EMPOWERING WOMEN

Kanwal Trehan

ENTREPRENEURS

TO LEAD WITH COURAGE

Kanwal Trehan is a Canadian entrepreneur, executive coach, and founder of sheBIZ, a leadership platform dedicated to helping women step into confident, strategic CEO roles. Based in the Lower Mainland, she has spent nearly two decades building businesses, mentoring founders, and supporting women entrepreneurs across industries.

Her journey began in 2009 with The Soirée Company, an event production firm known for elegant weddings and impactful corporate gatherings. She later expanded into retail with chique boutique and founded Savvy Professionals, a strategic business support agency offering fractional executive and operational services to growing companies.

Through these ventures, Kanwal developed a clear understanding of what many women entrepreneurs experience: ambition without adequate support, growth without sustainable systems, and success that often comes at a personal cost.

This realization led to the creation of sheBIZ.

Through signature programs such as the CEO Blueprint and the sheBIZ Collective, Kanwal equips women with practical strategy, operational clarity, and leadership development tools. Her work bridges mindset and measurable business growth, helping women transition from overwhelmed founders to empowered CEOs.

Kanwal is an ICF Certified Trauma-Informed Coach, speaker, and facilitator She integrates evidence-based coaching practices with real-world business strategy, ensuring that growth is not only profitable but sustainable and aligned.

Today, her vision is to build sheBIZ into a leadership ecosystem that fosters economic empowerment, mentorship, and executive visibility for women. Through education, community partnerships, and public speaking, she continues to advocate for women leading boldly and building businesses that reflect both purpose and profitability

This Women’s Day, her message is clear: when women are equipped with the right tools and supported in their leadership, entire communities thrive.

Ray Win Cote

or many families in South Delta, finding childcare that feels safe, nurturing, affordable, and truly community focused can be a daunting task. For local entrepreneur Ray Win Cote, meeting that need has become both a passion and a purpose, growing into a successful business rooted in the community it serves. Ray Win is the owner of Sunny Town Learn and Play Childcare Centre, a locally owned and operated organization that continues to expand alongside the families who rely on it. The organization now includes Sunny Town South, Sunny Town North, and the soon to open Sunny Town Village, set to launch later this spring in Ladner With a strong emphasis on play based learning and whole child development, Sunny Town has become a trusted name for parents throughout Tsawwassen and greater South Delta.

“I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this community,” Cote says, noting the importance of providing children with a loving and supportive environment. Sunny Town is guided by the belief that children learn best through play, exploration, creativity, and meaningful social interaction. Classrooms are designed to spark curiosity, encourage independence, and foster values such as kindness, cooperation, and sharing. Programs are hands on and engaging, supporting children’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development in age appropriate ways, while offering a wide range of activities including music, sports, art, dance, language learning, mindfulness, sensory play, and outdoor exploration.

Ray Win credits Sunny Town’s success to its dedicated staff and the trusting relationships built with families. As Sunny Town continues to grow, its mission remains focused on providing safe, stimulating, and loving spaces where children and community can flourish. REALTOR

Natalie Mordaunt

There are some things in my life that I am deeply proud of and at the top of that list are my children.

I am the mother of three incredible young women and watching them grow into who they are today has been the greatest privilege of my life. They are kind, strong, thoughtful, independent , and each so beautifully themselves. Raising daughters has shaped so much of who I am how I lead, how I show up, and how I move through the world. I’m also the mom of a son who stole my heart the moment he was born. Together, my four children are, without question, my greatest accomplishment.

I feel incredibly grateful for this community. I grew up here. I raised my family here. My roots run through these streets, these schools, these parks, and these neighbourhoods. Some of my favourite memories live right here long walks, school dropoffs, dinners in our favourite local restaurants, and bumping into friends I’ve known since elementary school. It’s the everyday moments that end up meaning the most.

There is something very special about South Delta. It’s not just where we live it’s how we live. It’s neighbours who look out for one another, familiar faces at the grocery store, and a feeling of belonging that you don’t find everywhere.

I’m proud of the life I’ve built and the work I get to do. I spent over 20 years building a business in marketing, helping organizations communicate, connect , and grow. That chapter taught me how to listen, how to guide people through important decisions, and how to lead with both strategy and heart.

Today, I bring all of that experience into my work as a realtor but what I do now feels much more personal.

I specialize in working with downsizers, empty nesters, and people going through major life transitions the ones that come with layers of emotion, history, and sometimes uncertainty Very often, I’m working with women who are carrying the weight of these decisions mothers, widows, daughters helping their parents women who are holding families together while also trying to make thoughtful, practical choices for the future.

These aren’t just transactions. They’re life moments.

I spend a lot of time at kitchen tables, listening to stories about where people have come from, what matters to them, and where

they hope to go next. I help them sort through not just the logistics, but the emotional weight that can come with letting go of a home and stepping into something new

It’s work that requires patience, empathy, and trust and it’s work I feel honoured to do. I don’t take it lightly when someone invites me into that chapter of their life. My work matters deeply to me.

