Breezeway Access to Courtyard

Areas that Need Connection

Site Analysis

The current design library and the rotunda is the “heart”, with the new library purging through it and branching out to become thresholds into the courtyard space. Acting as a BIND, the library ties the College of Design and the surrounding sites together- the courtyard, Pullen Park, the library, and the College of Design itself- including Leazar Hall.

Perspective from Pullen Road

The design effectively draws people into the College of Design and the courtyard, activating these spaces, while connecting all the pieces of the College of Design together.

The library acts as a threshold between the old and the new, the past and future, the quiet and loud. The current design library and rotunda is the traditional library space of bookstacks and quiet spaces, while the two branches represent the library of the futureintegrating technology and social space.
