The Bunker on Takarunga needs urgent work The Bunker on the summit of Takarunga, one of Devonport’s most historic buildings, is in poor condition and needs immediate repairs. Much of the concrete in the 1891 building is deteriorating, according to reports obtained by the Devonport Flagstaff under

the Official Information Act. The Bunker – home of the Devonport Folk Music Club for more than 50 years – is now under the auspices of the Tūpuna Maunga Authority, which has no long-term budget for the needed repairs. The cost of the work was estimated at

close to $250,000 in 2022, but with costing done without a detailed engineering report. Failing to carry out necessary upkeep would result in a blowout of deferred maintenance to more than $500,000, says a 2021 Auckland Council asset assessment. To page 5
