(Revolutionary War Fort)
605 Reynolds Street
The site of a pivotal Revolutionary War siege. Originally Fort Augusta, it was seized by the British in 1779, renamed Fort Cornwallis, and reclaimed by Patriot forces in 1781. The churchyard contains graves of Revolutionary soldiers and a surviving cannon from the era.

This monument along Greene Street honors Georgia’s three Declaration of Independence signers: George Walton, Button Gwinnett, and Lyman Hall. Walton and Hall are buried here, recognizing Augusta’s role in the birth of American democracy.

Built in 1845, the canal powered Augusta’s industrial growth. Today, visitors can walk or bike the trail, explore interactive exhibits, or take a guided boat tour.
