Texas FCA Rodeo Camp Coming To Jourdanton

FCA Rodeo is excited to announce their 2019 Texas FCA Rodeo Camp at Cowboy Fellowship, February 15-17th. The camp will be held in Jourdanton, TX at the Cowboy Fellowship Church Arena and will feature instruction in the disciplines of bareback riding and saddle bronc riding. Students

will be coached in bareback riding by Bobby Mote, 4-time World Champion and World Champion Justin McDaniel. Saddle Bronc students will be coached by Isaac Diaz, 6-time WNFR qualifier and Joey Sonnier, a recent WNFR qualifier. Many of the instructors only do one or two camps

We just got back from Steamboat Springs, Colorado. We went there again this year for the MusicFest and to ski. This year while there I noticed something. Every restaurant, every shop every business had the best employees I had ever seen. 99% of them were what I would call ski bums. They basically live to ski. Whatever they can do to get to that end they will do. In a town as popular as Steamboat you can imagine the amount of the ski

best at your job they will replace you with someone that is. They literally have a waiting list of qualified applicants. Being a boss myself and knowing how hard good labor is to come by this took me a little by surprise. I had never really been in a town that had this good fortune. Where I’m from we have to wade through the 10 bad ones to find an ok one. If you ever find that one good one, you had better do whatever it takes to keep them. A good one is in high demand. Steamboat had only the best. Martin Luther King would have been amazed at what he would have seen there. As he would say, “they did it well.” I have been doing this magazine for almost 29 years. In those 28 years I have had great months, I’ve had good months and I’ve had months that I don’t even remember because I was in burnout zombie mode. In the beginning I took pride in the fact that I always did my best to make my product look as clean and nice as I could. We had many compliments each month as to how much cleaner our paper was from the others. Not having any professional training made it that much sweeter when you got a compliment.

No Rest For The Weary Texas Circuit Finals Rodeo By Krista Lucas The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo is a whirlwind of a two weeks, and many are ready to get home to enjoy the holidays with family and friends. However, professional cowboys and cowgirls do not get much down time between the finale of the rodeo season

There are 12 regions divided up across the country, and Texas is by far one of the toughest to compete in. Every

Vin Fisher Jr. Wins Texas Circuit Finals Steer Roping Courtesy of the PRCA Waco, Texas - Rodeo victories have been plentiful for Vin Fisher Jr. during his PRCA career. Yet ever since the Andrews, Texas, steer roper joined the PRCA in 2001 he had never won the average at the RAM Texas Circuit Finals Rodeo.

That changed Friday.

Fisher captured the average title with a 34.4-second time on three head at the Extraco Coliseum. The 15-time qualifier for the Clem McSpadden National Finals Steer Roping (2002-2003, 2005-2006, 2008-18) couldn’t hide his joy. “I think this was the 18th Texas Circuit Finals I’ve been to and I had never won the average,” said Fisher, 37. “I tell you what, I was as excited (Jan. 4) as I have ever been to win any roping. My only shot to qualify for the National Circuit Finals Steer Roping (in the spring in Torrington, Wyo.) was to win the average because I wasn’t in the top four in the Texas Circuit year-end standings. That’s a great place to rope. I’ve roped there so many times and it feels really good to finally win the average.” Fisher won Texas Circuit year-end titles between 2010-12. His latest achievement adds to his family’s storied history at the RAM Texas Circuit Finals Rodeo. His father, Dan, won the average at the Texas Circuit Finals Rodeo in 1984 and ’86 as a team roping heeler and was the year-end champ in team roping in 1981.

Tom, won the RAM Texas Circuit Finals Rodeo steer roping average and year-end championships in 2017. Dan, Vin and J. Tom also qualified for the NFSR together in 2010 and 2013. “I had my whole family here (in Waco) – my wife, Candace, sons, Jett 12, and Mack, 7, and daughter, Danlee, 9,” Vin said. “I had the whole crew and I think they were my good-luck charm.” The steer roping at the RAM Texas Circuit Finals Rodeo took place Jan. 4, and Vin didn’t waste any time getting on a roll, winning the first round with a 10.8-second run. “My mind-set was strictly winning the average,” Vin said. “My first steer came out and took a step to the left, and it was one of those shots where you have to try them on. After I won the first round, I just made sure I roped and tied the next two down.” He did, placing in a tie for third in round two with a 10.6-second run. Then he was fourth in round three, stopping the clock in 13 seconds. “The roping was so tough you couldn’t back off any,” Vin said. “In the second round, guys were posting good times and I thought I better tie one fast, so I could keep the lead in the average. In the last round I got to rope last, which was a huge advantage because the last round wasn’t near as fast. I knew exactly what I had to rope to win the average.” Shay Good finished second in the average with a 35.5-second time on three

