Potluck Trading is recognized for its playful window displays and eclectic offerings. Each store brings its own style, ensuring the antique tradition stays alive on the square.
The past is also preserved through local museums. The Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives maintain records of early settlers, while the Texas Quilt Museum — internationally recognized for its exhibitions — highlights a craft deeply tied to regional culture. These institutions, along with the cultural center, offer context for the buildings, traditions, and people that have shaped La Grange for nearly two centuries.
Food lovers will appreciate Le Petite Gourmet Shoppe, established in 2006. Owner Donella Dopslauf-Cernosek fills her 5,000-square-foot store with cookware, spices, teas, and gadgets, many sourced from international shows. The shop also offers cooking classes, sometimes led by guest chefs like London native Mike Morphew, who once cooked for the royal family at Buckingham Palace. The classes add a cul-
tural experience that connects food to heritage. When it’s time to unwind, Bodega Wine Market provides a casual place to enjoy a glass of wine, specialty beer, or artisan cheese board while overlooking the square. Practical businesses such as LG Print Company also round out the downtown experience, reminding visitors that this is not just a historic district but a working town that continues to evolve.
La Grange’s character lies in the balance between honoring its past and embracing the present. The courthouse, cultural centers, and museums keep its 19th-century roots alive, while the shops, restaurants, and new businesses add variety and vitality. For visitors, that combination makes La Grange more than just a stop — it’s truly “The Best Little Town in Texas.”

Every Tuesday during March and October, the Fayetteville town square comes alive with the sound of music. Local musicians perform on the courthouse lawn, playing to a dedicated audience gathered around the historic 1880s courthouse until dusk gently settles in. This year marks the third season of the Fayetteville Courthouse Music Series, created by Sandra Borne, executive director of Arts for Rural Texas (ARTS).
“One of the motivators for creating this music series is that by holding it during the Antique Show, we’re able to showcase everything the town of Fayetteville has to offer,” said Borne. “The weather is ideal during those months, and our residents get to enjoy some amazing musicians they might not have had the chance to hear.”
The series is designed to be simple, welcoming, and easy to enjoy. Guests are encouraged to bring
lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets, or call Orsak’s or Joe’s for dinner to go. Prohibition Liquor, located just on the edge of the square, is a convenient stop for wine, beer, or other refreshments. As twilight sets in and music lingers over the square, the Courthouse Music Series shines as a reminder of the arts’ ability to connect people and celebrate small-town culture.

Danny Tytenicz’s devoted following can now find Abbieland Antiques at a new location this fall—The Shed at the Spur at the Carmine Y. The new location promises a curated collection that blends fine European paintings with exquisite Asian treasures, alongside an eclectic mix of furniture and religious carvings.
|“My forte is rare artwork and unusual furniture for the home, lawn, and garden,” says Tytenicz. “You’ll also find French furniture, classic mirrors and advertising signage, primitives, and one of the largest collections of Cloisonné. Among his favorite pieces is a solid jade Buddha weighing an impressive 120 pounds, a pair of 19th-century Chinese Foo
Dogs, and an oil painting by American landscape artist Thomas Bigelow Craig. Craig’s work, Showery Day (18" by 26"), remains in its original frame—a testament to its authenticity and artistry. “I guarantee everything I sell in writing,” Tytenicz affirms, underscoring his commitment to offering genuine pieces. Showroom doors open Monday through Thursday after the show; appointments available.
—Abbieland Antiques names a heartfelt tribute to, in loving memory of Tytenicz’s daughter, Abigail “Abbie” Rose Tytenicz (11/17/99 –9/16/25). We honor her adventurous spirit, her love of music and nature, and her deep compassion for others.
Don't forget to mention to these fine dealers that you found them through Show Daily, the only publication dedicated to the who, what, where, and how of the Texas' Antique Week estravaganza!
