Welcome back to the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium for tonight’s game against Drogheda United. We’d like to take this opportunity to also welcome Kevin Doherty back to the Brandywell along with his staff, players, and the officials and supporters from who have travelled up from Drogheda this evening. You’re all very welcome. I mentioned last week that despite that league winning game, Shelbourne haven’t won at the Brandywell in a good while, so I’ll just keep my mouth shut tonight! Last season Derry & Drogheda had a very well matched few games. There were two 1-1 draws both in Drogheda, and here at the Brandywell we had a 3-1 win for Drogheda, and a 3-0 win for Derry. None of the scorers in that 3-0 win, or either of the 1-1 draws are still at the club by the way. Danny Mullen, Sam Todd, Ronan Boyce and Dom
Thomas have all moved on to four different clubs. In the other game here though, Liam Boyce got the only goal for Derry. The opening goal of the game in fact to put them 1-0 up, but on the down side, he was also booked 5mins before the goal and 5mins after the goal and was sent off. Drogehda capitalised by scoring 2 goals within 4mins of the red card and finished the game off in the 86th minute with their third. Let’s hope for a more positive result tonight though. We need it! Enjoy the game!

MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGER
I’d like to welcome Kevin Doherty and his players and staff to the Brandywell this evening for what will be our last game here until the summer.
Obviously we’ve been looking forward to the new pitch being laid and I’m sure the players are excited to see work getting started in the coming weeks. We had a bit of a mixed bag last weekend with defeat against Shelbourne on Friday followed by a draw at Inchicore on Monday night. There’s clearly plenty of work still to be done but we now have a chance to build on an improved performance against St Pats before we head into the International break. I have little doubt that Drogheda will prove an equally tough nut to crack tonight and they come here on the back of a battling draw of their own against Shamrock Rovers. We know what to expect from our visitors- they’ll be very well organised and try

to hurt us on the counterattack and so we’ll need to be patient.

Several players are working their way back from injury at the minute- Dipo Akineymi, Darragh Markey and Cameron Dummigan in particular and while they’re not quite fully up to speed yet, that does give us a few more options now.
It’s very early days yet of course and there is a vast amount of football to be played between now and the start of November, however three points tonight would be a good way to go into the break.
On the downside, Brian Maher is going to be missing for several more weeks as he requires surgery on his hand injury. Brian is a huge loss for ushe’s right up there with any keeper in the countryhowever Eddie Beach is
