DR. TONY NEGRIN DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS It is with great pride and gratitude that I reflect on and write to you about Delbarton School’s 2025–2026 Athletic Year in Review. This past year has been marked by remarkable achievement, steadfast commitment, and a deep sense of brotherhood by all members of the Delbarton community. Across every season and every program, our student athletes demonstrated the discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship that define Delbarton Athletics. Their accomplishments, both collective and individual, reflect countless hours of preparation, the willingness to meet challenges with determination, and the strength found in working together. Truly, I believe that our students are the best in the country, and last year proved that once again. I would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our coaches and athletic department staff, whose leadership, expertise, and dedication have guided and supported our student athletes throughout the year. Their influence reaches well beyond competition, helping young men grow as teammates, leaders, and people of character. In true Benedictine fashion, we believe that the playing venue and locker room are simple extensions of the classroom, where we pride ourselves on educating the boys in mind, body, and spirit. I am equally grateful to the families, faculty, administrators, alumni, trainers, officials, volunteers, and supporters who have contributed so generously to the success of Delbarton athletics. Through their encouragement and service, they have helped create an environment in which our students can pursue excellence while representing Delbarton School with pride and integrity. This publication celebrates the accomplishments of every team, our student athletes, and all students who played an active role in the successful 2025-2026 Delbarton campaign. While championships, records, and honors deserve recognition, so too do the many less visible achievements: a teammate’s encouragement, a student athlete’s perseverance through adversity, and the daily commitment to improvement. Each represents an essential part of the Delbarton athletic experience. As we reflect upon the 2025–2026 academic year, we celebrate not only what our community has achieved, but also the values and relationships that made those achievements possible. DELBARTON ATHLETICS MISSION The Delbarton School Athletic Program is committed to the values that are consistent with the mission and overall objectives of Delbarton School. 2025 FALL SPORTS SUCCESS Delbarton Cross Country, coached by Collin Frost, put together a strong and consistent 2025, earning regular-

season victories over Montville, Chatham, Mendham, Randolph, and Morris Hills, finishing 5-1. In championship competition, Delbarton delivered solid team performances, placing fourth at the NJAC Championships and third at the CTC-Championships, continuing the program’s tradition of competing hard in big-race environments. The team was anchored by a veteran group, led by senior Matthew O’Reilly, junior Todd Smith, Jr. along with junior Ryan Leuenberger, who earned First Team All-Conference honors for his standout season. Their leadership and consistency helped guide a young roster.
Delbarton Football, under coach Brian Bowers, concluded the 2025 season with a 4–5 record, navigating one of the most challenging schedules in New Jersey. The Green Wave faced a slate that included top-ranked opponents from New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, providing valuable experience and growth throughout the fall. The season opened with two difficult road matchups but settled in once back home, earning its first victory with a 35–6 win over Monsignor Farrell. The team added additional wins over Seton Hall Prep, Pope John, and a standout 28–6 victory over DePaul Catholic, one of the program’s strongest overall performances of the year. The team returns with a solid core of players returning in 2026.
FOOTBALL
2025 FALL SPORTS SUCCESS Delbarton Soccer, led by coach Dr. David Donovan, finished the 2025 campaign with a 17-5-1 record and a conference championship. The squad of 30 players tackled the challenges of the most ambitious

schedule in program history with non-conference matches against Chaminade, St. Augustine, MKA, and Hun to go with a very competitive NJAC lineup. Through the thick of their campaign they earned 5 straight shutouts and outscored opponents 24-0 while capturing the NJAC-American championship in a division that featured three sectional finalists. In the NJSIAA Tournament, Delbarton defeated Bergen Catholic to earn a shot at #1 nationally ranked St. Benedict’s Prep in the sectional final. Facing a 2-0 halftime deficit, the Green Wave mounted a comeback to tie the game 2-2. Despite ultimately falling 3-2 in overtime, Delbarton proved it could stand toe-to-toe with the best team in the country. Earning All-State Honors after the season was Dylan Mazzarella (1st Team, All-State)

On May 2, 2025, Delbarton proudly re-dedicated Brian E. Fleury Field following a series of facility enhancements made possible through the generosity of donors. The renovations included a new brick backstop, upgraded netting, padded outfield walls, renovated dugouts, and several additional improvements, ensuring the baseball program has a first-class home while honoring the lasting impact of Coach Brian Fleury.

