Coach Fred Mann is now in his 11th year as the girls’ varsity coach for Perry High School where he also works as a guidance counselor. Coach Mann came to Perry from Mountain Pointe High School where he coached both boys and girls volleyball. Over a 20-year span at Mountain Pointe, Mann coached teams to a combined 8 state championships and 3 runners-up. As head coach at Perry High School, the program has a record of 291 Wins and 75 Losses. The team has qualified for the playoffs every year since 2013 and was the state runner-up in both 2019 and 2020, with semi-final appearances in 2017, 2018, and 2022.
Coach Mann was born and raised in South Africa where he developed a love for volleyball playing both indoor and beach volleyball. He played outside hitter at the University of Port Elizabeth and played on the South African Beach Tour. Mann is also the head girl’s beach volleyball coach at Perry High School who won a State Championship in 2018 and was the state runner up in 2019.
Over a 30-year span coaching high school and club volleyball, Coach Mann has imparted his passion and knowledge of volleyball to thousands of players. Perry High School has become a premier destination for volleyball players ranking number 1 in AZ and number 13th in the nation in 2022 for D1 athletes on college rosters. In his spare time Coach Mann loves to ride his dirt bike, a hobby his wife Angie fully supports. Coach Mann has been married to his wife Angie for 31 years and they have 3 children.
Brian and Nicole Wagner: Brian started his volleyball career in 1996 as a high school freshman under Coach Mann. In 1999 his Mountain Pointe team won the Arizona State Championship, and he was named state “Player of the Year”. Following high school, Brian went on to play college volleyball at Loyola Marymount and then Pepperdine where he was part of two “Final Four” teams and was coached by Volleyball Hall of Famer Marv Dunphy. After graduating in 2003, Brian and Nicole were married, and they relocated to Arizona and began coaching high school and club volleyball. As assistant coaches, Brian and Nicole have been part of two boys state championship teams and two runner-up teams as well as three girls state runner-up teams. Nicole has

I can’t believe this is the year. This is the year I have been looking forward to since I was young. The fact that it is actually here and happening is insane. I have made so many friendships through this program, who I wouldn’t trade for the world. High School has had its challenges, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the people who were with me every step of the way. Perry will forever hold some of the best and most-exciting moments in my life. I have learned so much about how to handle tough situations with grace, how to be a leader on and off the court and most of all, gained an appreciation for the fact that everything happens for a reason. To all my coaches, administrators and teachers - thank you for all you’ve done for me. To my parents - I can’t thank you enough for everything! You both have sacrificed so much for me and my brothers, and I hope you understand how grateful we are. I would be nowhere without the two of you … the endless hours supporting my recruiting journey, the financial investment just for me to have a shot at my dream (with which you probably could have bought a yacht), the late night study sessions, the long days and weekends at tournaments, and your constant support, always. Thank you guys for having my back through thick and thin. I can’t wait to start the next chapter of my life at Utah Tech University, but I am so sad that this one is coming to an end. Thank you Perry Volleyball for giving me friends and memories that will last a lifetime. Once a Puma, always a Puma.
