01 VELENJAK HOTEL Type: Professional work, Hadi Teherani Office Location: Tehran, Iran Design Team: Diba Baghernejad, Ali Ghorbani Render: Fatemeh Ghanbari Status: Under Construction 2021

This Project embarked on designing a hotel nestled in the beautiful setting of Northern Iran, a location that presents stunning views of both mountains and cityscapes. The focal point of design was the strategic interaction of the hotel’s form with the adjacent North Park, an element that deeply influenced our design choices. The concept emerged from three distinct design alternatives, out of which one was approved by the client. The selected design encompassed a diversely structured volume that progressively reaches out towards the park, creating an inviting extension of the natural landscape.

9

In the design, the structure subtly shifts towards the park, cultivating an array of green gardens boasting varied views, ultimately converging the indoors with the outdoors. Spanning an expansive area of 30,000 square meters, the hotel features nine floors of accommodation from the third to the eleventh floor, housing a total of 100 rooms. The hotel’s architecture also comprises a range of additional facilities, such as a rooftop, ballroom, parking, and a welcoming lobby. Each component meticulously designed to enhance the user experience while harmoniously integrating with the surrounding environment. This design journey was both challenging and rewarding, and it demonstrated the potential of thoughtful architectural design to create a seamless relationship between built structures and their natural surroundings.

02 TEHRAN 9KM Type: Professional work, Hadi Teherani Office Location: Tehran, Iran Design Team: Diba Baghernejad, Ali Ghorbani Render: Fatemeh Ghanbari Status: Concept 2021

The Tehran 9KM project represents an urban design intervention aimed at revitalizing a previously neglected 9-kilometer strip above the old Tehran to Western Iran train line. This underutilized expans, had contributed to a visual discordance, standing in stark contrast to the vibrant life of the city. The proposed solution involved a vision of transforming this stretch into a lively hub of community activities, making it a new attraction center for the city. The design was conceived as a sequence of urban centers along the line, offering diverse experiences and amenities to residents and visitors alike.

12

In the Tehran 9KM project, we reimagined traditional Iranian architecture by integrating central gardens into urban centers, creating tranquil spaces amidst city life. Encased by multifunctional walls housing stairs and stores, these areas are a fusion of utility and aesthetics. The project, guided by a high-tech approach, promises modern amenities with enhanced environmental efficiency, contributing to sustainability and economic growth. In essence, Tehran 9KM offers a forward-thinking urban design that blends tradition with modernity, nurturing community integration and sustainable city living.

03 KELARDASHT VILLAS Type: Professional work, Pargar Studio https://pargar.studio/kelardasht_villa Location: Kelardasht, Iran Design Team: Diba Baghernejad, Leila Azizi Lead Architect: Behzad Heidari Render: Babak Behnava Status: Under Construction 2019

The similar and identical villas with the common areas of 3793 square meters identified the designing process; in addition, the 100% slope of the ground made it challenging to design uniformly on the site bed. “Flight” is the only word that comes to mind after visiting the site. Half of the area of all three villas was designed as a cantilever overlooking the valley so that they could reveal the flight notion. An east-west box that connects three similar villas at the northern end of the land serves a structural role and stabilizes the reciprocal weight of the cantilever.

15

If all three villas were constructed on the slope, the vast amount of site would be interference with excavation and embankment. To reduce the environmental interference, we decided to design a noticeable part of villas as consoles.

With the help of trusses and the east-west box as a lever, the nine-meter console was applicable. The east-west box

The placement of three similar villas in common land emphasized privacy which influenced the form-finding. The spectacular scenery acquired a transparent form that provides the maximum view for residents. Meanwhile, restricting the outsider’s perspective towards interior life was essential. Consequently, a solid form embracing a transparent interior u-shaped form was an efficient solution.

