WAHAB NAQVEE

ASSOC. AIA

Hello, my name is Wahab Naqvee—a B.Arch graduate from the Illinois Institute of Technology, a BIM/CAD Technician at TGRWA PLLC, and a freelance Architectural Designer at Kiebler-AE PC. I approach architecture as an evolving field of inquiry—one that resists boundaries and thrives on exploration. My work exists at the intersection of design and philosophy, where space becomes a medium to question and reimagine the built environment. I believe architecture is not merely constructed, but discovered. Through experimentation across mediums and fields, I explore how form, material, and experience can be shaped to evoke emotion and create meaningful spatial moments. My work seeks to engage the senses of a soul, and move beyond function—creating environments that are felt as much as they are seen.

PAVILION

SPIRITUAL PAVILION explores the spatial intersection of art and spirituality through the innovation and modularity of bamboo. Guided by nature and light, the space fosters both individual and collective journeys centered on self-reflection, growth, mindfulness, humility, and optimism. Using bamboo as the sole material, the pavilion is formed through an innovative interlocking joinery system that requires no additional aggregates or supports. Creating a space that honors the traditional architectural values of Arashiyama and reflects the community’s ever evolving technological growth, proposing a new way of constructing and experiencing bamboo architecture altogether.

KYOTO, JAPAN

FORM CONCEPT:

Through an iterative process of shaping movement, interaction, and exploration, the Spiritual Pavilion takes the form as a space of peace, harmony, and belonging. The design expresses the flexibility and strength of bamboo through curved pathways and arrays of vertical modular systems, aiming to guide the visitors through both individual and collective journeys, symbolizing the message of hope and growth with every step taken through it. Creating a space that carves through the natural light to evoke the experience of walking through a bamboo forest, and a form that represents the rich architectural heritage of the city. Developing a sense of familiarity allows itself to blend naturally within the context of the site and the thick-lush landscape that surrounds it.

URBAN PARK

ELEMENTAL PARK offers an urban escape from the fast-paced and permanent fabric of Chicago. The project challenges this sense of permanence by foregrounding temporality, allowing visitors to experience the fragility of time and material within the city. Seasonal change and the natural aging of materials generate an ever-evolving spatial condition that emphasizes ephemerality and connection. Paths and spaces shift perception over time, encouraging exploration, divergence, gathering, and reconnection—allowing visitors to construct their own journeys through change. In doing so, the park becomes both an extension of the city and a retreat from it, offering a landscape that contrasts the fixed, fast-paced urban environment with a slower, transformative experience.

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

FORM CONCEPT:

Emerging from a flat, unenergetic site, the project undergoes a process of metamorphosis that dissolves its rigidity into an evolving terrain defined by discovery, ephemerality, and monumentality. A body of water infiltrates the site from its edge, initiating a process of erosion that softens boundaries and fragments the ground into a shifting archipelago. These landforms are stitched together through a network of paths that choreograph movement across the site, while integrated vegetation allows circulation to merge with the terrain. Spaces emerge gradually from this system—inviting exploration through movement and time, and reframing the relationship between material, landscape, and the urban environment.

PERFORMATIVE MARKET

THEATRICAL MARKET is a collective of spaces that fosters community engagement by drawing the public in through the means of performing arts and artistic expression, creating the atmosphere of an urban market. Conceived as the permanent home in New York for the performing arts group, Manual Cinema, the project acts as a hub for performance, public speech, trade, and education centered around their unique artistic practice. Inspired by the spatial and social dynamics of the Ancient Greek Agora, the design reinterprets the idea of a civic marketplace—where art, culture, commerce, and community intersect—into a contemporary architectural framework.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK

FORM CONCEPT:

Inspired by the agoras of ancient Greece, the site transforms from a conventional parking lot into a multi-performing arts marketplace. The form reflects the historical role of the urban market while responding to the neighborhood’s industrial character and artistic identity. Programmed as a central marketplace, the mass is broken into distinct zones for performance, gathering, and exchange—organized by acoustic needs and accessibility. Each space aligns with zoning ordinances and ADA standards, ensuring inclusive access across multiple levels. Diverse programs and elevations are unified under a single roof, symbolizing community and collective experience, while drawing in light through the language of theater and art.
