Breaking It Down With Speed Williams Sheltering in place These are new and uncertain times not just for our country, but the whole world. I never thought I would see a time where all the churches and casinos were closed at the same time. Social distancing is understandable and done to slow the spread of the virus and to avoid overwhelming hospitals and medical staff. I have a great appreciation for those people who are working so hard and putting themselves at risk. This definitely seems like something you would see in the movies but never expect to happen in real life. Staying home and sheltering in place is totally foreign to most of us who are usually on the go. I can’t imagine what it would be like to be quarantined in a 1,000 square foot apartment in New York City. Most of us in the western lifestyle have animals to take care of and room to be outside. I feel blessed to live on a small ranch where we can still rope and have a never-ending list of chores. We finished our indoor about a week before the quarantine. We’ve been spending a lot of quality time together as a family. We play cards and rope in the evenings.

As a competitor from a very young age, one of the most troubling things for me is not knowing what the future holds. When you rodeo for a living, you know where you will be 30 to 45 days in advance and have a fairly tight schedule. When I was done rodeoing, I started teaching schools and private clinics and created my online training site at speedroping. com. So, having time off has never been much of an option. Trying to figure out what to do with that time has been a new thing for me. For 30 days prior to quarantine we had not had three or four days where I wasn’t teaching or we were hauling the kids. I had schools booked for two and a half weeks that had to be cancelled. Now we, like most people, can’t believe the world has stopped. Don’t get me wrong, we’re still busy. We get up in the mornings and the kids do their school work. Afterwards we do chores around the place and after dinner we saddle horses. We have lights in the arena and that’s what my son wants to do. The problem is, by the time we do our drills on the Speed Trainer, rope on the Hot Heels, work our horses, then rope two or three pens of steers, put the horses up,

go in and watch the video and get ready for bed, it’s two or three in the morning. Our schedule is much like it is in the summer. I feel very fortunate that both my kids love to rope and that our lifestyle requires us to be outside. But I am nervous about what the future for our industry and what the world looks like for the next six months to a year. I do have to tell a funny story on my boy. Both of my kids do their drills on the Speed Trainer before we rope. Because I had been busy teaching, I had not been watching them do them. So instead of Gabe roping it for 10 or 15 minutes, I told him we would do five in a row correctly in each of his disciplines, heading, heeling, and breakaway, so we could finish a little quicker. Just five in a row correctly. There are a lot of little steps in heeling that I make him do so when we get on our horses we’re doing things correctly. He needs to have weight in his stirrups, stay square in the saddle, place his rope on the ground, pause, make sure his left hand stays in proper position when he dallies. We were on the Speed Trainer for over an hour and a half before he got all three of his disciplines done correctly the first day. All it takes is doing one little step wrong and you have to start over. Since we’ve implemented the “five in a row” method the transformation in

the arena has been amazing. Being able to complete the procedures correctly without a bauble has really helped him progress in his riding and roping. If you are able to work at your roping right now, I encourage you to try this. I know kids like to make fast runs. But the goal should be five clean runs in a row with no mistakes. I hope everyone is staying safe and pray that we are able to return to some sort of normalcy sooner than later. The other day we implemented another drill that resulted in a contest between our kids. We had the kids each hook up a truck and trailer and they had to back about 200 feet across our old outdoor arena and get the trailer in between the poles we had set up. After they mastered that, I added a barrel for each to have to back around and then back between the poles. I can’t tell you how many times it’s necessary to back into tight spaces at rodeos. I’ve seen many rodeo cowboys and cowgirls that just never learned how. I want my kids to be comfortable behind the wheel and able to park in any situation. It was quite comical and great entertainment for Jennifer and I. Our family is very competitive as you might guess. I won’t spoil it and tell who won what, but you can watch the video at speedroping.com, for a chuckle.

