Welcome back to the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium for the first game of the 2026 SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division Season! We’d like to take this opportunity to also welcome John Russell back to the Bradywell along with his staff, players, and the officials and supporters from who have travelled up from Sligo this evening. We got off to a good start to the season last week by winning the President’s Cup in Tallaght against Shamrock Rovers. You can say it’s just a friendly, but at the end of the day, it’s a game between the two bookie’s favourites for the league this season and neither team is going to take it easy. It’s a game that sets down a marker and shows a signal of intent for the start of the season. But we’re getting the start of the real competitive games
here tonight as the league kicks off against Sligo Rovers. The first of four home games in a row. Sligo won 1-0 in a pre-season friendly behind closed doors on the 9th of January with a former Candystripe Will Fitzgerarld with the goal. Last season Derry won 3 of the 4 meetings with Sligo winning the other, but there were no 0-0 draws, so we should see goals tonight anyway! It’s great to be back! Enjoy the game!