04 PATRIS OFFICE BUILDING Type: Professional work Design: Diba Baghernejad Location: Tehran, Iran Render: Babak Behnava Status: Under Construction 2020

It was a semi-constructed building offered after the skeleton’s construction stage; thereby, considering the current situation and redesigning the project in terms of Iranian innate, opposed to the previous approach of its design, concluded to the creation of this office building. It is a six-story building located in the West of Tehran. Dignified Brick and adjacent with another smooth material have always been stimulating for me. I decided to study various brick patterns and other Iranian elements for producing a unique brick facade. As a result, blending the soul of traditional architecture in contemporary aesthetics is revealed in an impressive brick pattern.

19

Muqarnas, a form of ornamented vaulting in Islamic architecture, inspired me to make a smooth transition between a lively material (turquoise blue tile) to a dignified material (Brick) 2D facade. The formula that muqarnas used was converging to a point. I have redesigned it to fade two kinds of materials to each other by changing the converging structure to a parallel one.

By the use of grasshopper in Rhino, I could produce my desired formula in a way to blend the two materials. Consequently, considering the two mentioned materials on opposite rectangular edges, they integrate with exponential intervals.

Providing an appropriate view in contemporary compressed cities has always been a challenging issue for designing. The adjacency of a prominent park affected the form by seeking better scenery. Brick is a traditional material integrated with Iranian architecture, illustrating the solid and steady form. On the other hand, white plaster represents flexibility and mitigates sturdy bricks. The project is a six-story residential building with two units on each floor.

23

To provide a better scenery for residents, it acquired a rotation. Indeed, the white and smooth plaster boxes are metaphors for the innate human spirit searching for better sight by rotating towards the park.

Silence and Transparency are the building’s response to the exquisite and eternal view of the apple orchard in front of it. Baghe sib is a four-story building located in 2400 square meters of land. The building in the central part has a void with staircases, elevators, green walls, connecting bridges between the units, and water on the ground floor emphasizing the impact of the main perspective on inner layers.

29

Semi-closed spaces such as balconies provide the opportunity of enjoying the orchard’s view.

It is 7853 square meters, a nine-story residential building located in Tehran. The initial idea was to make the best composition to define an apartment as a desirable place to live with green balconies. Brick is an enjoyable material used in many historical buildings in Iran. Its adjacent to cement and wood with the unique quality of vertical green space produced a pleasurable atmosphere as a residential building. There is a single unit on each floor with a separate accessible suite. Each unit is about 450 square meters with three spacious bedrooms.

The project’s main concept is a transparent Cubic villa made of glass embraced with a solid form. Limiting the neighbors view with tall green trees and cables located on two sides of the project are the other consideration for the client’s demands for privacy. It is a modern duplex villa which is about 500 square meters building. The private part consists of bedrooms located on the top floor, and other public spaces such as the living room, kitchen, and dining room are on the ground floor. There are two direct accesses to the second floor: straight exterior stairs to the balcony connecting to the yard and an interior stair box for inside connection.

In order to streamline the assembly process, thorough research was conducted, revealing that rubber alone could provide ample strength for segment connections, thereby eliminating the need for additional components. To further fortify these connections, steel cables were employed and securely anchored at the end of the house.

Users can use the digital platform to reassemble their home, like expanding or reducing. There are different modular parts to choose from, and the platform will calculate the price and generate it automatically.

10 JARDIN DE VILLARS CONTEST Type: Architectural Competition Location: Villars, France Design Team: Diba Baghernejad, Hediyeh Ghatan Render: Diba Baghernejad Status: Concept 2020

The goal was to create an eco-sustainable place that allows guests to be connected deep in themselves by creating a symbiotic multitude of functions, combining public/private and indoor/ outdoor activities in a single hybrid entity: Restaurant, wellness, rooms, and outdoor terraces. So, we decided to achieve it by creating spaces that combine elements of architecture, landscape design, nature into holistic, and authentic experiences. In this way, we hoped to elevate the senses and nourish the spirit of the guests. By Studying rural areas in France and the site’s topography, we decided to integrate the whole design concept with the Landscape. Moreover, the potential Environment in France for planting Lavenders was an excellent opportunity to design the entire complex as a platform for the growth of those plants without interfering with the existing Landscape. The harmony of material colors is chosen based on the nature of the site.