R&M Rodeo Photos This quarantine has got to stop. I can live without rodeos, sitting down at a restaurant and drinking in bars but I’ll be danged if I can take another weekend with rain and Netflix. My wife has always had an obession with shows like 48 Hours and Dateline. Give her an unsolved murder in the middle of Kansas and she is glued to the tv all night. But let me want to sit down and watch Jack Ryan on Amazon and she just isn’t having any of it. I’ve never been one to watch tv just too much. If it’s raingin outside and nasty I have been known to sit around and watch some tv. Well, we’ve had three straight weekends of rain and nasty weather during this quarantine. The only thing that has saved me is the fact that we can go to town and she can get her

margaritas to go now. Thank goodness for Greg Abbot and his margaritas to go order. We have never had the same in taste in tv except from Friends, The Big Bang and Young Sheldon. Other than those, she doesn’t like mine and I don’t like hers. We can agree to disagree on that. Do you think we’ll ever be able to have rodeos again? I hope so. I make almost 100% of my income from rodeo and rodeo related events. We haven’t had many of those lately to my bank account’s dislike. It will come back. I think we’ll be having jackpots pretty soon. I’ve already heard of a few happening this past weekend and I’m hearing of a few coming up in the next week. I think rodeos will have a little harder

time coming back. For one thing most rodeos are at public facilities and most cities and counties aren’t going to be real quick to allow these events. If they do allow the events how are they going to pay for them? Keep in mind that probably over 50% of our rodeo sponsors are small businesses that have been closed for the past 4-6 weeks. They can barely afford to pay their employees most less sponsor an event. If you know these sponsors from one of your local rodeos, give them a visit and buy something. They need our help now like they’ve helped us for all these years. Praying and hoping, Big Al’

Cody Ohl Leads 2020 ProRodeo Hall Of Fame Inductees Six Time World Champion Cody Ohl headlines an award-winning, eight-member class of inductees that will be enshrined in the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Aug. 1st. Ohl, is joined in the class by six-time Bareback Horse of the Year, Grated Coconut; world champion bull rider Butch Kirby (1978); stock contractor Jim Sutton Jr.; contract personnel Suni Deb Backstrom; notable Randy Witte; rodeo Ellensburg (Wash) Rodeo and world champion barrel racer Martha Josey (1980).

Ohl also shares the record for most round wins in a single year, and he did it on two occasions. Ohl won five rounds in 2001 and 2013. The only other tie-down roper to win five rounds was Dave Brock in 1978. “Just to be surrounded by the ones in this class (of inductees) and the ones continuing to go in means the world,” Ohl said, adding that he’s appreciative of his fans. “The money and prizes were great, but without all the awesome fans, none of it would be possible. Not only is it a great deal to be inducted, it’s awesome to have such a following.”

Cody Ohl – Tie-down roper, allaround At 46 years old, sixtime world champion Ohl will add the title of ProRodeo Hall of Famer to his long list of accomplishments. “It’s the greatest feeling in the world,” Ohl said. “You dream of being a world champion your whole life, and it only gets to be real for so many. To be inducted into the Hall of Fame for a great career is pretty amazing.” After winning the 1994 PRCA Overall Rookie of the Year, the Texas cowboy collected six world champion buckles (allaround in 2001 and tie-down roping in 1997-98, 2001, 2003 and 2006). He also qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo 20 times (1994-2001 and 200314). He qualified for and the Clem McSpadden National Finals Steer Roping three times (1999-2001). With $3.5 million in career earnings, Ohl is second only to Trevor Brazile in total money won in ProRodeo competition. His Ohl’s 20 NFR qualifications ties him for second-most in tie-down roping with Fred Whitfield. Only Mike Johnson has more with 23. Perhaps Ohl’s most memorable run came in a round was during at the 2003 Wrangler NFR when he clocked a time of 6.5 seconds, tying for the third-fastest time ever witnessed in ProRodeo. During his final trip to the Wrangler NFR, he won at least a share of first place in three rounds to extend his tiedown roping event record total to 52 round wins.