Noodle, After you finished your first season of volleyball at 6 years old, you told us emphatically that you never wanted to play another sport. You knew what you wanted … then and now. From the beginning of this ride, you have always believed in yourself. During times when many would have packed it in, you only worked harder, asked the tough questions, learned the hard lessons. There are no words to describe how blessed we are to be your parents. Witnessing your journey and providing guidance where needed is an absolute honor and we cannot wait to see all that you make of your life, on and off the court. Volleyball often gets the spotlight, but we could not be prouder of the person you are. The way you care for your relationships, your grit when life throws you a curveball and the way you work for what you want fills us with constant pride. Our wish for you is that you never stop dreaming. Continue to know your worth, bring joy to others and always make a positive difference in the world around you. Control the controllables and let the rest be – from that place is where real happiness lies … which is all we could ever want for you. Have courage and be kind, and you’ll always find your way. We love you Noodle! Love, Mom, Dad, Mason & Austin
Barely in seventh grade, I remember walking into the Perry gym and being so intimidated by not only the size but the players and coaches themselves. When freshman year started, I was still intimidated by everything and everyone around me like it was still the first time. Now looking back many years later, I would have never thought I would consider this place and the people around me family. Perry season is the season I look forward to during the year while we are in club. When it’s here, I cherish every moment I’m able to have, more now than ever. Little things that I took for granted are now forever in my memory. With the Monday dinners, the hilarious team sleepover, after-Saturday burritos and so much more. from the friends who taught me how to live life, stuck with me through some of the hardest times, and always made me feel better about the day when I didn’t have a good outlook on it. I’m going to miss it all more than I ever thought I would. So, thank you to Mann for creating the space here that helped us create these friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you to my Grandparents who support me in everything I do and show me continuous love and grace. My parents for being the people I get to look up to, giving me life advice, being my best friends, and making me laugh harder than anyone could ever make me. I will always look back on how incredible the Perry program is and how much it changed my life. I will forever be grateful for once and always being a Perry Puma.
To Our Reese, No words will ever do justice how proud we are of you. Over the years, you have been dedicated to be the best version of yourself while never wavering or sacrificing your integrity and beliefs. Before entering Perry High School, you had objectives and goals. Although some fell short, it did not stop your relentless desire to always do better, on and off the court. This volleyball journey has given you so many life lessons, frustrations, experiences, joy, and pain. Our prayer is that you can use these as building blocks as a collegiate athlete. You have just started writing your life story and while this prelude might be coming to an end, we are so excited about what the next chapter will bring! Always remember who you are and what you have to offer. Inspire and lead with integrity and purpose. Always strive to make those around you better through humility and approachability but never sacrifice your rooted values. “We love you to the moon and back / love you more / no way / impossible – love you unconditionally!” Dad and Mom
As a child all I ever wanted to was to grow up and be an adult. Now as it gets closer and closer, it feels like I want to opposite. Part of this reason is because I realize I will have to part ways with my best friends. For this I have Perry Volleyball to thank for bringing me closer to such amazing people. Some of my best memories have been because of Perry Volleyball. Laughing until we cannot breathe anymore and singing our hearts out in the locker room. Even when I would not be having a good day, somehow I would always leave the gym with a smile on my face. Perry Volleyball has taught me so many valuable lessons that I will carry with my for the rest of my life. Working together as a team, pushing myself past my limits, and how to get through hard times. I leave high school knowing I am ready for the real world, thanks to the lessons I have learned here from amazing coaches and amazing teammates. Most importantly I would like to thank my parents for everything that they have done for me. From the YMCA, to 12 years later my mom has always been a great coach and without her I would not be where I am today. Thank you for always giving me great advice and being an amazing role model. Thank you too my dad for always putting a smile on my face and believing in me no matter what. I am so grateful to call you mom and dad. Thank you too my siblings for making every day interesting and always making me laugh. Thank you to Brooke, Reese, Kate, Ireland, and Nicole, for being my best friends for the past 4 years. I don’t know what I would do without you. I love you guys.
