See y’all at the movies! Flatonia’s Lyric Theater offers a nostalgic choice for moviegoers

T

he Lyric Theater was built in 1879, making it the oldest brick structure in downtown Flatonia. The Lyric started out life as The Happy Hour Theatre and featured indoor movies during the winter months and outdoor entertainment down the block to the east at what was known as The Aerodome. As times changed, so did the name, becoming The Lyric Theatre and being housed full-time at 120 East South Main Street. Charlie Kral pretty much was the projectionist until the Theater closed in 1967. There are many colorful stories of Charlie, just ask a local next time you’re in town. The Lyric hosted its grand re-opening in April 2017 and hosts movies on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as hosting special events as needed. The theater still retains a lot of its charm both inside and out. My Honey and I were on a weekend getaway and found stepping back in time and enjoyed everything. From the wonderful prices on tickets and concessions to being able to watch Looney Toons before the movie. We will be back