Grated Coconut – Bareback Horse Grated Coconut has no equal as a PRCA bareback horse. He won was named Bareback Horse of the Year in 200304, and 200609 and was the top horse of the National Finals Rodeo in 2008. “We’re excited to say the least,” Calgary Stampede’s Keith Marrington said., “For the Calgary Stampede, this is a great honor to have one of their animals recognized on the world stage. We retired him in 2010 because we needed to use his services to keep our program alive and (for) more years to come. He’s a very unique horse and the face of the Calgary Stampede breeding program. We’re just delighted to have him recognized by such a great organization as the PRCA. That’s the ultimate recognition when you retire, and you go into the Hall of Fame and you are recognized by your peers is pretty special for sure.” Grated Coconut, 23, lives on the Calgary Stampede ranch in Hanna, Alberta. “He was special in and out of the arena,” Marrington said. “When he was in the arena, the guys knew anytime they drew Grated Coconut they had the op-

portunity to make money. He was that special horse. He was very consistent. He was athletic and he was honest. He would give the guys and opportunity to get out on him in a respectful style. He did his job and if guys did their job, they certainly had the opportunity to make money. Outside the arena, he was just a different horse, he was very gentle. The horse was halter broke. and hHe has a great demeanor and he’s has passed those genetics on to his offspring.” Grated Coconut was inducted into the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association Hall of Fame (2012) and the Ellensburg (Wash) Rodeo Hall of Fame (2013). Butch Kirby – Bull rider Gary William “Butch” Kirby started trick riding at 4 years old. He never really stopped,

though his trick turned into staying on a bulls for eight seconds at a time. Kirby won the 1978 PRCA world title in bull riding, earning $15,000 at the National Finals Rodeo that year, when roughstock world champions were decided by money won at the NFR. Kirby qualified for the NFR eight times (1973-75, 197778, 1980-82). In addition to his world title, he also finished third twice and fifth once. When his bull riding career ended, Kirby never left rodeo. Instead, he became a pro official for 25 years for the PRCA. When the Wrangler NFR comes around in December, it will mark Kirby’s and judged the NFR for 27 years30th NFR as a judge. Originally born in Salem,

N.J., Kirby made Stephenville, Texas, his hometown. In 1975, he and his brothers Sandy and Kaye were the first trio of brothers to qualify for the Finals in the same year, with Butch qualifying in bull riding, Kaye in bareback riding and Sandy in both of those events. All three were trick riders before going on to careers in ProRodeo. Jim Sutton Jr. – Stock contractor Jim Sutton Jr. is the patriarch of Sutton Rodeo, and he and his wife, Julie, have a six-generation family operation still running strong. Sutton Rodeo is based in Onida, S.D. Jim and Julie were the recipients of the 2017 PRCA Donita Barnes Contract Personnel Lifetime Achievement Award. Sutton Rodeo has had three PRCA Horse of the Year awards: saddle bronc horse Deep Water in 1979, bareback horse Big Bud in 1985 and saddle bronc horse, Chuckulator in 2012. Chuckulator also was the top saddle bronc horse of the 2012 Wrangler National Finals RodeoNFR. Sutton Rodeo stock has been selected to perform at every National Finals RodeoNFR since its inception in 1959, but one. “It’s my birthday (today, April 20), so this was quite the gift,” said Sutton, 85. “This is something I really appreciate. I have been inducted into a half a dozen halls of fames, and if there’s one I wanted to be in this would be it. This is the best award I have ever received.” Jim and Julie took the company to the next level with a focus on production and innovation. Jim began the Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo in 1978, a rodeo nominated 15 times for PRCA Indoor Rodeo of the Year, winning the award in 2002-03. Jim originated the Wrangler Bullfights and the Bailey Bail-Off. He is famous for his pageantry and colorful ro-

deo openings, including the openings at the NFR in 1995-96. Jim has been nominated four times as Stock Contractor of the Year. “I put up with 20 of the best bullfighters in the world for 20 years, I thought that was a pretty good feat,” Jim said. The roots of the Suttons being involved in the rodeo business can be traced to 1926 when the Edwin Sutton family – Edwin was Jim’s grandfather – began producing rodeos on the home ranch in Sully County, S.D. James H. Sutton Sr. took Sutton Rodeo to the next stage in the 1950s when he entered a partnership with Erv Korkow. As one of the first members of the Rodeo Cowboys Association, Sutton/Korkow stock performed at the first National Finals Rodeo at in Dallas, Texas, in 1959. James was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 1982. “I don’t know anybody else I would rather follow,” Jim said. In 1968, James (Jim) Sutton Jr. became a partner with his dad, forming Sutton Rodeo Company. Sunni Deb Backstrom – Contract Personnel Backstrom, of Congress, Ariz., is a 17-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo NFR Secretary (1991, 2000, 2003, 2006-19) who has earned PRCA Secretary of the Year 10 times, more than any other recipient, for her outstanding work as a rodeo secretary. She served as the contestant office manager at the 2005 Finals and three times as an Wrangler NFR timer (1975, 1980, 1984). Backstrom was at a loss for words when she was notified that she was going into the Hall of Fame as contract personnel. Her mother, Ellen, was inducted as contract personnel under the same category in 1995, making them the first mother and daughter to be inducted into the Hall. “My mom was the first woman inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame,” said Sunni Deb Backstrom, 61. “It was one of my proudest days. My entire life is the rodeo industry and always has been. It was my family’s life. It’s very overwhelming, I can’t tell you how much this means to me.” Ellen Backstrom was a four-time NFR secretary and was