Delaney Isabella! Doodle Dots, we blinked and you are now a senior! You made us parents and have forged the way for your siblings and are an amazing big sister! Your intrinsic drive to succeed and your ability to conquer obstacles and embrace the unknown is truly impressive. You’re strong, but kind, a fierce competitor, but a supportive friend and teammate. You are not afraid of challenges and you set high standards for yourself on and off the court. Your journey to where you are today was paved with dedication to hard work, sacrifice, and resilience. We are incredibly inspired by your success! The life skills this amazing game has taught you provided you with a tool box that will serve you well as you embark on this next step in your academic and volleyball career. You have been so fortunate to have an incredible support network of talented coaches and talented teammates. Always remember to be grateful for those that paved the way for your success. We are so excited to cheer you on in your last year as a Puma and next year as a Golden Eagle! Keep pushing forward, soak up the long days ahead with your teammates now and in the future because the years will be quick! Keep putting in the work, stay humble, and always believe in yourself. We will be here cheering you on every step of the way! We love you DIG! Love, Mom, Dad, Ella, Sophia, and Sauce
As a freshman, I couldn’t wait to become a senior, eager to graduate. Now, as a senior, I find myself wishing every day that time would slow down so I could savor just one more moment. Each Perry season has served as a reminder that another year has passed. Although each year brought new responsibilities and changes, the Perry season remained a constant, filled with familiar faces and enduring motivations. This program gave me a home and molded me into someone who values trust and teamwork above all. I’m immensely grateful for the experiences I’ve had as a Puma. Thank you to my teammates, who helped me create memories that I’ll cherish for a lifetime. Thank you to the coaches for pushing me and guiding me as a volleyball player. A special thank you to my beautiful mother, who was always there for me in the toughest times, and to my amazing father, who never gave up on me and continually lifted my spirits. Lastly, thank you to my brother, who, even from across the country, offered guidance throughout my high school years. Ultimately, this program has bestowed upon me the gift of unconditional love, and I will forever be proud to be a Puma.
Dear Nicole, When we began this journey 12 years ago, our aim was simple: we wanted you to get some exercise and become stronger. Little did we know that this game would help you achieve so much more. Along the way, you’ve allowed us to be part of your incredible journey, and we’ve watched you mature into the amazing young woman you are today. Also, we are beyond thrilled that you will be continuing your passion for volleyball at Swarthmore College, one of the nation’s elite academic institutions. We also want to take a moment to celebrate not only your academic achievements but also your exceptional dedication and passion for volleyball. Your love for the game has always been evident. It’s been an absolute joy and privilege to cheer for you from the sidelines, sharing in your triumphs and supporting you through challenges. Beyond the court, what has truly touched our hearts is your diligent preparation for practices, games, and academics, both mentally and physically. Your servant leadership, camaraderie, and the respect you show for teammates and opponents alike speak volumes about your character. Nicole, always remember that life, much like volleyball, will have its ups and downs. But with your strength and determination, we have no doubt that you’ll continue to rise above challenges and achieve great things. With all our love, Mom and Dad
I can’t believe my time at Perry is almost over. Perry volleyball has been a big part of my life since I was 7 years old when my parents and Coach Mann decided to come coach here. I have spent a lot of time over the past 10 years in this gym and have made so many special memories here. When I was a little girl, I dreamed of the day I would get to put on one of those jerseys and compete in a big match with the stands full, people cheering and yelling, and play the sport I love with my future friends. I wanted to be just like all the girls I looked up to and I am so grateful that I got to be around so many amazing girls. I want to say thank you to my parents and Coach Mann for bringing me and Ev to every practice and match, letting me keep score at practice and be a small part of those teams until it was finally my turn to play. Thank you to my parents for always encouraging me and pushing me to grow and learn. Thank you for always giving me so many opportunities and for always believing in me. Thank you to my brothers for coming to all of my games and tournaments. Thank you for always making me laugh and smile. You guys are the best brothers anyone could ask for and I am so blessed to have you all as my family. Thank you to all my grandparents for all your support and love and for watching so many of my games in person and online. I also want to thank Lex, Ryann, Tolman, and Kale. Thank you Tolman for making me laugh and teaching me so much my freshman year. Thank you, Ryann, for always being there to give me a hug and for being there to talk to ever since you played at Perry. Thank you, Kale, for always encouraging me and wanting to talk and check in on me. Lex, you have been the big sister I always wanted. Thank you so much for always being there for me when I need you, for giving the best advice, and for the many coffee runs. I love you all so much and am so thankful for everyone who has been a part of my volleyball career. Lastly, I’d like to thank Coach Mann for pushing me to get better everyday and thank you for making Perry the special place I’ve been able to call my home for the last 10 years. I am so grateful that I’ve been able to play here and am so grateful for all the people that have been a part of my journey. I can’t believe it’s almost over.
