A
s a good friend of mine once said, "I became an actor because I am wholly unsuited to do anything else." I could not put it better myself. I dabbled in many different areas, but ultimately, I had the realization that if I wanted to excel in life, it would only be through doing what I love.
I have been so fortunate to find a partner in Laura Moore, my amazing wife, and a community of the best patrons and friends who hold the same philosophy of theater that I do. This season, as in previous ones, we always strive to choose intelligent, fun, and thoughtful scripts and scores that make a point, sometimes make us laugh, and that never underestimate the intelligence of our audience. This is our vision. This is our 2019-2020 Winter season. This is how we will tell our stories. So glad you’ve decided to join us once again.
I found that throughout my life I could always make people laugh, or at least hold their attention. I was able to do this without the use of a set or any flashy effects. For the ninth year, I have the opportunity to bring this idea of theater to life. To produce a good show, we need nothing more than great actors telling a story the best way they can.

T he Fri en ds of the The atre The Friends of the Thingamajig Theater Company is a social organization operating in support of the nonprofit professional theater company to assist in fund-raising, organizing social events, and to act as an advocacy group to the community. Just because the extraordinary Summer Season at the Theatre is over, does not mean the Theatre or the Friends take a break. Sure, the winter and spring are not as frenetic as the summer season for Friends activities but really the fun never ends. So, join the Friends and mark your calendars for the upcoming scheduled events. Coming up, we will once more be providing dinner for Tech Tuesdays for the winter productions, on Wednesday December 11 at 5pm, and on Wednesday December 18, also at 5pm. If you have not participated in Tech Tuesdays, they are a wonderful opportunity to break bread with the actors, and stay on and watch how some of the technical aspects of the Theatre come together in rehearsals. We will also have our traditional Winter Party at the Theatre on January 12th at 5pm. There will be a live band, room for dancing, cash bar and plenty of food. For the hardy outdoor types there will be an opportunity in early January to have fun in the snow with the actors. The Friends, in conjunction with Wolf Creek Ski area, will sponsor a ski day with the actors and provide them with lunch and après ski drinks.
All these events are included in your membership fee. Watch your inbox from the Friends for additional opportunities to go snowshoeing or enjoy a new part of the Behind the Scenes series that give members a chance to learn more about how the various aspects of the Theatre work. So if you want to get closer to the Theatre experience and join a group of like-minded people who love Theatre and like to socialize, then you should consider joining the Friends of the Theatre. The membership fee is $35.00 per person per year. Should you wish to join or get more information, access the Theatre web site at pagosacenter.org and go to the tab “support us” and look for links to the Friends. Or you can fill out an application form at the Theatre. F
irst, we got a call from a ticket holder telling us that they heard that there was some audience participation in our production of Spamalot and they did not under any circumstance want to be the audience member that got picked. . . Shortly after, we got a call from Eileen Godfrey, asking how she could guarantee
that her friend be picked for the audience participation part of our production of Spamalot. She’d done it and thought it was a hoot. . . I suspected, but I never did figure out if the friend that she was calling about was the same ticket holder who did not want to be picked under any circumstances. Eileen thought a lot of things were a hoot, including her suggestion that we name our second child “Whiskey!” Eileen and her husband Charlie have been Season Ticket Holders and Friends of the Theatre for as long as I can remember, never missing an event… and Eileen usually showed up early for a glass of wine with Linda Bennett. The two of them never seemed a bit concerned that they arrived 30 minutes earlier than our doors were supposed to be open, because they knew they could still get a glass of wine off me and spend the time cracking up about something together out in the courtyard while they waited. Her smiling face, though absolutely missed, is stuck in my memory as a laughing one. And, if we know anything at all, she is still chuckling now.

oin us this summer for three weeks of theatre fun at the Whatchamawhozits Theatre Camp! Young theatre makers ages seven to thirteen can come learn all about how theatre is made — with lessons taught by theatre professionals. This fun and educational camp culminates in a performance of a musical on the Thingamajig Stage.