elected in the late ’70s to serve on the PRCA Board of Directors as contract personnel director, making her the only female to ever serve on the Board. She passed away March 22, 1988. “I can only aspire to be half as good as she was,” Sunni Deb Backstrom said. “She’s the epitome of a great rodeo secretary and loved the industry as much as I do. What I admired most about her was that she was so honest. She was really dedicated, smart and a forward-thinker.” Sunni Deb Backstrom received her first Rodeo Cowboys Association card in 1968 and her PRCA card in 1976. She works about 120 performances a year for prestigious rodeos such as Denver, San Antonio, Houston, Nampa, Idaho, and Waco, Texas. She has worked for Cervi Championship Rodeo since 1980. Randy Witte – Notable Witte hasn’t been one to be at a loss for words. He spent a career putting them down on paper. But when he was notified, he was going into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2020 as a notable, he wasn’t sure what to say. “That was the farthest thing on my mind,” Witte said. “I’m pretty much speechless. … It’s hard to sink in. I just told the rest of my immediate family. What a tremendous honor. It brings back a flood of memories.” Witte worked on the RCA news bureau and wrote for ProRodeo Sports News for seven years before transitioning to Western Horseman, where he worked for 29 years – the last 17 as the publisher. His career revolved around rodeo, even if he didn’t make it as a bull rider. “When I started out, I was going to be a bull rider,” Witte said. “I made some rides I was proud of. I had help from (Hall of Famer) Jerome Robinson. He taught me and other guys. But he was a lot more dedicated. In my case, it didn’t take me long to find my real course of life was rodeo writing not rodeo riding.” Witte, who lives in Peyton, Colo., worked in the RCA office in Denver leading the RCA news bureau. His job was to produce the weekly news release. He would also contribute to PSN, taking over as editor from 1976-77. Working at Western Horseman added to a career he thoroughly enjoyed.

“I thought I had to go to where I could to tell the rodeo story,” he said. “It felt like I was doing good publicizing it the way I could. I got to meet past and present cowboys who were so interesting to talk to.” Ellensburg (Wash.) Rodeo – Committee With its centennial year on the horizon, the Ellensburg (Wash.) Rodeo has another cause for celebration as a 2020 ProRodeo Hall of Fame inductee. “This is great news, we feel very honored,” said Dan Morgan, Director for the Ellensburg Rodeo. “With everything going on lately, you know there’s been a lot of not-so-happy news out there right now, and it felt really good to get a call like this and brighten the day.” Since 1923 the Ellensburg Rodeo has grown into one of the largest ProRodeo competitions of the regular season. “The fact we have been around for almost 100 years is special, and we’re trying to continue on the sport of rodeo for the contestants, the fans and for the stock, and to support the Western heritage of our county, our state and our country,” Morgan said. While the Ellensburg Rodeo boasted a $368,274 payout in 2019, it’s also home to the Xtreme Bulls Tour Finale, which presented an additional $101,520 in prize money for an overall total of $469,974 – a staggering amount considering the population of Ellensburg is about 21,000. “Ellensburg is a small town, relatively speaking,” Morgan said. “The Ellensburg Rodeo is the biggest event in our town. It brings in a lot of revenue, and for a lot of businesses, that’s their big boom, Labor Day weekend.” Since 1998, three Ellensburg Rodeo directors have been awarded the prestigious John Justin Committeeman of the Year Award – Ken MacRae (1998), Joel Smith (2007) and Steve Adler (2013). “Our rodeo is 100% put on by volunteers, and our volunteers are more important than anything to us,” Morgan said. “We have our board of directors, our top hands and then there’s hundreds of volunteers – I don’t know if I can say thousands but there’s a ton of people. You don’t really think about just how many people it takes until you go to the rodeo and see the same people year af-

