FROM THE BOARD
The Club Board of Directors is focused on governance and strategic planning. Our Management Team, led by General Manager Greg Gonsalves, is responsible for day-to-day operations. Our Advisory Committees support both the Management and the Board by making recommendations to enhance the member experience.
Our Key Takeaways from the Capital Strategy Planning Work
One of the Board’s key goals this year is to set our Club on a stable financial platform. At our Annual Meeting last November, Dale Walsh, our Treasurer, outlined how our current capital dues structure is inadequate to cover debt service ($29M) and all of our obligatory capital (repair/replacement) needs to maintain and refresh our assets.
In response, members of our Long Range Strategic Planning committee, Finance Committee and management team partnered with Club Benchmarking to develop a sustainable, long-term capital funding model. We presented this work in a Town Hall on March 25. You can watch the full presentation on our website. Here are the key takeaways from the presentation:
∙ The Club’s asset base increased dramatically with the renovations we’ve taken to Clubhouse and Golf Course. We are planning proactively (vs. reactively) to continuously maintain and improve our Club.
∙ Strong, high performing club's utilize capital dues to fund debt service and obligatory capital needs, and net initiation fees to cover aspirational capital items.
∙ We must transition from our dependence on net initiation fees funding our obligatory capital toward capital dues funding these needs. Net initiation fees need to fund our aspirational capital.
∙ We’ve developed a 20-year capital funding strategy that covers existing assets (obligatory), new improvements (aspirational) and provides the option of paying down our debt early, without relying on assessments.
∙ Maintaining best in class amenities drives demand for membership and reduces attrition, which increases initiation fees and dues, resulting in increased value in Club membership.
The Board is committed to providing regular, transparent updates as we consider transitioning to a new capital funding model.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY PUB CRAWL

FROM THE MANAGER OF
HUMAN RESOURCES
At Diablo Country Club, we make it a priority to recognize and celebrate our employees for their hard work and dedication throughout the year. Taking time to acknowledge employees not only shows gratitude, but also strengthens morale, fosters a positive workplace culture, and reinforces the value each team member brings to the overall member experience. As an example, Employee Appreciation Day is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the hard work, dedication, and commitment of the individuals who help make our Club a special place each day. This year, we hosted a raffle throughout the day, provided extra treats in the break room, and took time to recognize each employee’s efforts and contributions.
These gestures strengthen morale, foster a positive workplace culture, and remind our team that their hard work is noticed and valued. In addition, this past January, we also held a karaoke and casino night, giving employees a fun way to unwind, connect with one another, and enjoy the Club they work so hard to support- we announce our employees of the year and gave out over 50 raffle prizes for those in attendance.
None of this would be possible without the generosity and support of our members. This is also why it’s so important for members to vote for Employee of the Month each month, providing meaningful recognition and encouragement to the team members who make the Club a special place every day.
To help members put a face to the names of the team members who serve them, we will soon begin featuring individual employee photos on the member website. We also have several upcoming employee-focused events, and any member interested in supporting or participating can reach out to Aixa Santos in Human Resources, aixas@diablocc.org—we will gladly accommodate your involvement.

SPRING INTO FITNESS AT THE CLUB
Spring has officially arrived, bringing longer days, warmer weather, and the perfect opportunity to refresh your fitness routine! With the sun staying out a little later, we’re excited to introduce our new Sunset Yoga class, held every Thursday evening at 5:30 PM with Michelle Santos. There’s no better way to unwind than moving through a flow as the sun sets—this is one you won’t want to miss.
We’re also thrilled to announce the return of our Candlelight Yoga events with Shiva, beginning again in April. These specialty sessions create a calming and restorative environment—keep an eye out for upcoming dates and sign-ups.
Adding to our growing list of offerings, Aqua Fitness Classes with Brandon James, will launch on Wednesday, April 2nd at 10:00 AM. This class is expected to fill quickly, so be sure to reserve your spot early and enjoy a low-impact, high-energy workout in the water.
Looking ahead, we’re bringing back Kids and Teen Fitness Classes later this spring. With sessions planned for two evenings during the week and Saturdays, our trainers are excited to help younger members build strength, confidence, and athletic skills in a fun and supportive environment.
Of course, our core class lineup—including weightlifting, yoga, stretch, Pilates, and rotational power—continues to thrive. These classes are
becoming increasingly popular, so we encourage everyone to sign up in advance to secure a spot.
We’re especially excited about the addition of our new turf patio space, set to be completed mid-March just outside the fitness center. This upgraded area will provide expanded room for classes, personal training, and new programming as we head into the warmer months.
Personal training is on fire this year, with our incredible trainers working with members of all ages—from 11 to 91! Whether you’re just getting started or looking to level up your routine, we’ll match you with the perfect trainer for your goals. Interested? Reach out to me at michelep@diablocc.org!
We look forward to seeing you enjoying everything the season has to offer—see you at the fitness center!