Wh o’ s W ho (THE CAST) Kimberly Beasley (Vocalist) is 9 years old and in 3rd grade. She enjoys hanging out with her friends. She was last seen on stage with Mr. Perry’s 2nd and 3rd grade class, singing for the Veteran’s Day breakfast. Kimberly is excited to be part of the Conservatory as well as A Very Perry Christmas. Jenavieve Betts (Vocalist) is a 10 year old in 5th grade. She enjoys acting and riding her horse, Rooster. When not on stage she can be found barrel racing in the arena. Her past credits include Mission Mushu and Aladdin Jr. with Thingamajig Theatre (Whatchamawhozit’s). She would like to thank Mr. Perry and Miss Amy for inspiring her and for their leadership and encouragement in Aladdin Jr. Greg Booher (Drums) retired and moved permanently from Texas to Pagosa Springs in 2014. He began playing percussion when he was in 6th grade. Greg began playing drums again about seven years ago and most recently played for the Always, Patsy Cline production at Thingamajig. He enjoys the theater here very much and is happy to contribute again. Jean Broderick (Cello) was born and raised in the Philadelphia area. She began her study of the cello at age 7 and studied with Francis de Pasquale of the Philadelphia Orchestra until going to Indiana University to study at the music school there. After getting married and starting a family, she worked as an elementary school teacher, and later returned to school to become a registered nurse. In conjunction with that, she also taught citizenship classes for immigrants wanting to become US citizens. Throughout many of these years, Jean continued with her music, playing in community orchestras and teaching private lessons. Recently retired, she now resides in Pagosa Springs where she enjoys horseback riding (and has become an excellent manure shoveler), teaching a small Spanish class out of her home, leather craft and playing cello with the Pagosa Springs Instrumental Music Society and in local musical productions.
Karina Brown (Vocalist) is 11 years old and in 6th grade at Pagosa Springs Open School. She enjoys drawing and the theatre. When she's not studying, she enjoys watching The Masked Singer. She was last seen in Thingamajig’s Whatchamawhozit’s production of Mission Mushu (Cathy). She would like to thank Miss Laura Moore for her guidance and encouragement while directing her last show. Cassidy Giddens (Actor) is excited to be making her Thingamajig debut! Cassidy is a senior musical theatre and directing major at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She has been seen in numerous mainstage shows at NSU, including Martha (Spring Awakening) and Little Red Riding hood (Into the Woods). Regional credits: Crane River Theater Company, Bowery Beauty (Newsies) and Lucy (You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown). Cassidy wouldn’t be where she is today without the love and support from her family, friends, teachers, and her cast. Christian Gonzales (Vocalist) is 10 years old and in the 4th grade at Pagosa Peak Open School. He was last seen in Thingamajig’s Summer Rep as 10 year old Tommy in The Who’s Tommy and Whatchamawhozit’s production of Aladdin Jr. (Aladdin). He enjoys growing his craft though the Conservatory. His other credits include Samson (Young Samson) and Moses (Young Moses) at Sight and Sound Theaters, Branson, MO. Daniel Gonzales (Vocalist) is 8 years old and in the 3rd grade at Pagosa Peak Open School. His hobbies include Pokemon, reading, and playing golf with his dad. When not on stage he can be found playing video games or playing outside with his friends. He was last seen on the stage with Thingamajig in their Summer Rep as 5-year-old Tommy in The Who’s Tommy and the Whatchamawhozit’s production of Aladdin Jr. (Abu). Gabriel is very excited to be sharing the stage with his mom and dad again. Rayleen Hamilton (Vocalist) is a 7-year-old in 1st grade at Pagosa Peak Open School. She loves to draw and dance ballet. She is a student of Mr. Perry Harper at the Conservatory and this is her first production. Rayleen would like to thank her dad for always being so kind.
Perry Harper (Director/Actor) was last seen as the title role in Jekyll and Hyde as well as Harry (Mamma Mia!) with Thingamajig’s Summer Rep 2019. Before marrying his wife, Amelia, he toured the country performing Opera. His favorite Opera is Carmen in which he played Don Jose. Perry is honored to be given this opportunity to share his favorite season with his friends and family. He would like to thank Tim and Laura Moore for giving him the chance to bring A Very Perry Christmas to life. Amy Harper (Costumer/Actor) was most recently seen during Thingamajig’s 2019 production of Men on Boats as well as the Summer Rep as Donna (Mamma Mia!) and Nellie (Jekyll and Hyde). Perry and I truly love this season and can’t wait to help get you in the Christmas spirit!” Bob Hemenger (Sax/Vocalist Performer) grew up in the Detroit area and has been living in Pagosa Springs for the past twenty-seven years (where he continues to grow up.) He's been fortunate enough to play saxophone for five-time Grammy winner Victor Wooten, The Zac Brown Band, Darrell Scott, The Motet, etc. Bob has a 23-year career teaching High School Special Education as well as the Americana Project at PSHS. This is Bob's first theater experience since the 6th grade. Chance Hurt (Vocalist) is in the 7th grade at Pagosa Springs Middle School and is 12 years old. When asked what he enjoys, his response is, “Everything… and everything else”. Chance was most recently featured in this year’s New Playwright Festival as an author of Mystery of Willington Manor and last years Gang Wars of Chicago. His credits with Thingamajig Theatre Company include Aladdin Jr. (Jafar), Annie (Drake), Christmas Gone Wrong, and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. He would like to thank his grandparents, mom, and aunt for always supporting him. Lisa Jensen (Actor) Lisa Jensen grew up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, left the city for the mountains of Lake Louise, and moved to Pagosa Springs in 1999. She built her adobe home here, and now skis, gardens, writes and teaches aikido. She agreed to do this play immediately when Laura told her it takes place in a high school girls’ bathroom and contains crude language. “I spent a lot of time in high school in the girls’ bathroom — it’s -30 in the winter in Calgary, way too cold to hang outside — though I did wonder why Laura thought of me!” Other than a few poetry readings, musical performances and public speaking engagements, this is her first time acting on stage.
