Military Coordinator’s Greeting
JEFFREY S. BUCHANAN LTG, US Army Commanding General, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army) It is an honor to represent, as the 2017 Fiesta Military Coordinator, the more than 140,000 active duty, defense civilians, and military family members who make San Antonio their home. The support we receive, and the large number of veterans who choose to live in San Antonio after their military careers, is a testament to the warmth and support provided by the city and its residence. The moniker Military City, U.S.A. is well-earned and well-deserved.

The men and women who wear our nation’s uniforms look forward to the annual Fiesta celebration, and perhaps no event more so than the Fiesta Flambeau Night Parade, “America’s Largest Illuminated Night Parade.” Our military is represented in the Flambeau Parade with the Fiesta Military Ambassadors, military musicians, the Fort Sam Houston Caisson Platoon, and other representatives from the services. And you can count on our military families lining the streets of San Antonio taking in the sights and sounds of Flambeau! On behalf of the military community, I wish everyone a safe and happy Fiesta and a great Flambeau Parade! City Lights and Celebrations. Viva Flambeau! Jeffrey S. Mayor’s Welcome
IVY R. TAYLOR Mayor City of San Antonio As the Mayor of the City of San Antonio and on behalf of my City Council colleagues, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2017 Fiesta Flambeau Parade! For 70 years the Flambeau parade has illuminated the night sky of San Antonio, and it has grown into the largest illuminated night parade in the world, attracting more than half a million spectators. This year’s theme, “City Lights and Celebrations,” will mes-
tend, individuals and families, the opportunity to view and participate in the American Indian Culture and traditions of dance and music at an official American Indian Pow Wow. When you attend Fiesta events, you are part of something very special that began in 1891. Then the Battle of Flowers Association organized a parade to remember both the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto, the decisive battle of the Texas Revolution. Since then, this celebration has grown to more than 110 non-profit events to celebrate San Antonio’s many cultures and raise funds to support great causes. Attending any of the official Fiesta events supports these organizations, promotes their mission for the San Antonio community. The Fiesta Flambeau Parade began in 1948 and is the largest illuminated parade held the last Saturday of Fiesta whose theme is “City Lights & Celebrations”. Thank you for joining this Party with a Purpose to celebrate traditions, remembering our past in our present environment, and helping us pass the Fiesta spirit to future generations! VIVA FIESTA! Erwin J. De Luna President Fiesta® San Antonio Commission merize crowds by highlighting illuminated festivals from across the nation. From colorful and quirky display of lights, food, drink, music and cheering masses, the Flambeau Parade creates a sensory explosion. But most importantly, as the lively parade proceeds through the streets of our great city, it reflects the values and goodness of San Antonio. It is an extraordinary tradition that tells the story of a community coming together to celebrate our civic pride and reminisce with friends and family, whether they are here temporarily or are lifelong residents. I want to thank the Fiesta Flambeau Parade Association and the thousands of volunteers who help to make the Fiesta Flambeau Parade America’s greatest night parade. Viva Fiesta! Ivy R. Taylor Mayor 3

GUILLERMO RODRIGUEZ Security Guard for Jimmy Kimmel Live Guillermo’s broken English (characterized most clearly with his constant pronunciation of the show’s host as “Yim-ee”) coupled with his affable likability and Teddy Bear-like quality have earned him as high a profile as any supporting personality on the show like Cher, Bono, and Godzilla.

During his tenure at Mac Arthur he was selected All State two times, and recognized as a high school All American. Subsequently, he was awarded a four year scholarship at Purdue, where he excelled as a 6-5 shooting guard. There, he helped the Boilermakers reach the Final Four in 1980. While attending Purdue, Keith was the recipient of many athletic and academic awards which include: Big Ten Scoring Champion - 1982; All Big Ten Club; Walk Award for Best Athlete at Purdue; MVP Purdue University; MVP Big Ten; Lambert Academic award for highest GPA of all athletes. 4
Guillermo is instantly recognizable by a single name. He is also the real-life Parking Lot Security Guard for Jimmy Kimmel Live, and frequently serves as its celebrity gossip correspondent in the popular segment “Guillermo’s Hollywood Round-Up.” A resident of California for more than ten years and a U.S. citizen since 2005 (Zacatecas, Mexico) Guillermo Rodriguez counts among his favorite things watching soccer on TV, Mexican food, Italian food, and his two Chihuahuas Pepe and Paco. Guillermo started working at JKL as a security guard when the show launched in 2003 and has been a show correspondent since then, making it nearly impossible for him to work security in the parking lot! Of the numerous celebrities he’s met personally, Guillermo says he’s been most excited to meet Jessica Alba and George Lopez
In 1982, he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in Communications. After his basketball career, Keith entered a new phase in his life when he entered the teaching profession. Now into his 27th year, Keith serves as the Athletic Director at a middle school in the San Antonio Independent School District. Keith’s unique abilities are not limited to the classroom. In 1995 Keith initiated the first summer basketball camp for local athletes for the past 22 years. In 2003 his dedicated efforts resulted in the establishment of the Full Court Press Foundation, a community based foundation focusing on underserved youths from first through eighth grade through sports and health related activities. The Full Court Press Foundation also provides two yearly scholarships for graduating high school seniors through the Joe D. Edmonson Sr. Scholarship Fund. His dedication to the youth of San Antonio is second to none. As a motivational speaker, he inspires youth and adults alike, by bringing the message of success and strength through citizenship and education. In 2016 he was a nominee for the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame. Keith belongs to the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the NBA Retired Players Association, and is a member of the Resurrection Baptist Church where he is a greeter and Sunday school teacher.