FROM THE EXECUTIVE CHEF
CHEF'S CORNER
Springtime is here, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone enjoying dining outside at the Club again. First and foremost, thank you all for the continued positive feedback on what we are doing in the kitchen. My team is very proud of the work they’re putting in, and the comments from our members continue to motivate them to keep improving and maintaining consistency.
We had some great events last month and are looking forward to creating even more memorable moments in the coming months.
We are continuing to add themed nights throughout each month. Family Night was a great success, and Island Night is another one to look forward to. Chef Zac, a Hawaiian native, will be taking the lead that evening, and he has some delicious dishes planned for everyone to enjoy.
Our new menu has been launched and has been very well received. We’ll make a few minor adjustments as we go, and then our next major change will be the summer menu. We have lots of great ideas in the works, and the upcoming seasonal produce will be a great source of inspiration.
With the weather warming up, I’m working with beautiful spring ingredients like asparagus, fava beans, and artichokes. These will start appearing as daily specials and will also find their way onto the dining room’s summer menu.
Katia continues to refresh her dessert offerings with rotating daily sorbets, ice creams, and a dessert of the month that are always delicious. She’s especially excited to start incorporating seasonal favorites like strawberries, cherries, and of course rhubarb.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Club this spring and again thank you from the culinary team.

FROM THE HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL
April is always deemed the beginning of golf season, with the Players Championship having finished and the Masters right around Amen Corner. The weather is starting to get hot, the golf course is coming back from aeration, and the Diablo tournament season is starting. Let’s dust off our shorts, bring out the new pair of white shoes that we didn’t want to get muddy, and work on hitting good golf shots!
We are starting the tournament season here at Diablo CC, with the first DWGG and Niners events already in the books. The 2026 Mystery Mixer, played the first week of March, had the winning team of Sia McDonald, Becky Gibbert, Barbara Prosser, and Shawn Luecht squeaking by the team of Julie Hoyle, Lindsay Walker, Gail Gibbons, and Linda Merrill. The shenanigans were in full swing for the Niners Lucky Leprechauns event. The winning team of Lucia DeBene, Julie Pearce, Linda Merrill and Carole Kroyer prevailed. Great playing by everyone! Up next is the Men’s Four Man event, with some saying it is the best weekend of the year. Good luck to the participants and remember to make putts!
With the tournament season starting up, I think it is very important to practice with efficiency and a purpose. I recently spoke to a former professional basketball player who said he would put up 500+ shots a day in practice, because the more he shot the “better he would be”. He recently spoke to Klay Thompson, one of the greatest shooters in NBA history, and asked how many shots he took daily. “150, but the right 150”. I instantly thought about how to bring this to our practice here at Diablo. If we would take 120 yards and in, including chipping and putting, and focused to become the best player from this distance, we would watch our scores plummet! Could you imagine getting to 120 yards or closer and only taking 2-3 shots to get the ball in the hole the majority of the time? The best part is that the Diablo CC practice facilities are geared toward this part of the game. Where many think we are limited in our practice facility here, it is making us better in the long run!
Once we have honed in our physical work, it is then time for our mental focus. Did you watch the ending to the last few PGA Tour events? All had endings where the world’s best players crashed and burned on the last few holes. Why? Because playing golf under pressure is one of the hardest things to do. The key to playing under pressure is to understand what your body is doing and feeling and understanding where the golf ball is going. For instance, I know that I get super tight and the ball will slice! So, when I get nervous, I aim left and slice it! Get to know what you do when you are nervous and conquer that fear!
Have many of you noticed the greening of our golf course? The Bermuda grass is coming out of hibernation and starting to pop! With this still comes responsibility to take care of our golf course. Please continue to use the gate system when driving golf carts, staying out of the rough all around the course. Please continue to pair up when possible, remember the less amount of tires on the course the better it will be. Lastly, remember to fill all divots and fix all ball marks. Let’s keep the course in it’s fantastic shape.
Remember, golf is hard!