On September 20, 2025, the new Delbarton Cross Country course was dedicated to the late Andrew Pearson '09 with a large group of family, friends and the Green Wave Cross Country team in attendance. Andrew's mother Christine Pearson P '09,'11,'14,'14 spoke eloquently about her son and his love of long-distance running.

DELBARTON ATHLETICS & TECHNOLOGY Delbarton Athletics has embraced cutting-edge technology to elevate the student athlete and fan experience. Four Hudl camera systems provide automated coverage across indoor and outdoor venues, while baseball's state-of-the-art AWRE system delivers seven camera angles for real-time analytics and professional-quality livestreams. The student-run Green Wave Sports Network broadcasts football, soccer, basketball, wrestling, swimming, bowling, lacrosse, and baseball games live on YouTube, giving students hands-on experience with broadcasting, graphics production, camera operation, play-by-play commentary, sideline reporting, and postgame interviews. 2025-26 WINTER SPORTS SUCCESS Delbarton Basketball, coached by Matt Crane, finished the 2025–26 season with a 16–10 record, competing against a challenging schedule that included matchups with Seton Hall Prep, St. Benedict’s Prep, and Oratory Prep, along

with NJAC opponents Mendham and Montville. The Green Wave also performed well at the J.P. Flynn Tournament, finishing 2–1 against strong competition. During the regular season, Delbarton earned several notable victories, including wins over Morristown Beard, Oratory Prep, Ridge, and Regis High School (NY), demonstrating the team’s ability to compete with both local and regional programs. Their consistent play throughout the winter earned Delbarton a home game in the NJSIAA Non-Public A Tournament. In the opening round, the Green Wave battled Paramus Catholic in a tightly contested game before ultimately falling 65–61, bringing the season to a close.
The 2025–2026 season was a year of growth, resilience, and emerging potential for Delbarton Bowling. The Green Wave opened the season facing a challenging schedule, competing against some of the top programs in the conference. Early results did not always reflect the team’s effort, but each match provided valuable experience and set the foundation for steady improvement. Notable performances this season included a season-high team game over 1,000 pins and multiple individual 600+ series, reflecting the team’s increasing confidence and scoring ability. By the end of the season, Delbarton had established itself as a competitive and cohesive unit. While the 8-12 record may not fully capture the team’s progress, the growth in consistency, teamwork, and composure was evident.

2025-26 WINTER SPORTS SUCCESS Delbarton Hockey delivered another outstanding season in 2025–26 under head coach Bruce Shatel, matching the program’s success from the previous year by capturing the Gordon Division title, Gordon Cup, and the NJSIAA Non-Public State Championship. The Green Wave

finished the season 20–1–3 overall and did not lose to a New Jersey opponent. The team first secured the Gordon Cup with a 3–2 win over Don Bosco Prep. In the NJSIAA Non-Public Tournament, Delbarton continued its strong play, defeating St. Augustine to reach the state final. The championship game at the Prudential Center in Newark again matched Delbarton with Don Bosco Prep, the teams’ fourth meeting of the season. Trailing 2–0 midway through the third period, the Green Wave rallied with two power-play agoals to force overtime and in the extra session, senior co-captain Aidan Pasic ‘26 scored the gamewinner to secure a 3–2 victory and back-to-back state titles. At season’s end, the team was honored by nj.com as the Boy’s Hockey Team of the Year, Aidan Pasic earned Player of the Year. The team also earned an unprecedented four First-Team All-State selections: Aidan Pasic, Egor Andreev, Marco Zimovcak & Sean O’Gwen.

participation, steady improvement, and several notable individual accomplishments. The season presented its challenges early, as the team worked to recover from a difficult opening race and a key disqualification later in the schedule. Despite those setbacks, Delbarton continued to improve throughout the winter and finished the regular season ranked fourth entering the State Championships. Curt Friedrich was one of five who represented Delbarton at the Race of Champions, where he captured the boys Race of Champions title for the second time in three years. With continued development and a committed group of athletes, Delbarton Ski looks forward to building on this year’s progress in the seasons ahead.
SKIING
2025-26 WINTER SPORTS SUCCESS Delbarton Squash completed the 2025–26 season with a 7–11 record under head coach Craig Paris ’82, competing against a demanding schedule that included several

