Licensing decision leaves Takapuna dry after 1am A Takapuna sports bar’s failed bid for later opening hours has reinforced 1am as the latest closing time allowed for the town centre. The Takapuna Residents Association (TRA) and police were among 17 objectors to an application by Cousin Scott’s bar on Lake Rd to be allowed to open at 8am and
trade until 2am, extending the 9am to 1am licence it has held since late 2024. Initially, the bar sought the ability to open late seven days a week, but later cut this back to Wednesday to Saturday. At an Auckland District Licensing Committee hearing in February, bar owner
Scott Ruddock said the intention was not to increase late-night drinking, but to fit with the timing of international sports events. Ruddock committed to ensuring any bands would continue to stop playing at 12.30am, introduce a one-way door policy To page 2