I care about it , and I’m proud of the way I show up for the people who trust me to guide them through big life changes.

What grounds me every day is this:

Being a mother Being part of this community Living a life that feels connected, grounded, and full of people I care about that’s what matters most to me. And it’s those same values that shape the way I show up for my clients and the work I do every day

I feel incredibly lucky to call this place home, and to be surrounded by the people who make it what it is.

Two Delta Women Building a Rural & Remote Supply Chain Solution to Transform Canada

When systems fail to serve the people who need them most , real leaders step forward. That’s exactly what Gwen Martin and Jennifer Crosby have done with the launch of Seawolf Solutions a bold, Indigenous-operated supply chain solution designed to deliver critical goods to rural and Indigenous communities across Canada.

Tired of waiting for change, these two Delta women decided to build it.

Seawolf Solutions is driven by a powerful belief: if Indigenous communities are ever going to experience infrastructure and access equal to the rest of Canada, the solution must be built with them, led by them, and operated by them. Gwen brings a formidable background in warehousing, logistics, and technology She understands how to build efficient , scalable distribution systems that work in the real world. Jennifer brings deep expertise in Indigenous relations, project management , and construction the kind of leadership that turns vision into tangible results on the ground. Together, they are a force.

But Seawolf Solutions is about more than moving freight. It is about ownership. It is about economic empowerment. It is about ensuring that essential goods reach communities consistently, affordably, and with dignity while creating meaningful employment and long-term opportunity within those communities.

In an industry traditionally dominated by large institutions and slow-moving systems, Gwen and Jennifer are proving that determined, values-driven women can redesign the infrastructure from the ground up.

Seawolf Solutions is currently building partnerships with Indigenous leaders, logistics providers, and community stakeholders who are ready to be part of a new model one built on strength, collaboration, and accountability. This is not just a supply chain. It is a movement.

Danielle & Alicia

Coming from a fifth-generation farming family Danielle and Alicia Guichon understand the importance of supporting and buying local produce. In 2001, beginning as the youngest vendors at The Ladner Village Market and carrying only 6-10 items, they eventually took their business to the roadside of Arthur Drive. On Arthur Drive, the girls built a strong following and both point out that ‘our customers want to support local farmers and local businesses from their community.’ Once the girls realized that the community had a strong desire to buy Delta grown crops, while in season, the idea for ‘Backroads’ bloomed.

Moving forward a few years later the want and need for ‘buying local’ is still as strong as ever With the opening of their produce store, Backroads Family Farm Market , which now carries over 100 items, including their own farm fresh eggs, local bread, fresh cut flowers and other novelty goods, the focus remains on supporting local.

Danielle and Alicia now grow over 30 different vegetables and fruit on their farm.

“We love providing fresh local produce for those who seek it and teaching others about it as well. We look forward to seeing you this upcoming season!”

Backroads is open five months seasonally and we are opening for our thirteenth season this May 2026

s a proud resident of South Delta I am thrilled to be a woman excelling in business and I embrace and encourage the presence and success of women in business throughout our fabulous community. Over the past 15 years I have built a solid reputation as a competent and trustworthy expert, who strives to consistently provide the best possible service to all my valued clients. My sole goal as a Realtor is to achieve amazing results for my clients. With this approach my business has been primarily driven by referrals and by word of mouth of exceptional experiences, not by mass marketing. Helping my clients to achieve their real estate goals has allowed many secondary rewards to come along the way, such as achieving status in the Medallion Club in 2025, 2024, and 2020 (awarded to Realtors in the Greater Vancouver who achieve a status within the top 10% based on sales production) and consistently ranking in the top group of Realtors in an office of over 180 agents. I am thrilled to be a woman in business in our fantastic community and I look forward to having a strong presence in South Delta for many years to come!

HOME ORGANIZING

Jennifer IIIsley-Hall

I’ve always known in my heart that I wanted to help people; I just had to find the right way to do it. As it turns out , organizing and managing transitions is how I offer the most relief My name is Jennifer Illsley-Hall, and as a professional organizer and owner of Deliberate Decisions, I see firsthand how the “stuff” in our lives can suddenly become a heavy weight—especially when life is already demanding so much of us.

Many people I meet are simply at their capacity Whether they’re facing a basement untouched for years or navigating a major move, these moments are deeply draining. My team and I step in to reevaluate your space and reset your home, creating a flow that finally allows you to relax and recharge your own batteries. A large part of our heart is with the seniors in our community. Transitioning into retirement living is an emotional journey, and the task of sorting through decades of memories is a significant burden. Often, well-meaning family and friends simply aren’t prepared for the massive scope of such a project. We step in to relieve that pressure, finding “previously loved” items a new home so they find a new life where they are needed

rather than ending up in a landfill.

When it is finally time for the move itself, we handle and coordinate every aspect of the day—from the packing and the move itself to the unpacking and setup of your new space.

When I started this business eight years ago, I wanted to build a team that shared a single, non-negotiable value: making sure people feel heard. I am so proud to work alongside them, as I have watched them carry this mission into every home we are invited into. And honestly, the best part is the genuine friendships we make along the way. I also believe it takes a village, which is why I work closely with partners like realtors, builders, designers, lawyers, executors and occupational therapists. Together, we can serve our community with much more depth and care than we ever could alone.

