Interfaith Community Services (ICS) Impact Report Article submission forwarded by Karen Gove
Big Changes at the Marana Food Bank Article submission by Brian Bell
The Marana Food Bank has a new operational organization effective December 1, 2023. The Southern Arizona Food Bank announced in October that they were going to close the Marana Food Bank on January 1 The plan is to move to a once-a-month mobile distribution model by distributing food from their semi-trailers at various parking lots. The City of Marana, the Mayor and the City Council, Pima County and Trico Electric got together to form a new Marana Food Bank Cooperative in the same location as before. The Mayor of Marana reached out to the Mayor of Sahuarita about the successful operation of their Food Bank. The introduction has lead to a partnership between the Sahuarita Food Bank and the new Marana Food Bank. This relationship will allow the Marana Food Bank to continue to operate seamlessly in the community. Additional benefits will lead to a Community Resource Center addressing the causes of hunger through education, workforce development, and coaching and human services. The Southern Arizona Food Bank will still provide the food to Marana and they will handle the final phase, which is distribution to the Food Bank clients. Donations: For those folks wishing to donate, please send donations directly to the Marana Food Bank at the address below. This helps the new center and keeps the money in the community. Volunteers: For those folks wishing to donate their time to helping distribute food you can contact Luissel Palma at 520-697-0022.
I have been volunteering at the food bank since March of 2020 and each time I work I see increased numbers of families and individuals who need grocery support each month.
Many thanks to the DWDM Community for donating to the Fall Food drive the month of October. This allowed ICS to collect seasonal foods to give clients a special holiday meal. High Level Stats from 2023: As the year draws to a close, we're looking back on the amazing partners, volunteers, donors, and clients who made fiscal year 2023 the best one yet for ICS. A few highlights: ICS served 60,602 people in Pima County. That's more than any past year and represents a 66% increase in reach since 2018. 22,579 Mobile Meals were delivered to older and disabled adults. In-kind donations brought in 1,283,966 pounds of food, allowing ICS food banks to distribute a total of 2.3 million pounds of food to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. 840 volunteers gave a total of 62,669 hours of their time to serve our community. Feed My Starving Children Tucson will once again be hosting a mobile pack for Feed My Starving Children to address hunger among the world’s children. This year’s goal is 1.4 million meals and lots of volunteers are needed. The event is scheduled for February 5-10, 2024, and will be hosted on the Oro Valley Church of the Nazarene Campus at 500 W. Calle Concordia, Oro Valley, AZ 85704. Similar to last year, we’d like to organize a group of interested Del Web Dove Mountain residents to volunteer together for a shift on Tuesday, Feb. 6th from Noon-2pm. How You Can Get Involved in State Policy Making Article submission by Brian Bell and Pat Dion
When I moved to Del Webb in 2017 to begin the next chapter in my life, I began following Arizona politics to learn about my new home. I read the newspaper and followed stories online. I learned about the unique Request to Speak (RTS) system that is used to communicate with our LD17 state senator and representatives. No party affiliation is required. Once registered, the system is available to every Arizonan. The RTS system is designed for a person to respond online, from the comfort of their home, to proposed legislation that is currently under consideration. The Del Webb interest group, the Civic Responsibility Alliance (CRA), has made the access to the process available for all Del Webb residents on their website at cradwdm.orq. STEP 1: Go to the CRA website, click on the signup for RTS. You will be directed to the Civic Engagement Beyond Voting website to "get an RTS Account." Fill out the form and you will get a verification email that your request is being processed. STEP 2: It can take them a week to 10 days to complete your registration. Once you get a response
with your access confirmation you can begin communicating on the proposed State Legislature Bills. The next session starts on January 8, 2024 and goes for 100 days. Civic Engagement Beyond Voting has a number of RTS Training Opportunities that you can sign up for. You can also learn more at azleg.gov the legislative website. I'm using my RTS account regularly while the legislature is in session. If you want to participate in Arizona State Government please give RTS a look and sign up now to be ready for the 2024 session.

Slide a patio door Are you spraying your forehands all over the court? You may be using a stroking motion that is too circular. If that’s the case, the slightest error in timing can cause the ball to fly off your racquet at an extreme angle. You can improve your accuracy by swinging so that your racquet strings face the intended target area across the net for as long as possible before and through contact with the ball. Try laying back your hand and wrist slightly as you make your stroke – much as you would if you were sliding open a patio door. You’ll find it much easier to keep your racquet head traveling along a straighter, truer path through contact with the ball. The result will be increased accuracy.

The master bedroom is one of the first places burglars look after entering a house. Master bedrooms are typically easy to access, which is part of the charm for burglars. Take a quick inventory of what you keep in your master bedroom. Is there jewelry, electronics, cash, or credit cards? Anything of value that can easily be moved should be relocated to somewhere unexpected. And what’s more unexpected than jewelry in the laundry room? Or an emergency fund stashed in your bathroom? Few criminals would think to check for valuables in these places. Doing the unexpected can save you in the long run.
