Delivering Quality Management Services To Investors
SEPTEMBER | OCTOBER 2014
Since 2001 Mark Brower has actively owned and operated companies involved in various real estate investing, brokerage and appraisal activities. While pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business Economics from ASU Mark purchased his first rental property with a partner and began renting it out. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from ASU Mark joined Hogan & Associates and later Commerce Realty Advisors where he brokered over $100 million in land transactions from 2003 to 2007. Mark also formed and operated a residential appraisal company in 2006 offering services in Arizona and California. In 2007 Mark was recruited to start the land brokerage division for Apartment Realty Advisors’ Phoenix office. As the land market declined through 2007 and 2008 Mark saw an increasing opportunity for effective, quality management services. By this time he and his wife had acquired a total of 6 residential rental properties and understood the importance of effective management.
the opera boom
While attending the ASU MBA program in late 2008 Mark began managing residential real estate for clients. In 2011 Mark hired Teri Roe, a veteran property manager with a career of managing thousands of multifamily properties for large investors. Teri has brought a level of expertise and controls that allows the company to offer management

services unequaled by other small residential management companies in town. Mark Brower Properties currently manages over 200 residential assets and, because of their expertise in the industry, was selected in April 2013 as the primary property management company for Fannie Mae foreclosed rental properties in the East Valley. Mark is married with 4 children and has called Mesa home since 1985. He serves actively in his church and is a member of NARPM (National Association of Residential Property Managers).

LOCAL VENUE Butterfly Wonderland A Rainforest Experience Scottsdale 480.800.3000 | ButterflyWonderland.com Butterfly Wonderland takes flight as one of the newest attractions in the Valley with a highly innovative, indoor rainforest environment featuring the largest butterfly pavilion in America. You’ll be welcomed into a magnificent, lush, rainforest environment where thousands of butterflies from around the world fly freely, alighting on fragrant flowering plants and, quite possibly, on a friendly visitor’s shoulder or finger. Stroll inside this 10,000 square foot atrium and stand in wonder as thousands of butterflies from around the world enchant with their grace and beauty. This dramatic, glass-enclosed atrium shelters a breathtaking rainforest environment with lush tropical plants, trees, waterfalls and a large Koi pond. Among the favorite butterflies to see are the iridescent beautiful Blue Morpho butterflies from the rainforests of South America and the delicate looking Paper Kite butterfly!
Fun fact: There are about 28,000 species of butterflies in the world. In North America, there are about 800 different kinds of butterflies. Arizona is home to 334 species of butterflies, second next to Texas with the most species.
With the weather cooling off and the feel of fall in the air now is the perfect time to bake up some homemade treats for you and your family. Think pumpkin pie, ginger spice cookies, and chocolate torte! Whether you’re in the market for a new high-end oven to complete your dream kitchen or you’re house hunting for a new abode that boasts the ideal appliances, here’s what to look for in today’s top ovens. In no time, you’ll be the best baker in your neighborhood. The first decision is usually whether to choose gas or electric. While many top chefs prefer gas for a cooktop stove, allowing for better and instant heat control, this distinction is not as critical when choosing ovens. However, serious bakers should consider a convection oven, which uses fans to circulate hot air throughout the baking space. This creates the crusty, caramelized breads, muffins, and pies found in the finest of bakeries. Not only will your foods have that full-flavored browned taste, but they will also bake faster and more evenly. No longer will you have to rotate your cookie sheets so each tray browns evenly. In a convection oven, cookies and other sweet treats will cook consistently no matter where they are placed within the oven. One final bonus: You save a lot of time with a convection oven. As a general rule, you can reduce the cooking time by 25 percent and lower the oven temperature by 25 degrees in a convection oven. Just remember to stay close by when getting accustomed to your particular oven, as you will need to gauge how long and how high your oven should be set. Many of today’s top ovens offer an automatic conversion option. Just input the temperature and cooking time of your recipe and the oven will automatically set to the appropriate convection settings. How’s that for foolproof baking? If you’re looking for a professional look to complete your kitchen, Viking is the brand that most gourmets demand. Other high-end options include Wolf, Thermador, Bosch, Jenn-Air, and KitchenAid. So why not whip up an apple pie, berry crumble, or Halloween baked treat for the kids and get your house smelling like fall. Your family will thank you!
YOUR HOME
opera lovers both young and old. Facebook pages and Twitter feeds abound. So if you haven’t given opera a chance, you may want to lend this 400-year-old art form and cultural experience an ear. Turns out, opera is alive and well in America. What is it about opera that people still love? Perhaps it’s the classics, such as La Boheme, The Marriage of Figaro, Carmen, and Madame Butterfly, which seem to enthrall and mystify audiences after so many centuries. They are still the most popular and most frequently performed operas, reaching new audiences with every production. But original operas are also being produced with some regularity. In fact, some 359 new operatic works have been produced since 2000. Some current themes of new operas include telling the stories of Jackie Kennedy, Malcolm X, and Harvey Milk. But most likely what makes
opera such a fascinating and unique art form is the ability of the performer to both sing and act to portray their character like no other way imaginable. Not to mention the incredible set designs and costumes. The current opera trend? Live simulcast of opera performances from the Metropolitan Opera, New York’s most revered opera house. The live performances are transmitted via satellite to select venues such as movie theaters throughout the country. While some expect this accessibility to gain new followers, others fear even seasoned opera fans may skip heading out to the opera house altogether for this easier and far less costly experience. Perhaps only time will tell. Either way, fall is the perfect time to discover your local opera house (or look for listings from the Met’s simulcast) and enjoy this incredible art form. Bravo to you for trying something new!

Fluttering, flittering, flying
The fall air ushers in a new season of the arts and world of opera is no exception. But if you’re thinking that opera is an old world relic favored by a few timeworn fanatics, think again. Some 125 opera companies currently perform in 43 states, in cities as varied as Phoenix, Houston, Los Angeles and Santa Fe, according to OPERA America. Even more impressive is that more than half of these companies were established after 1970, and more than 40 percent were founded since 1980, suggesting a growing rather than waning interest. It may surprise you to know that some 2.3 million people went to the opera in 2013 alone (source: statista.com). The Internet is chock full of web sites catering to
