Looking to make a career switch? Rather than skimming Indeed for hours, set up specific steps to focus yourself. Instead of “Find a new job,” try: “Identify a career path that will make me happy now … and in 10 years.” The actionable steps could be: Pick a goal month in the calendar and mark that you will have a new job by then (commitment), make an appointment with a career counselor or mentor to freshen up your resume and have her check in with you on weekly progress (accountability), write down 10 careers that sound fulfilling, research how to get those positions, and set up job opening alerts (an actionable plan).
A
new decade demands a new vibe, a reflection of how we live and feel as a society moving into 2020. A new year also brings a new color palette for interior design and fashion around the world. Whether it’s time for a total home transformation or you’re just in need of a few new splashes of color, these are the new hues you’ll be seeing everywhere in 2020. Overall, things seem to be lightening up. Design experts are using color as a way to express optimism for the future. The hues of 2020 are soft and muted, light and airy with a nod to nature as well as a look ahead to a bright future filled with technological advancements. Pink is one of the hottest hues of the new decade. Soft, muted blushes will steal the show in home design. Benjamin Moore named First Light, a pastel pink, its color of the year. Here, pink is reimagined as a new neutral, being featured in living and dining rooms (it’s not just for girls’ bedrooms anymore). Stylists are pairing pink with natural beiges and whites and bursts of gold to keep the hue modern and sophisticated. To add a more masculine touch, use navy and deep greens to balance the look. Benjamin Moore isn’t the only one betting on pink in the new decade. Valspar handpicked a dozen soft and earthy hues for 2020, including Bombay Pink, “a grown-up blush pink that has been accepted as a beloved neutral,” says Valspar Color Strategist Sue Kim, and Crushed Out, an even softer hush pink color with “a soft voice that looks quiet but luxurious at the same time.” The rest of the Valspar palette includes more soft muted pinks, greens, and blues that can be used as neutrals. Move over gray! And, as with most things these days, color is definitely trending gender-neutral with pinks and pale blues finding their way into common areas of the home. Sherwin-Williams is seeing the future a bit more bold and bejeweled, selecting Naval, a deep rich blue, as its color of the year. Saying it creates “a calm and grounding environment infused with quiet confidence,” the dark blue hue sets a fabulous backdrop for earthy greens and browns as well as bright white for contrast. One more color that global color experts expect to see a lot of? Neo-mint, a futuristic color that blends nature and technology in a unique new way that is so 2020.
Prepare for stunning performances of the men and women who are vying to call themselves World Champion Hoop Dancer. This annual Heard Museum event combines artistry, sheer athleticism and cultural traditions to create an exciting, colorful and suspenseful competition.
Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show Scottsdale | Feb. 13-20 ScottsdaleShow.com Enjoy exciting competitions, an international cuisine court and more than 300 vendor booths at the Annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show. Held at Westworld in Scottsdale, it has grown from 50 horses in 1955 to nearly 2400 horses bringing top owners, trainers and breeders from around the world competing for a chance at winning.

Wresolutions? It’s easy to aim high and try to overhaul
ondering how you’re going to stick to those New Year’s
your lifestyle in an instant. But how can you make those piein-the-sky dreams a reality? According to researchers, some 60 percent of us make New Year’s resolutions but only a mere 8 percent actually stick to them. (Even more dispiriting is that most have already abandoned their resolutions by the end of January!) Studies have shown that setting very specific goals can help you be in that 8 percent …and that simply the act of trying to achieve your goal can bring happiness. Here are some tips to get on the right path.
No matter what, don’t overdo it and set yourself up for failure. Don’t sign up for a marathon or try going from a size 14 to a size 4 by summer. Baby steps are the key to reaching your end goal. And, when you do reach minimilestones (finishing a race or landing an interview) reward yourself. This will keep you motivated and keep things fun so you’ll want to stay on track. Here’s to a great new decade!!
First, focus on exactly what you want to achieve. Write down in detail what you want to accomplish or improve upon. So instead of “Get fit” consider “Run a 5K.” Rather than “Lose weight” try “Lose 10 pounds by spring break.” Once you have a specific goal, write down the exact steps you need to make that a reality. For “Run a 5K,” your steps could be: Sign up for a local 5K (commitment), find a running buddy (accountability), and create a running schedule (an actionable plan). Suddenly, what seemed overwhelming (get fit) now
