Welcome back to the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium for tonight’s game against Shelbourne. We’d like to take this opportunity to also welcome Joey O’Brien back to the Brandywell along with his staff, players, and the officials and supporters from who have travelled up from Drumcondra this evening. You’re all very welcome. This is the second time this season we’ve played on Friday the 13th! Hopefully it’s not a bad omen for us! The last one was a draw though in fairness, but we did require a 98th minute penalty against Dundalk to get that point! Shelbourne fans will have great memories of winning the league at this ground in 2024, but they weren’t been able to retain their title last season and haven’t managed to get a win at the Brandywell since that famoud Harry Wood 85th min-
ute league winner in 2024. In fact, that win was their only win in all competitions at the Brandywell since April 2022 when they came back from behind to earn a 2-1 win. Before that win was a 1-0 win back in 2012, so they’re not exactly prolific here at the Brandywell, but we need to be on our game to keep those Shels wins in the rarity. They’re still a very dangerous team to play against and have some of the best players in the league in their ranks. It’s sure to be a great game anyway! Enjoy the match!

MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGER
I’d like to welcome the management, players and staff of Shelbourne FC to the Brandywell this evening, at the start of what is a very busy week. As always, three games in seven days will bring their own challenges, however we’re thinking about nothing else right now other than matters at hand. We know we’re coming into the game on the back of a disappointing night at Tallaght last Friday and we have to be completely focused on putting that behind us. It was a poor night for us and we’re well aware of that, but it’s just as important now that we show the right reaction. There’s an honesty about this group of players and no-one hurt more than them last weekend. We know that our fans spend a lot of time and money following us up and down the country and that is something that motivates the group to be better.

We’ve prepared well this week and it’s probably no bad thing that we have a run of games now to focus on. You’ll also have seen this week that Michael Duffy won the Player of the Month award for February and I want to congratulate him on that. He’s a very proud Derryman and like the rest of us he’s desperate to bring success to this club. While I understand the frustration that losing games brings, I fervently hope that our supporters get right behind the players tonight, and going forward.
Your support is vital and we’ve seen before how things can change very quickly with a few positive results. There is plenty to look forward to over the coming weeks and months with the move to Celtic Park, the new Brandywell pitch and a European venture all to come.