ter year. I’ve seen the same people volunteer for as long as I can remember, and I’ve been here my whole life.” Martha Josey – Barrel Racer Josey not only became a world champion barrel racer but got the opportunity to compete in rodeo during the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta, that pitted the United States vs. Canada. Josey won an individual bronze medal and helped Team USA capture the team title. Josey, who resides in Karnack, Texas, qualified for the National Finals Rodeo 11 times on four different horses across a span of four decades. She won her world title in 1980 on Sonny Bit O’ Both, the same year the duo also won the AQHA World Championship, a feat that hasn’t been matched. “I am so excited and just don’t know what to say, I am in shock,” the 82-year-old said upon learning of her induction. “I have received some great honors in the past, but this is among the very highest. It is a true honor to be included in the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in the WPRA category alongside so many great athletes and personnel. “I thought four years ago when the WPRA inducted their first class it was just magnificent, and to get the call today is just wonderful. I am so honored.” Not only did she make a name for herself in the arena but also has given back to the sport through her clinics. She and husband, R.E., started conducting barrel racing clinics in 1967 at their ranch in Texas. Many of today’s world champions credit Martha Josey with helping them achieve their goals. Her clinics have grown to average more than 1,500 students annually. In addition, the Josey’s have been involved in creating new and innovative barrel racing saddles, pads, protective boots, knot reins, and combination bits. The result has been increased safety and increased barrel racing skills. She can add ProRodeo Hall of Fame to the list of hHalls she has been induction to, including the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame, the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame, and the Ark-La-Tex Hall of Fame.

Cody McCartney proves luck, talent and hard work all pay off.

south into the Prairie Circuit. Since then, he has traveled as far north as Canada to accomplish his goals. “I grew up in a small town in southern Michigan, Ottawa Lake. My dad has al-

“I originally came to Oklahoma for college,” McCartney said. “The first two years I went to WOSC in Altus. I came to Durant and finished my degree at Southeastern. It has kind of been home to me ever since. It’s in a pretty good location, and I’ve made quite a few friends in the area.” Location is important when trying to get to as many rodeos as possible throughout the year, and southern Oklahoma is relatively close to several large events. Durant is also home to Choctaw Casinos & Resorts, where McCartney had an exciting night last year. He hit the blazing 7’s jackpot and won $657,901.55 in Choctaw’s mega pit. “One of my best friends, Tyler Milligan, talked me into going up there with him to play some cards after he got back from the finals. I’m sure glad he did,” McCartney said. “It’s been a blessing for sure. I’ve been able to buy a few good rodeo horses and going to use that money to buy a place.” Not only is McCartney lucky at a card table but also in the roping arena. He has experienced plenty of success throwing a rope, and 2019 was a particularly profitable year. McCartney qualified for the Canadian Finals Rodeo and also won an American Quarter Horse As-

At the AQHA World Show in Oklahoma City, McCartney was able to capture the junior tie-down world championship on a special mare named JJMecomplaydox. “She’s a daughter of Playdox, and she’s five this year,” McCartney said. “I had always liked horses sired by him, and my buddy, Ty Smith, found this mare when she was two. He called and said she had some potential and wanted to know if I wanted to partner on her. We ended up getting her and started easing her along. I’ve been

showing horses at the World Show for several years and had never won it before. It was that much more special to win my first world championship on one that I had trained.

We’ve been flushing embryo’s out of her, but when she’s done with that I will start hauling her to some jackpots and rodeos.” Along with JJMecomplaydox, McCartney also hauls multiple time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo tie-down roping mare BCR Popular Scotti, also known as Poppy. Poppy will be bred to cutting horse sire CR Gotcha Covered to add to McCartney’s growing herd of horsepower. McCartney has talented horses lined up, as well as great sponsors. He is sponsored by Rattler and 5 Cent Cattle Company and has big plans for the future. “The main goal is to make the NFR. I have two good horses to ride this year and looking forward to it,” McCartney said. “After rodeo, I plan on training horses. It would be cool to see

one that I trained get rode at the finals.” Traveling up and down the road has slowed down for rodeo cowboys and cowgirls lately, but McCartney has made the most of the

unforeseen circumstances. “Things haven’t really changed on a day to day basis for me since the shut down. We’ve been practicing every day, trying to stay ready,” McCartney said. “I have sev-

The CFR qualifier and AQHA world champion is currently in the top 50 of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world standings and will be roping for a chance to move up into the top 15 for his first trip to the prestigious WNFR.