47

Conceptual idea:

Lavender farms in the vicinity

Rural areas in South France

The project does not impose itself on the natural Landscape. In fact, it has a dialogue with the immediate surroundings, blending in with the flora, fauna, and geography while also providing an element of uniqueness.

13 The height differences in the site’s topology are thirteen meters contributing the form to be blend with the Environment. 48

Having created an efficient module regarding the site’s slope, we could develop a functional form, integrated with the site and augmented existing natural features, including hilltop views.

The location of existing trees was found by exploring the aerial pictures, keeping them as many as possible during the project’s design; consequently, the result kept almost ninety percent of them.

Accommodational modules

Site Plan

Location of existing trees on the site

Alongside symbiotic living, sustainability is at the heart of this project. The project limits its environmental impact, visually and technically. It positively impacts the guests’ health, comfort, and livability without harming the natural environment. ‘Grange Basse’ farm is at the core of the project, where the products have grown. We decided to give the guests a chance to be integrated with the food supplying to boost their feelings towards the unique and calm nature of the project. Furthermore, the farm’s products will be immediately delivered to the restaurant in order to enjoy the fresh foods. 49

Since the project contributes to both golf players and others enjoying their time in this resort, golf cars are the attraction for transferring visitors all over the site, whether accommodation rooms or public services. Moving by golf cars can be eased with the help of designed ramps integrated with the form. 50

11 PERSIAN HAMMAM (BATHHOUSE) Type: Professional work, Pargar Studio Location: Tehran, Iran Design Team: Diba Baghernejad, Shima Khoshpasand, Behnam Barzegar Lead Architect: Behzad Heidari Render: Omid Taheri Status: Concept 2019

Ancient Persian bathhouses, called “hammams”, have a rich reputation over time. Many of them have been turned into museums, restaurants, and cafes. Only are few of them precisely as the time-honored ones to gift people the experience of ancient baths. However, due to the modern era, there was a void for reproducing it in a novel implication of Iranian bath and Spa house. Scrutinizing documents related to these treasure troves of historical bathhouses, we have been able to reproduce the spaces and define modern usages, which was a worthy experience. The project was considered to be built in Tehran as a recreational spa center with Iranian essence.

ancient Iranian bath study

Iranian geometry study

According to the novelty and uniqueness of the project’s implication, there was a fundamental need for exploring traditional Iranian Hammams. Initially, we studied many of them for conceiving circulations, space notions, and geometry. Surprisingly, all of them were rich in geometry, and it steered us towards scrutinizing Iranian geometric forms. On the other hand, Qanats and Cisterns are two prominent breakthroughs in Iran’s history, which have appeared metaphorically in some spaces. Water, mirror, reflection, and purity are all revealed in the entire project as an anecdote.

In this project, various services are offered, such as a beauty and hairdressing salon, a restaurant and cafe, phlebotomy rooms, a grocery, and an herbal store. 02. Sarbineh: Since people spent more than half a day in the hammam, this place used to be a gathering place, such as special rituals. 03. Garm-khaneh(hot bathing hall) : It is the main space where people experience Iranian massages and baths.

12 COMMERCIAL AND FASHION DEPARTMENT Type: Accademic, Final Project Design: Diba Baghernejad Professor: Dr. Abbas Tarkashvand Fall 2017-2018

The fashion complex is a suitable environment for national designers boosting their imagination, exhibiting their products, and selling immediately to customers. In addition, it works as an urban attraction for people to enjoy their time visiting the building. The building was located in the middle of the urban site in the north of Tehran, designed as three woven bands, and the 16,000 square meter building sat on a 20,000 square meter site.

Form-finding was derived from the fabric textures, which is the fundamental notion of fashion and clothes designing. Three main narrow bars are woven with each other to provide a unique form representing fashion and styles.
