A Message From Head Coach Dr. David Donovan Dear Delbarton Soccer Families, On behalf of the Delbarton School community, our Head of School, Fr. Michael Tidd, O.S.B., and our Athletic Director, Dr. Tony Negrin, it is with great pride and pleasure that I welcome you to our campus and to the annual Delbarton Invitational Soccer Tournament. And what a lineup of competitive soccer we have in store this weekend for the players, coaches, families, and fans of this beautiful game. The lineup of teams promises an excellent standard of play. On display will be the high level of inter-state talent this region of the country has on offer and the tournament will demonstrate the wonderful experience and environment that the high school venue provides the student-athlete. There is nothing like playing the game you love in front of those you love on behalf of the school you love. Thank you for being part of it all. Finally, I would like to extend a special welcome to our New Jersey neighbors, St Augustine Prep as well as to our guests from New York -Chaminade High School – both of whom are perennial soccer powerhouses. These Catholic schools share a calling to educate scholar-athletes in the disciplines of body, mind, and spirit. And as hosts, we hope to live up to the tradition of Benedictine hospitality and to put into practice the virtues of Discipline, Accountability, Teamwork, and Growth which animate and guide our soccer program here at Delbarton. PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS Delbarton School is a Benedictine Catholic independent school for young men in grades 7-12 rooted in the monastic tradition of a strong liberal arts education. The Delbarton Soccer Program was established in 1971 and, since its inception, the program has garnered 13 New Jersey State Championships, 15 Morris County Conference Titles, and 27 North Hills / NJAC Conference Titles. Dr. David Donovan is in his 33nd season as Head Coach. Delbarton soccer players have represented the United States on its Youth National Teams. Alumni have also signed professional contracts with MLS clubs NY Red Bulls, Austin FC, and Sporting KC. Graduates in the last decade have gone on to play at Princeton, Dartmouth, Penn, Villanova, Colgate, Holy Cross, Fordham, Notre Dame, Bucknell, Lehigh, Syracuse, Providence, Howard, Washington and Lee, Williams, Haverford, and Bates.
Chaminade High School was established in 1930 and has been serving the Long Island Community ever since. The school is named after Blessed William Joseph Chaminade, who founded the Society of Mary as a priest working to evangelize post-revolutionary France. Chaminade High School’s 1,700 men study a rigorous co-curricular, liberal-arts curriculum in an atmosphere that emphasizes the development of Christian community and education of the heart. Chaminade’s Soccer Program has won nine Catholic High School Athletic Association State titles. They maintain a competitive schedule each year, competing against the best high school soccer teams in the Greater New York area.
St. Augustine Prep is an independent Augustinean school servicing 812th grades. St. Augustine Prep was founded in 1959 in Richland, NJ and now boasts more than 650 all-male students. The St. Augustine Prep soccer program has 5 New Jersey State Championships, 3 South Jersey Coaches Cup Tournament Title, and 25 Cape Atlantic League Titles (including 4 straight CAL Tournament Titles). Coach Justin Abbey is entering his 4th season as Head Coach after arriving from Rowan University where he was a longtime assistant.