Contestants will have a 1st preference backed with a 2nd preference on a 1st come, 1st served basis. ROOKIE APPLICANTS

If you are applying for rookie status you must complete and sign the 2019 rookie application in addition to the standard membership application. If you were a CPRA 2018 rookie and did not win $1,500 or more, and did not win a 2018 rookie championship, then you are still eligible for a 2nd year. However, you still must sign the same forms as those first year applicants. If you’ve recently renewed your membership and did not complete the rookie application, you have 30 days from the date of your membership for the form to be received in the CPRA office.

MINOR RELEASES

If you are a minor (under the age of 18) you have 21 days from membership date to have the notarized minors release in the office or your entries will be stopped until the release is received. All minor members are required to have a minor release on file in the office, (one per year). CPRA reserves the right to ask for any additional paperwork/information if the board requests, contestant must provide in a timely manner. “What Defines You” From Pastor Randy Weaver

This article provides simple responses for the Christian to follow during the coronavirus pandemic. We recommend a balanced approach of prudence and faith. We are given ample instruction in Scripture for dealing with any crisis. The coronavirus now dominates the news. It has been classified as a pandemic. Extreme actions are being taken by governments to contain the spread of this disease. It is driving the stock market down. Unfortunately, it is also a part of the political dialogue. It is impacting commerce, travel, entertainment, and sports. The primary concern is not necessarily the current sickness and death count; it is the potential devastation this disease could cause. The Bible has a lot to say about plagues and we can draw counsel from the word of God as to how we should respond to the current situation. As Christians, what should we personally do about the current crisis? ACTS 20:22-24 ~ And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. Sin is like a virus. A virus has symptoms, but the symptoms aren’t your identity. As new creations in Christ, our nature is not sinful, but good. However, sin still attacks us through the flesh. In Romans 7:17 Paul discovered that sin is a power and attacking him through the flesh. Sin is not talked about like it’s a part of us. It’s talked about like an external power. Scripture says believers have been given new spirits, and new hearts with new desires. Though the evil one makes it feel like sin originates with us, it’s actually coming from an outside source and getting to us through our flesh. Think of sin like a parasite or virus. You have the symptoms of the virus, but you are not the virus. The virus is just using your body and infecting it. The virus has absolutely no power until it finds a body to inhabit. You are not defined by the virus. Likewise, your identity is not in your

ability to fight sin. We get a choice each time sin attacks us. We can either obey its lusts or choose to walk in the Spirit and obey the new desires of our newly created selves. You are dead to sin, but sin is still very much alive. The flesh is the vehicle that sin uses to accuse you and misguide you. Our spirit is our core, therefore, we should consider it king. After all, our heavenly King, Christ, resides there. Our time, attention, and energy should be adequately focused on supporting our spirit. Our soul should be considered a servant of the spirit. All of our thoughts and desires

should be subject to whatever the needs of our spirit are. Our body, a temporary shell, is a mere slave to our spirit. Our actions, the words we speak and the deeds we perform, should only serve our spirit in ways that demonstrate the fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Our soul is where our thoughts reside, wherever we direct our focus that area of focus becomes our god. Therefore, sin is the result of allowing the five senses of our body to supersede the divine nature of our spirit. In essence, sin results when the divine order of the three-part whole is flipped inside-out. In sin, our body becomes our king and our spirit becomes its slave. When we choose to allow the body or the flesh to rule us

constantly, Christ will not fully rule in our lives. When this happens, we’re incomplete and an incomplete man cannot victoriously live with this virus of sin. What are you doing in your life to ensure your three-part whole remains in the correct order? Who, or what is your king? If it’s not your spirit, what will you do to change that?