A year ago, Fisher finished eighth in the 2018 PRCA | RAM World Standings with $77,698. He’s been a perennial world championship contender, finishing a career-best second in the standings in 2015.

“This is by far and away the best start I’ve ever had in my career,” he said. “I’ve never got off to a good start like I wanted to, and this year I think after (Jan. 4) I have just under $19,000 won. I’ve never had a start like this in my life. Winning a world championship is the only goal I’ve had in rodeo since I first started. I feel like I have put everything into it. I work hard at it and go to all the rodeos and always keep three good horses. I’ve put everything into it and it (the world championship) hasn’t happened for me yet, and that’s all I’m going after. I’m going to try my hardest to win the world, and if I don’t, there are no excuses and no regrets.”

TURN OUTS: Members and non-members entering any straight CPRA Rodeo or CPRA 1st approved rodeo will be fined for turnouts. The fine amount is the entry fee plus $25.00. ROOKIE APPLICANTS

If you are applying for rookie status you must complete and sign the 2019 rookie application in addition to the standard membership application. If you were a CPRA 2018 rookie and did not win $1,500 or more, and did not win a 2018 rookie championship, then you are still eligible for a 2nd year. However, you still must sign the same forms as those first year applicants. If you’ve recently renewed your membership and did not complete the rookie application, you have 30 days from the date of your membership for the form to be received in the CPRA office. If you are a minor you have 21 days from membership date to have the notarized minors release in the office or your entries will be stopped until the release is received. “The Sanctuary” From Pastor Randy Weaver Genesis 6:5-8 (NKJV) says, “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. The Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” The size of Noah’s ark ensured that it could carry thousands of animals. The ark’s bargelike shape made it difficult to capsize. The dimensions of the ark were roughly 450’ long, 75’ wide and 45’ high, with a capacity exceeding that of 500 railroad stock cars. The dramatic event demonstrated God’s wrath toward sin, but also His mercy toward those who seek Him. The destruction of every living thing on the earth was a result of man’s decision not to trust God. God still offers a way out to safety in Him, no longer an ark, but simple faith and trust in Him. There is no peace when there is no trust. History, in many ways, has been extremely harsh at times. When you make a list of history’s harshest scourges, you can rank the Black Plague near the top. The disease was catastrophic, disastrous, but not humanity’s deadliest? Scripture reserves that title for a much darker disease, an older pandemic that by comparison makes the Black Plague seem like a cold sore. No culture avoids it, no nation escapes, no person sidesteps the infection of sin. Blame the birth of this plague called sin on a single godless decision. Adam and Eve turned their heads toward the hiss of the snake and for the first time ignored God. Eve did not ask, “God, what do you want?” Adam didn’t suggest, “Let’s consult the Creator.” They acted as if they had no Heavenly Father. The one who had authority over the serpent of old was ignored, and sin with death on its coattails entered the world. Sin sees the world with no God in it. So, what can we do? If all have been infected and the world is corrupted, to whom do we turn? Or, to re-ask the great

question of scripture: “What must I do to be saved?” Acts 16:30. The answer offered then is the answer offered still: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” Acts 16:31. After the great flood, the Lord spoke to Noah. He told him to let every creature that creeps to go about its way of life followed by Noah then building an altar to offer up a great sacrifice. Then the Lord gave His covenant about seed time and harvest. It was a law first, it was a principle second that will always be true. It is a law first because it is a direction that we are to live by. It is a principle because we can apply it to literally every area of our life. The seed is the word of

The Windy City Roundup paid out $1,000,000 to 80 athletes with champions in each of the nine disciplines walking away with no less than $50,0000 and
