hhh summer is almost here! Now is the perfect time to tweak your home décor for the new season. It’s easy to breathe some fresh air into your interior design with some simple swaps … all without breaking the bank. To transform any space for summer, think light, bright, and airy. While the fall and winter months may allow for adding and layering décor items, spring and summer are all about taking away and lightening the look. Scan your home décor and remove any knick-knacks, fabrics and textiles, and even artwork that feel like winter or fall. Look to pare down heavy dark wood items and replace with light or painted versions. Swap out bulky blankets or throw pillows with light cotton alternatives. And tuck away any items that have a more formal feel to them. Really, less is more as the weather heats up, even when it comes to home design. Next, pick a light fresh color scheme for this summer. Think whites, blues, yellows, greens, and pinks to add a warm-weather vibe. Maybe you have a few glass or white vases, citrus-hued pillow covers, or colorful artwork that fits the bill. Neutral colored linen and cotton fabrics can replace heavy window treatments, bedding, and sofa throws. If you have them, swap out darker patterned rugs with sea grass and jute styles to give your home a more casual, beachy vibe. In the kitchen, use summery tablecloths, placemats, and napkins. While you’re lightening up, consider giving a dark room a fresh coat of pale paint for the summer season. It really is the quickest and least expensive way to change the entire feel of a room. Of course, bringing the outside indoors is the best and easiest way to add seasonal style to your home. Whether it’s forsythia branches in the spring or hydrangeas cut from the bushes outside your front door, adding a bit of mother nature always amps up seasonal appeal. Come fall, look for pussy willow or autumn-colored leafy branches to place in a large glass vase. By winter, swap it up with evergreen cuttings and white poinsettias. Cut flowers from the store or your own garden will also give your home a special touch. And don’t forget your front door! A seasonal wreath at your entrance and perhaps a cute matching doormat to boot will welcome your guests in style every month of the year.

If you’re a casual shutterbug looking to up your game, check out these basic tips to make your photos look like they were taken by a pro. 1) CONSIDER COMPOSITION – This is a fundamental skill for any photographer, regardless of the camera you’re using. Before you click the shutter, make sure your frame is clear of fingers obscuring the lens. Take a moment to study your surroundings and find the subject you want to be the focus. Use asymmetry, or unequal visual weight, in your frame to add drama and create interesting lines. If you’re unsure where to begin, try looking at some professional photography and see how it’s staged and what catches your eye.

4) TRY SOMETHING NEW – Remember that practice makes perfect. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different techniques and settings until you get comfortable. Move your camera around, move your subjects around, take a few steps in any direction and see how these small changes create unique shots of the same thing. Review your photos and study what worked for you. Most importantly, have fun! Remember that while there are technical elements that make up an objectively “good” photo, your photography is about your personal style. Capture your memories and your adventures through your distinctive lens.

Transfer to a container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Spoon mixture into ice cream maker and freeze according to manufacturer’s directions. Serve immediately in waffle cones or transfer mixture to covered container and freeze to enjoy later.
