Curated by Jack Pam, produced by the Australian Museum of Contemporary Photography and held at Delmar Gallery, this is the first major survey exhibition by Greek photographer Aris Georgiou to be shown in Australia.
Spanning a period of thirty years, the exhibition presents a selection of photographs examining the social world, our built environment and layers of history that are refusing to be forgotten. The body of work explores the possibilities of human endeavour through a powerfully romantic, creative sensibility. Themes of repetition, memory, hope, dreams and love are consistently confronted in Georgiou’s work as they are warped and exploited by the passage of time.
Aris Georgiou (b. 1951) is based in Thessaloniki, Greece. Since 1977 he has exhibited his paintings and photographs at numerous exhibitions, in Greece and abroad. He has produced more than 17 publications of his photography and is seen as a key member in the establishment of the photographic medium in Greece.