Kate, When we first came to coach at Perry when you were 7 years old, this moment felt like a lifetime away. It’s wild that we are now here. Words cannot express how proud we are of the person you have become. You are intelligent, kind and others-focused. You work hard to see the best in people and you are easy to talk to. For your entire life, people around you have been able to rely on you as a steadfast friend. Your volleyball journey has been an adventure. It’s not easy to be a coach’s kid, but your faith in yourself and your love for this beautiful game has kept you driven and hungry. Life is not about the easy road. On the easy road, you don’t grow. Toughness is not granted to those who never face adversity. And make no mistake, you are tough. It shows on the court in your cool demeanor, your ability to execute under pressure and the way you encourage your teammates. It has been a pure joy not just to watch you play, but to watch you work so hard on your craft. The skills you have developed as a Puma will serve you well. As you know, God has a perfect and beautiful plan for your life. We will be here to cheer you on every step of the way! Love, Mom & Dad
Now going into my fourth and final year as a Perry Puma, I reminisce on the first day I walked into the gym. Having only played a year and a half of volleyball due to COVID I was new to the sport and was hoping and praying to make the freshman team. Slowly climbing my way through the program over the years, I have learned many valuable lessons and made friendships that will last me a lifetime. I am so grateful for the sport of volleyball for teaching me so many things about life and myself that I otherwise would have never discovered. Volleyball has brought me happiness, memories, struggles, and eye-opening experiences. Without volleyball I would not be the person I am today, and I am so thankful to the sport of volleyball for that. I am thankful to the coaches who have given me countless opportunities and the coaches who haven’t. I have learned many things from many coaches, and I am thankful to each and every one of them. I am extremely grateful for my loving and supporting parents and family, who have been with me through every stage of my life and volleyball career. They have truly seen it all and continued to support me every step of the way, whether it be at my highest, or at my lowest. I love and appreciate them more than they know. I am thankful to every trainer and strength coach that has pushed me to be the best athlete they knew I could be, mentally and physically. I am especially grateful for the girls who have been by my side through the last four years. Without them I do not know where I would be, and the memories I have made with them will stick with me forever. They are not just friends, they are family, and I wish each and every one of them the best of luck in their collegiate volleyball career. I love them all dearly and will cherish every moment together with them for the remainder of our senior year. Finally, I am ultimately grateful to the Palm Beach Atlantic coaching staff, Coach Walters and Coach Casey for giving me the opportunity every girl dreams of. I am so excited to start this new chapter in my life and I could not have done it without that freshman girl who walked into Perry’s gym 4 years ago.
We have been there to watch you, celebrate with you, encourage you and hold you. Now we see the beautiful person you’ve grown to be, and we must slowly step into the next chapter of letting go. Enjoy this final year, the first of many steps as you journey on your way. Your future is filled with amazing possibilities. So, chase your dreams, embrace the opportunities. And those times when life gets hard, always remember we will be there when you call. You are a precious gift, and we love you. Love, Mom and Dad (and BroBro too)
On behalf of the Perry Girls Volleyball Booster Club, I would like to thank each of the coach’s dedication to the Perry Girls Volleyball Program. We see how much time and energy they dedicate to this program, on and off the court. They truly care about the success of these girls as individuals.
Thank you to the parents for your support in your daughter’s volleyball journey. We recognize the amount of time and money it takes and how fast it all goes. As boosters, we are moms of seniors and wouldn’t have changed the amount of time we spent watching and being there with our girls. One of our main roles in boosters is fundraising. Thank you to each of the parents who donated money and helped raise money through our Eteam fundraiser. We also appreciate each business that purchased a sponsor banner and/or placed an ad in the program. You all are the reason we can do all the extra’s for these girls.
We look forward to following the success of this program for many years to come. It has been a pleasure to be a part of this program the last 4 years.
