Iwi seeks council okay for 44-home project
A “pocket community” of 44 homes for Navy personnel is planned in Bayswater. Under plans lodged with Auckland Council, the development on Portsmouth St, off Roberts Rd, would be built for the Defence Force by landowner Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. An “integrated housing proposition”– a
group of homes, from two to four bedrooms, was the aim for the cul-de-sac, the iwi said in a consent application. The land, at 1-8 Portsmouth St, is now vacant and fenced. Previously, it had older-style stand-alone state homes. Similar homes on nearby streets are cur-