James Kiker (Bass) James Kiker has been actively involved in music within the community since his arrival in Pagosa Springs over seven years ago. He has played for Thingamajig Theatre in Les Misérables, Chaps, a Jingle Jangle Christmas, and Always, Patsy Cline. James also plays the tuba for the local brass quintet and community band. By day, James is a software engineer and father of three. Jackie Kleckner (Actor) has lived in Pagosa for just over five years with her two children Lucille and Jackson and her husband George. When she’s not working, she loves to spend time with friends and loved ones and take moments to appreciate life. Her daughter, Lucille has spent some time on stage and has worked with Thingamajig Theater Company. It has been so fun to watch her, and it made Jackie consider what it would be like to act onstage herself. Now is her chance to check it off the bucket list! Lucille Kleckner (Vocalist) is a 10-year-old that is no stranger to the stage. She is in 5th grade at Pagosa Springs Middle School and enjoys theatre and singing music of all genres. Her credits include Thingamajig’s Whatchamawhozit’s productions of Aladdin Jr. (Jasmine), Annie (Annie), Mission Mushu, and Willy Wonka. She would like to thank Miss Amy Harper for helping keep kids in line so they can learn, Mr. Perry for giving her the tools to sing, and Miss Bailey Claffey for helping her prepare for her role as Jasmine this past summer. Her education is in electrical engineering and music education (percussion and piano), music being her truest passion. Her playing and music directing career spans over 40 years, performing mainly out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Colorado Springs and Aspen, having also taught middle and high school band in Monument and Basalt, Colorado. Johannah Laverty (Vocalist) was recently seen playing the roles of Tiny Tim, Ghost of Christmas Past (A Christmas Carol), Amy March/ The Troll (Little Women), in last winter’s Thingamajig season. Johannah is a graduate of the National Theatre Institute at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, where she studied Musical Theatre and Directing. Johannah also attended Fort Lewis College studying Vocal Performance. Johannah is a native Pagosa and is honored to be back this season. She wishes you all a very Merry Christmas! Jesse McFarland (Actor) was born in Slidell, Louisiana, but has spent most of his life in East Texas. He is a transfer student at Northwestern State University and is working on obtaining a Theatre degree with a concentration in Musical Theatre. Notable theatre credits include: Pippin (King Charlemagne), Terra Nova (Robert Falcon Scott), Shrek the Musical (Shrek), Mamma Mia! (Eddie), and Hamlet (Polonius). Jesse is so excited to be making his Thingamajig debut. Paula Millar (Music Director/ Piano) is an active pianist, accompanist, vocalist in Durango, CO. She has music directed and accompanied numerous musical theatre performances including Gypsy (Fort Lewis College), Next to Normal (Durango Arts Center), and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (ART). Jessi Miller (Actor) is returning to Thingamajig Theatre, having last been seen in Men on Boats. Other credits: Irish Revel - Music/ Improv Track, Poe Evermore, A Christmas Carol and Murder at Mount Hope (Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire) and Energized Guyz (National Theatre for Children). T he Actors ( cont i n u ed ) paving the way and being an example in her pursuing acting. Haleigh Sowerby (Actor) is a wife and mother of two little boys. She is a native Texan and moved to beautiful Pagosa seven years ago. She is a sewist by trade, allowing her to work from home and enjoy the fabulous Colorado surroundings. She is very excited to be on stage because she loves to entertain and make people laugh. Will Spears (Guitar) has owned and operated our local radio station, KWUF, for over twenty years. He has played guitar for even longer. You can hear him play in shows, bands and pits around town. He has been seen on the Thingamajig stage in Chaps, a Jingle Jangle Christmas and Love Letters. Sometimes on the radio too. The Wolf howls for Thingamajig Theatre and PSCA! Janzen Tuggle-Rapp (Vocalist) is in the 4th grade at Pagosa Peak Open School and is 9 years old. He enjoys plays and playing video games. His favorite game is Fortnite. His past credit includes Willy Wonka with Thingamajig’s Whatchamawhozit’s. Janzen would like to thank the actors both on screen and on the stage for being an example for performing. Ericka Vincent (Actor) has been married to the love of her life for over fourteen years after meeting him on the Rugby field. They have brought two amazingly beautiful, smart and kind children into this crazy, fun world. For eight years she was a teacher at Pagosa Springs Elementary staying young by teaching 2nd graders. Nowadays you’ll find Ericka in the real estate world working at Colorado Title and Closing Services while also teaching PE part time. Still trying to live up to her HS senior quote every day, “If you’re not weird, you’re not living.” So, enjoy the show!