FROM THE AGRONOMY TEAM UPDATE
SPRING HAS ARRIVED ON THE GOLF COURSE
March has brought warmer temperatures and ideal growing conditions, allowing the golf course to begin its seasonal transition into the spring growing period. Our team has been focused on preparing the course for the months ahead while completing several important agronomic practices and improvement projects.
Greens Aeration Completed
Our annual greens aeration was successfully completed March 16–18 , with the golf course reopening on March 19
This year’s aeration was performed slightly more aggressively than in previous years. While this approach can extend the short-term recovery slightly, it greatly improves long-term soil structure, drainage, and root health, all of which contribute to better putting surfaces throughout the year.
Recovery is progressing well, and we expect:
∙ Approximately 95% recovery within two weeks
∙ Full recovery within three to four weeks
We appreciate everyone’s patience during this important process, as it is one of the most beneficial practices we perform for the long-term health of our bentgrass greens.
Fairways & Tees Beginning Spring Growth
Our Santa Ana Bermudagrass fairways and tees have responded quickly to the above-average temperatures this month. We are already seeing strong green-up and early spring growth, which puts the course slightly ahead of our typical seasonal schedule.
As temperatures continue to rise, turf density and color will continue to improve throughout April and May.
Practice Facility Updates
The new practice mats have been very well received by members. We appreciate the positive feedback.
In addition, the practice turf areas are now in suitable condition for use, and the golf professional staff will begin utilizing them when conditions allow.
Native Area Trial
The native fine fescue trial surrounding the #1 green is currently germinating and beginning to establish.
While germination has been slower than originally anticipated, the trial is providing valuable insight into establishment timelines and management practices for native areas. The knowledge gained will help guide potential future native area improvements across the golf course.
Upcoming Course Projects (for April 1-15)
Bermudagrass
Spring Sodding
Areas targeted include:
∙ Drainage repair areas
∙ Winter traffic and wear locations
∙ Fairway bunker entry points
Clubhouse Landscape Refresh
This project includes:
∙ Seasonal color changes
∙ Replacement and supplemental plantings
∙ New mulch installation
As always, thank you for your continued support of the Agronomy Department and the golf course. Spring is an exciting time as the turf begins to grow more actively, and we look forward to the improving conditions in the weeks ahead.
We appreciate the opportunity to care for the golf course and provide the best possible playing experience for our membership.

