he pursuit of happiness has always been a preoccupation of the masses but with today’s ever-evolving technology and lifestyles, the tools have changed the chase. Maintaining balance, practicing self-care, and even proactive mental health practices have gone digital, and it couldn’t have come at a better time with a constant onslaught of news and the stress that comes with it.

ou’ll want to keep your eyes on the road mid-January as some of the coolest cars of all make, model, vintage and color can be spotted cruising into Scottsdale. Yep, it’s time for the annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction and auto enthusiasts from around the world are starting their engines!
It’s no secret that the younger generations live online, but all ages take advantage of computers and smartphones for everyday needs like googling a yoga studio or researching a podiatrist. So it’s not a big leap to connecting with applications and even people for strengthening personal growth and healthier habits. We’ve rounded up a few 21st century ways to make your mental health a priority.
It all began in 1967 when friends and fellow car enthusiasts Tom Barrett and Russ Jackson held their first car auction as a local fundraiser in Scottsdale. It soon evolved into a classic car event that would raise the bar and smash records with the sales of such memorable vehicles as the Batmobile and Howard Hughes’ Buick Roadmaster, not to mention the 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake that blew the doors off at $5.5 million in 2007.

The January event famously draw many celebrities, with some putting their own vehicles on the block. Past attendees include Jay Leno, William Shatner, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and former president George W. Bush, plus the late Muhammed Ali and Burt Reynolds.
There are numerous applications available to download directly to your phone so you can get zen when and where you need to. Most of them, like Calm, Simply Being and Oak, offer guided and unguided forms of meditation
The philanthropy of the founders’ original auction is still a pillar of the events. With the sale of 10 charity vehicles in the 2018 Scottsdale auction, BarrettJackson passed the $100 million mark in funds raised for charitable causes. Just a few of the organizations benefiting over the years have included the American Heart Association, MLB Charities and St. Jude’s. The Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auctions have become a world-class event and were recently named the #1 attraction for car enthusiasts by USA Today. Whether you’re a devoted motorhead or just enjoy seeing unique and sleek classic cars and the people who buy them, there’s something under the hood for everyone during Barrett-Jackson week! The auction returns to WestWorld in Scottsdale for nine days, starting Saturday, January 11 until Sunday, the 19th. Hours range from gates opening at 8 AM until close of auctions. Each day includes the following: • Behind the Hobby Collector Car Symposiums • Restoration Row – featuring live vehicle builds and interactive activities • Ford and Chevrolet Ride ‘N Drives and Toyota and Dodge Thrill Rides • Exhibitor & Sponsor Displays • Food Courts Check Barrett-Jackson.com for full schedules, ticket prices and much more.

for beginners and experts, as well as breathing exercises and nature sounds for a restful sleep. Many are free or just a few bucks for your daily ohmmm…
MOOD TRACKERS Many healthcare professionals recommend mood tracking to help patients be more aware of — and improve — their state of mind. That often takes the form of journaling with pen and paper, but finding time isn’t always easy. Luckily, there’s an app for that! Daylio tracks your mood with emojis and videos, while MoodKit offers a place to journal and monitor thoughts and activities. Worry Watch can track your anxieties and help turn them into positives.
THE DOCTOR IS… ONLINE Even though it seems very current, working with a therapist online has been a viable tool for those in the military for 20 years. With today’s technology and the increased comfort level of digital interaction, therapy is quickly bypassing the proverbial couch. It’s also an invaluable resource for those in rural areas, homebound, or lacking in affordable health benefits.
Every successful person in the empowerment industry will tell you that regular meditation is a necessary tool for stilling the mind and reducing stress. Once the habit is ingrained, you’ll find yourself more able to focus and be receptive to new ideas.
Although the founders have since passed on, their legacy continues as the event has expanded to include annual auctions in Palm Beach, FL, Las Vegas, NV and Uncasville, CT. Millions of viewers also attend via live coverage on the Discovery and MotorTrend channels.

Baldassare Forestiere, a Sicilian immigrant, came to America in 1901 to pursue his dreams of becoming a citrus farmer. In Fresno, CA he crafted a subterranean complex of patios, grottoes and garden courts, which was eventually designated a California registered historical landmark.