Evie Welsh-Rhodes (Vocalist) is a 10-year-old in 4th grade at Pagosa Peak Open School. She enjoys creating computer animation and drawing in her free time. She has always enjoyed acting and singing and is excited to be a part of the Conservatory and A Very Perry Christmas. Bella Werby (Vocalist) Bella is a 10 year old in the 5th grade at Pagosa Peak Open School who enjoys singing country music and art. She a been in Thingamajig’s Whatchamawhozit’s productions of Annie, Mission Mushu, and Seusical. Bella would like to thank her mom for always supporting her in everything she sets out to do. Grace Weirsma (Reed) is a high school senior who has an avid love for music. She started piano lessons at the age of 4 and since then has never stopped learning. At 10, she joined the Pagosa Springs Community Band, and at 14, she started volunteering to play music for local community theater. When she was 16, she earned a position in the Colorado All State Band. She plans to audition again this year. Now at 17, she enjoys passing on her love of music through teaching and is looking forward to attending college in the upcoming school year. Hannah Woodhall (Vocalist) is in the 6th grade at Pagosa Peak Open School and is 12 years old. She enjoys drawing and singing. While this is her first experience in professional theatre, she is gaining confidence through the Conservatory. Hannah also enjoys improv. In her words, “I get to completely be myself with improv and make people laugh”.

The C re w Andrew Barratt Lewis (Director/Choreographer) is a Director, Intimacy Choreographer, and Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre. He currently teaches at Weber State University where he specializes in Musical Theatre Acting, Voice, and History. He holds a BA in Musical Theatre from Weber State and an MFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Central Florida. Along with directing collegiately, he has also directed for Texas! The Outdoor Musical Drama, Amarillo Opera, and Amarillo Little Theatre. He is the Musical Theatre Initiative Coordinator for Region VIII of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and the Region 5 Director for Musical Theatre Educators’ Alliance. In 2017, his production of Brooklyn: the musical received six National KCACTF Awards including Distinguished Director of a Musical and Distinguished Production of a Musical. @andrewbarrattlewis andrewbarrattlewis.com Jennifer Faletto (Playwright) was last seen at Thingamajig Theatre Company as a featured playwright in our 2018 Playwright Festival. Her other plays include: Domestic Animals, This Little Light, Reindeer Cupcakes, The Adventure Club & Conspiracy Theory G. Jennifer’s plays have been listed as finalists for the Reva Shiner Comedy Award and the Woodward/Newman Drama Award. Domestic Animals was a 2016 O’Neill semifinalist. Her plays have been developed and produced at The Kennedy Center Page to Stage Festival, Off-Center at The Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Venus Theatre Company, and others. Jennifer studied at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney, Australia and holds a BFA in theatre performance from TCU. She is also a graduate of the Second City Conservatory (Chicago). Jennifer is currently an inaugural Playwright Fellow at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Michael Fuchs (Audio Engineer) grew up in Southern California. From a young age he has enjoyed music and could often be found at local concerts. That love of music lead to a Sound Engineering degree in college. Michael made the move to Pagosa almost seven years ago, after falling in love with its beauty. He is married to his high school sweetheart and has one crazy fouryear-old daughter.
Laura Moore (Director) is the co-Founder of Thingamajig Theatre and the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts. Past acting roles include Louise (Always Pasty Cline), Pilot (Grounded) and Robert Hawkins (Men on Boats). Past Set Designs include Men on Boats, Tarzan, The Who’s Tommy, Disney’s The Little Mermaid. This is Laura’s ninth season directing the local’s show and it remains one of her absolute favorite projects of the year. To the loves of my life, Tim, Finlay and Lachlan – you are everything. Hunter Swineheart (Stage Manager/Board Operator) recently worked with the Thingamajig Theatre as the Intern board operator and stage manager for Men on Boats. His educational credits include Footloose and Hunchback of Notre Dame (Pagosa Springs High School), Fantastic Mr. Fox, You Can't Take It With You, Fiddler on the Roof (Saint Cloud High School.) Community theatre credits include Elf the Musical, Children of Eden, Tarzan (Curtains Up Pagosa) as well as the charity event Dancing with the Pagosa Stars two consecutive years. Elaine Wong (Lighting Designer) is from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, and received her MFA in Lighting Design from Rutgers University. She is currently a freelance lighting designer and master electrician based out of Toronto, ON.
