MULTI

Also known as ‘clamshell’ in the technical jargon. A cover that opens and closes like the shellfish of the same name. At DICOTA, it has been synonymous with ‘computer bag’ since 1992. Tried, tested and much loved. A zip that opens 270 degrees allows direct access to the bag's interior. To prevent the notebook from slipping, each Multi is equipped with a fastening strap.

SLIM CASE

TOP TRAVELLER

The Toploader – the ingenious system for quickly removing and stowing your laptop through the top opening. Extremely convenient and efficient in everyday use – open the zip, insert your devices or documents, close the zip, and you’re done. The 1-2-3 winning formula from DICOTA, established under the name Top Traveller. Each model is equipped with a removable shoulder strap that transforms the bag into a shoulder bag in no time at all.

The Slim Case is the slimmest bag design in the DICOTA range and is based on a minimalist toploader concept. Continuous independent inspections and audits and complete transparency ensure that social standards are consistently observed.

Sustainable materials

The main material we use is recycled PET. Durable, functional and aesthetic carrying solutions are created from used bottles. Compared to conventional polyester, CO₂ emissions are cut by around 50 per cent. Today, 99 per cent of our product range is made from recycled materials – saving more than twelve million bottles that would otherwise end up in landfill and waterways.

Careful use of resources

We work with maximum efficiency. Our approach is characterised by the use of recycled materials and waste avoidance. We completely avoid environmentally harmful substances such as PVC; at the same time, we meet all the requirements of the REACH regulation. To ensure consistent quality, we make use of comprehensive laboratory tests and audits. In addition, we support the circular economy with the help of BellandVision and exclusively use FSC-certified paper for our printed materials.

He's been the face of DICOTA for over 20 years – with energy, curiosity and an inexhaustible wealth of ideas. As Chief Marketing Officer and co-owner, he shapes the brand with passion, perseverance and an eye for what's important.

Michael, you are now a co-owner. How did your journey start at DICOTA?

I started working in Project Sales at DICOTA in 2001. The combination of design and function fascinated me right from the outset, especially the challenge of combining perfect protection with everyday usability. A bag should not only protect your equipment, but also optimise your entire working day. This basic idea still shapes my work today. Over the years, my initial enthusiasm developed into a deep connection with DICOTA, our products, our values and, in particular, the needs of the people who are our customers. My path to becoming a co-owner was shaped by the desire to develop this vision further.

You've been with the company for over 20 years. What has been the biggest change since you started out, and what still drives you today? The market has fundamentally changed. The demands resulting from mobile working have become more complex, technologies have evolved, and distribution channels have been digitised. But our core promise remains unchanged. We develop solutions that make mobile working more secure and more efficient. Issues like sustainability and digital services are becoming increasingly important, without compromising on quality, function or durability. It is this combination of further development and reliability that drives me.

As Chief Marketing Officer, you have delivered many projects. Which of these would you describe as your masterpiece?

The development of the DCT Protection System was an important milestone. Our goal was clear – maximum device protection without compromising design, handling or everyday usability. Together with material experts and product designers, we have succeeded in developing a system that has proven itself in multiple tests and works well in everyday use. Market feedback has consistently confirmed that this approach works extremely well.

Today,

we think more digitally, sustainably and internationally, but the core of our work remains the same. We develop products that are well-designed, durable and reliable.

Which innovations and product highlights are particularly popular with your customers at the moment?

Our FIVE and SEVEN series certainly exemplify our product philosophy – DCT Protection System, clear design and robust materials. At the same time, we are increasing the proportion of recycled and resourcesaving components where they demonstrably meet

our quality requirements. In terms of service, we have expanded digital processes, for example with the B2B portal and other digital services that simplify workflows and speed up collaboration in a variety of ways.

The most important foundation is respect and genuine curiosity. We listen, analyse local markets and think internationally, but we also operate through partnerships.

What sets DICOTA apart from other manufacturers, and why have many companies placed their trust in the brand for years?

Our success is based on our consistent pursuit of excellence. The lifetime warranty is the obvious manifestation of this promise of quality. It is based on painstaking development work, rigorous material testing and continuous quality control. Our customers particularly appreciate the attention to detail – from the choice of materials to the workmanship and daily usability. Anyone who works with DICOTA notices the differences in the detail.

How do you manage your marketing team and motivate them to do their best?

I base my management philosophy on clear goals and creative freedom. Every team member understands

our vision and has the opportunity to contribute their own ideas. This combination of strategic orientation and individual creative freedom creates genuine motivation and drives innovation. Open dialogue and mutual respect are essential in this regard.

DICOTA operates worldwide. How do you manage to successfully combine different cultural expectations?

The key lies in a genuine interest in local characteristics and the establishment of strong partnerships. We carefully analyse the specific requirements of each market and then adapt our solutions accordingly. Quality is persuasive worldwide when it is based on a genuine understanding of cultural differences. Thinking globally and delivering locally, that’s the key.

What direction will you take DICOTA in over the coming years? How do you remain attractive to all your customers?

We continue to focus on quality, sustainability and innovation. But the crucial factor for us has always been the specific benefit to the user. DICOTA sees itself as a partner for modern working life. We develop solutions for people who work flexibly, digitally and on the move. This means more intelligent functions, greater sustainability and a close connection between product, brand and user experience.

QUESTIONS FOR MICHAEL MÜHLENBRUCH

What challenges does DICOTA face at the moment and how do customers benefit from your responses to those challenges?

Supply chains have become more demanding, requirements more specific and markets faster paced. Our response to this is agile organisation with long-term product and quality planning. We are working on more efficient processes, stronger digital support, for example through product registration and direct online services, and on product ranges that function reliably across generations of devices. Customers benefit from faster responsiveness and solutions that work in everyday life.

At the same time, the human component remains crucial. Creativity, empathy and brand identity cannot be replaced by AI – but it can support them.

In a world that is becoming increasingly digital, what opportunities does AI open up to take DICOTA products and services to a new level?

AI is helping us to evaluate data better and speed up decision-making in product development, in processes and in communication as a result. We can identify trends earlier, plan demand more accurately and provide information in a more targeted manner. The key factor is still that people are our focus. For us, technology is a tool for measurable enhancement of customer experience, quality and service.

And finally, what personal message would you like to send out to all our customers?

More than three decades of constructive feedback and customer trust in us have made DICOTA what we are today. Every customer suggestion, criticism and positive response has inspired us and helped to drive us forward. Let's work together to shape the future of mobile working with products that not only protect devices and inspire people, but also add real value to everyday working life. Digital security ends at the screen, not at the firewall. Visual hacking, also known as "shoulder surfing", is one of the most obvious and most frequently underestimated forms of attack in use.

The consequences are serious: according to a survey by Bitkom, attacks involving espionage, theft and sabotage cost the German economy alone 223 billion euros a year. Situations where screens are easily visible in offices, at public counters or in mobile working environments are particularly critical.

Regulatory obligations and compliance

Since 2018, the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has required all companies to protect personal data. Article 32 requires technical and organisational access protection, including stopping third parties from gaining sight of data. This applies to stationary and mobile devices.

Risks of non-compliance

Inadequate protective measures may be categorised as a GDPR violation following a data breach. The consequences are far-reaching. Fines of up to ten million euros or up to two per cent of global annual turnover may be imposed.
