Welcome back to the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium for tonight’s game against Waterford! We’d like to take this opportunity to also welcome Jon Daly back to the Brandywell along with his staff, players, and the officials and supporters from who have travelled up from Waterford this evening. You’re all very welcome. Waterford are yet to get a win this season after draws against Shelbourne and Sligo and a loss away to Drogheda, but they’ve always been a side that can get a result, as proven by last season. The two sides played four times, Waterford won two and Derry City won two, including the 7-2 scoreline back in July here at the Brandywell. The transfer window has closed and we’ve recruited Barry Cotter into the squad which should solve the right back issues we’ve been having
of late. There’s never been so many names on the squad list in the centre pages! We’ve got the strength and depth to form a good challenge this season if the squad can gel now. We need to stop conceding goals and we need to take more of the chances we create. Sounds easy, but takes a lot of time and practice! If we can get back to winning ways tonight it’ll set us up well for the touch test against Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght next week. But we can’t look past the next 90mins. Enjoy the game tonight.

MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGER
I’d like to welcome our supporters to tonight’s game, as well as the management, players and fans of our visitors from Waterford.
This is obviously our fourth successive home game of the season and after a win and a draw in the first two, we were gutted with defeat to Bohs last weekend. Every football manager on the planet will tell you that losing matches hurts, and that is very much the case for me and for this group. Some of our supporters showed their disappointment as well, and of course they were fully within their rights to do so.
In our three games so far, including last Friday, there were signs of some things starting to take shape, and I have no doubt whatsoever that there are better times ahead.
It wasn’t the performance that any of us wanted, and we spent quite a bit of time going over several aspects of the game at the weekend.
We have strengtened our defensive options over the past few days with Barry Cotter coming in to bolster the right side.
What we cannot do however is beat ourselves up over a defeat, but rather show the character to respond to it.
Both Eddie and Shea, our new goalkeepers, have had another week working within the squad as they cover for Brian, and I felt both did well in their respective games.
We have assembled a group of players at this club who are capable of competing with any team in the country and who are desperate for success here.

On a personal note, I completely understand that criticism comes my way with
defeat, and that’s fine. Anyone who knows me will know it just makes me more determined to make things better for the many good people around this club. Waterford will be a tough nut to crack tonight as always and they will provide another, albeit different threat. We will be ready for that and will give everything we have to get back to winning ways.
Tiernan Lynch, Manager