You don’t have to carry it all by yourself I’m here to help.

“The world is full of tension right now – so what is the point of celebrating International Women’s Day?” Maybe the point is this: To remember you are loved and that your actions matter.

To pause and reflect on the women whose determination and social courage secured the rights and privileges we live with today, and to support local women-led initiatives.

Balbir Gurm, Pardeep Sihota and Mariam Majedi helped launch NEVR: Network to End Violence in Relationships (nevr.org). Sue Gordon started Soroptimist Int of South Delta (southdelta.org), creating opportunities for women and girls. My own small contribution has been to start a free monthly soulcollage®

gathering – a space for reflection, creativity and connection.

If you are struggling, celebrate yourself by reaching out. Asking for help is brave – Crisis Line 604-951-8855. You matter.

The point is not perfection. The point is participation. Celebrate yourself Support local women.

Take one small brave action, because you matter and what you do matters.

The DHCH Foundation is powered by a talented and committed team of women—across both staff and board—who bring their expertise, leadership, and passion to raising funds that ensure our community receives the highest standard of care today and for generations to come.

This year I am celebrating 44 years of working in our family business. I started in 1982 when we were a little shop in the back corner of the building. There was such a limited selection of carpet and vinyl we didn’t need a lot of room, and our office was 2 desks tucked into a small opening against the back wall. Dad, Mom and I worked in the store together I shared a desk with Dad and when he was out on estimates I would set up a Royal typewriter to do my paperwork. I still remember getting an IBM selectric typewriter, total game changer Things have changed so much over the years.

We now have a 3000 square foot showroom filled with a huge selection of area rugs, hardwood, laminate, vinyl plank, cork, vinyl, maintenance products, and of course carpet all available at the very best prices. We now also have computers on every desk, massive game changer!

nternational Women’s Day is a time to celebrate progress toward equality and recognize the work still ahead. This year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain,” reminds us that when we support and invest in women, everyone benefits. Creating opportunities for women and girls strengthens our communities, drives innovation, and helps build a more inclusive future.

Our government continues to advance gender equality through initiatives such as the Women Entrepreneurship Strategy, which expands access to financing and mentorship for women-led businesses. We are also taking action to support women’s participation in the workforce and address gender-based violence.

Here in Delta, we are proud of the many women who lead, serve, and inspire in every field. Their contributions strengthen our community and set an example for the next generation.

This International Women’s Day, let us continue working together to support women and girls and build a stronger, more equal future for all.

WAXING AND NAIL BAR

Michelle Gardner

Body Beautiful Waxing & Nail Bar offers full body waxing, gel & acrylic nails, regular polish and shellac for manicures and pedicures, nail art , lash lift and tinting, ear piercing & more.

Stanley Park, Spring of 1978, was the first time I remember seeing her The water sparkled as it lapped gently against the shore. My young mind, full of romance and fantasy, caught sight of a figure rising from the sea and I exclaimed, “Oh! A mermaid!” My father smiled and said, “Look closer.” I didn’t want to unsee it. She was not a mermaid, but a girl in a wetsuit. Yet almost instantly, disappointment transformed into admiration. “She’s a diver,” I thought. “She’s brave. She can do anything.”

Looking back, that was my first awakening.

Throughout my life, strong women have reflected back different parts of who I am becoming. The common thread is simple. They stand in their power. They lead, sometimes scared, sometimes bold, always determined.

Recently, I read a poem about tending a lighthouse. It spoke of not jumping into the sea to save every passing ship, but of steadying the light. That metaphor stayed with me.

Women are the lighthouse. We are not meant to drift , search, or prove ourselves. We are meant to be the

light. Steady Grounded. Visible. Guiding.

In business, that realization changes everything. Leadership is not about chasing. It is about presence, integrity, and trusting that the right opportunities and the right people will find you when your light is clear

A few years ago, on Christmas Eve, my son paused while helping me wrap presents and said, “I never understood why you worked so hard, but now I see what you’ve created. You can do anything.” In that moment , proud and surprised, I realized my daughter was not the only one watching.

What we build matters. Not just the businesses or the milestones, but the example we leave behind. Because when a woman stands fully in her light , she gives others permission to find their own.

A little bit about me for those of you who don’t know me. I graduated from Blanche McDonald Center in 1989 with my beauty degree and esthetics license. I started my career in a local beauty salon, moved to my first home studio in Boundary bay, then I opened my full service beauty salon in Tsawwassen. Moved from Tsawwassen in 2000 to my Ladner home studio where I have been working ever since. My studio is licensed with the City of

Delta and inspected by Fraser Health Authority One client at a time!

During my 30+ year career I have been very fortunate to meet 100’s of fabulous women, and made some great friends! I love my work, it is very rewarding to make my clients look and feel great! Quality is always guaranteed. For more information on services offered and studio pictures please visit my website www.bodybeautiful.ca.
