Overall, things seem to be lightening up. Design experts are using color as a way to express optimism for the future. The hues of 2020 are soft and muted, light and airy with a nod to nature as well as a look ahead to a bright future filled with technological advancements. Pink is one of the hottest hues of the new decade. Soft, muted blushes will steal the show in home design. Benjamin Moore named First Light, a pastel pink, its color of the year. Here, pink is reimagined as a new neutral, being featured in living and dining rooms (it’s not just for girls’ bedrooms anymore). Stylists are pairing pink with natural beiges and whites and bursts of gold to keep the hue modern and sophisticated. To add a more masculine touch, use navy and deep greens to balance the look. Benjamin Moore isn’t the only one betting on pink in the new decade. Valspar handpicked a dozen soft and earthy hues for 2020, including Bombay Pink, “a grown-up blush pink that has been accepted as a beloved neutral,” says Valspar Color Strategist Sue Kim, and Crushed Out, an even softer hush pink color with “a soft voice that looks quiet but luxurious at the same time.” The rest of the Valspar palette includes more soft muted pinks, greens, and blues that can be used as neutrals. Sherwin-Williams is seeing the future a bit more bold and bejeweled, selecting Naval, a deep rich blue, as its color of the year. Bake at 375° F for 7 to 8 minutes for chewy cookies or 9 to 10 minutes for crispy cookies.