RACQUET SPORTS
RACQUET SPORTS UPDATE – SPRING AT DIABLO
Spring is here, and the Racquet Sports Department has been buzzing with activity. Over the past couple of months we’ve hosted some fantastic events that really highlight what makes the Diablo tennis and pickleball community so special, great competition, lots of laughs, and members coming together to enjoy the game.
On the morning of February 7, we hosted the Galentine’s Pickleball Social. Even though it was a chilly morning, it quickly turned into a great day on the courts. Pickleball players showed up ready to compete and have fun. Everyone wanted to win every point! But once the paddles were down, the friendship and camaraderie came out and it was all smiles and love. The food was delicious and the heart-shaped cookies were a big hit.
Later in the month, on February 26, we hosted our Dynamic Duos Tennis Social. The weather tried to challenge us that morning with wet courts, but our staff worked incredibly hard to get the courts dry and ready for play. We even made a last-minute adjustment and switched the format to Fast Tennis, which turned out to be a huge success. The outfits were fantastic, the energy was high, and everyone embraced the spirit of the event. Kudos to the players and the staff — everyone deserves an A+ for making the morning so much fun. Events like this remind me how great the vibe of our racquet sports community really is.
February was also an exciting month for our junior program. On February 21-22, Diablo hosted a USPTA Junior Tennis Tournament , bringing talented young players from clubs across the area to compete. What made the event even more special was seeing seven Diablo juniors competing and representing our Club.
A big congratulations to our Diablo players:
∙ Noor Khaiser – Champion, Girls 12 & Under
∙ Caroline Welch – Runner-Up, Girls 10 & Under
∙ Violet Collins – Runner-Up, Girls 14 & Under
Way to go girls! It was great to see our junior players competing, learning, and most importantly having fun on the court.
March kicked off with one of our favorite themed events, the St. Patrick’s Tennis Social on March 5. It was a night full of energy, laughter, and some pretty creative outfits. Players rotated courts playing live ball drills and enjoying the friendly competition.
Our coaches brought an extra dose of energy that night, and I didn’t know they looked so good dressed as leprechauns! The costumes definitely added to the fun atmosphere.
Did you know our General Manager Greg is a pretty good tennis player? He showed up ready to play, with his forehands and backhands dialed in.
Chef Andy also did a fantastic job with the food that evening. If you weren’t there, you definitely missed a fun night at the courts.
To cap off the evening, Marco and Payton played a tennis exhibition match, and members gathered around the courts enjoying the show while sipping on their favorite drinks.
Another big milestone this season is that all of our USTA 40+ teams have officially completed their regular season. Every team competed hard throughout a long season, and I want to thank all of our players, and especially our team captains, for staying positive and flexible as we worked through wet courts and multiple reschedules. That’s never easy, and I truly appreciate everyone’s patience and support.
Our East Bay League teams are still competing and the season will wrap up at the end of April, so we’re looking forward to seeing how those teams finish the season.
Adult Tennis Clinics
I also want to remind everyone about the variety of tennis clinics we offer each week. Our program is designed to serve players of all levels, from beginners all the way up to 4.0 players.

Pickleball Program Update
Pickleball continues to grow here at Diablo and it’s been great to see the courts full throughout the winter months. Our Winter Pickleball League wrapped up at the end of February, and despite some chilly evenings and cooler temperatures, our players showed up relentlessly each week ready to compete. There were some fun battles on the courts and a lot of great rallies throughout the season.
Pickleball Shamrock Smash Social
The Spring Pickleball League has begun! Our Pickleball Shamrock Smash Social was a hit! Members showed up ready to play, compete, and have some St. Patrick’s Day fun on the courts. There were plenty of great rallies, lots of laughs, and just the right amount of friendly competition
A big shoutout to Diana, Evan, and Ryan for bringing the energy all night long, they truly kept the vibe going and made it a fun and memorable evening for everyone.
From lucky shots to a few “shamrock smashes,” it was a great night filled with good pickleball, great company, and plenty of Diablo spirit.
If you missed it… you definitely missed some fun!

∙ We also have paddles available for purchase, including the Drew Brees OWL version, which looks fantastic and plays great.

2026 WINTER CORNHOLE SEASON RECAP
What a season! Even though the 2026 Winter Cornhole league lasted only five weeks, it delivered nonstop excitement, close finishes, and plenty of highenergy moments. The 5:30pm division in particular gave us a finale worthy of a movie script. Ice Ice Baggy, Maized and Confused, Cornadoes, and Diablo Dranos all finished the regular season in a four-way tie for first place, forcing a special playin round to determine who would move on. After some intense games, Maized and Confused and Ice Ice Baggy secured their spots in the playoffs.
Over in the 7:00pm division, things were just as competitive. Airmail and Board Lords rose above the pack, earning the top two seeds and advancing directly to the playoff bracket. With both divisions settled, the postseason was set, and the stakes couldn’t have been higher.
The semifinals featured two thrilling matchups: Maized and Confused vs Board Lords and Ice Ice Baggy vs Airmail. Both games kept spectators on the edge of their seats, but it was Maized and Confused and Airmail who powered through and advanced to the championship round.
The finals were everything a cornhole fan could hope for. Maized and Confused and Airmail traded
Morgan Becker, Joe Hawkins, Mike Pennisi, Jeremy Welch (Not Pictured) Lindsey Pennisi, Caty Welch and Deb Becker
points, big throws, and momentum swings all the way down to the final bag. In a dramatic finish worthy of a highlight reel, Maized and Confused landed the decisive throw and claimed the title of 2026 Winter Cornhole Champions.
Short season? Yes. Packed with excitement? Absolutely. And if this winter run is any indication, the next season is going to be even bigger.