strong programs from both in-state and out-of-state. Throughout the winter, the Green Wave faced a number of experienced opponents while continuing to develop as a team. Delbarton recorded notable victories over Poly Prep, Malvern Prep, City Squash, and Fordham Prep, highlighting the group’s ability to compete with respected programs from across the region. The team’s season concluded on a high note in the U.S. High School National Championships in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Entering the tournament as the #1 seed in Division 5, the Green Wave delivered an excellent performance, winning each of their matches to capture the Division 5 national title.
Delbarton Swimming delivered a standout 2025–26 season under head coach Pat Savidge, finishing with an 11–2 overall record and capturing both the Morris County Championship and the NJSIAA Non-Public

title,
the
program’s
first
sectional
championship since 1986. The Green Wave established themselves as one of the top teams in the state throughout the winter. A highlight of the regular season came with a victory over Chatham, ending their 58-meet winning streak. In championship competition, Delbarton continued its strong performance, ultimately advancing to the Non-Public State Final, where the team competed in a tightly contested meet against St. Augustine Prep to close out the season. At the Meet of Champions, the 200m freestyle team would take gold, winning Delbarton’s first ever MOC championship. The team earned four All-State Honors: CJ Friends (1st), Max Ciechanowski (2nd), 400m Relay Team (2nd), 200m Medley Team)

2025-26 WINTER SPORTS SUCCESS Delbarton Indoor Track & Field, coached by Andrew Sherwood, put together a strong and well-rounded winter season, competing consistently across a full slate of

invitationals, relays, and championship meets throughout the winter. The team continued to show depth across events, earning strong finishes at the Morris County Relays (3rd place) and the State Relays (3rd overall), while placing second overall at the Morris County Championships. The team closed the season competing at top-level meets, including the Eastern States Championships, where Ponzio placed 5th in the high jump, and the Meet of Champions. Delbarton also saw success on the national stage, as the 4x800 relay team posted one of the program’s fastest times at New Balance Nationals.
Delbarton Wrestling, led by head coach Bryan Stoll, delivered another exceptional season in 2025–26, finishing with an 18– 2 record while competing against some of the top programs in the country. The Green Wave tested themselves throughout the winter at premier national events, including the Ironman Tournament, Catholic School Duals and the Doc Buchanan Invitational, where the team placed fourth overall and Jayden James earned an individual championship. One of the season’s signature moments came on January 22, when Delbarton hosted and defeated #2 nationally ranked Faith Christian Academy, 31–29, in a tightly contested dual. Delbarton continued its success in New Jersey, defeating CBA to capture the NJSIAA Non-Public A Championship. At Boardwalk Hall, the Green Wave was recognized as the 2026 Wrestling Team of the Year while crowning three state champions—Jayden James (Wrestler of the Year), Cameron Sontz, and CJ Betz.

2026 SPRING SPORTS SUCCESS Delbarton Baseball enjoyed one of the finest seasons in program history in 2026, finishing 28–4 overall under head coach Bruce Shatel while capturing the NJSIAA Non-Public A Championship.
BASEBALL
The Green Wave opened the season at the prestigious National High School Invitational in Cary, North Carolina then returned home to host the Mid-Atlantic Baseball Challenge, winning the title over Gloucester Catholic. The postseason saw the Green Wave continue its outstanding play. Delbarton defeated DePaul Catholic to win the NonPublic A North sectional championship. Six days later at Rutgers University, Delbarton defeated St. Augustine Prep 4–1 in 10 innings to claim the NJSIAA Non-Public A State Championship, the program's first state title since 2019. Five members of the team earned All-State honors: Sal Garcia (1st), Ted Masino (1st), Finn O’Loughlin (1st), Kyle McBride (2nd) and Lorenzo Maselli (3rd).
Delbarton Golf, coached by Sean Flanagan, continued its remarkable run of success in 2025–26, finishing with a perfect 15–0 record and securing a second consecutive undefeated season. The Green Wave consistently performed against some of the strongest competition in the state, earning notable dualmatch victories over Bergen Catholic, Chatham, Ranney, Seton Hall Prep, Ridge, and #1-ranked St. Joseph Regional. Delbarton also enjoyed success in tournament play, placing second at the Red Devil Invitational and second in the NJSIAA Non Public A North Sectional, while demonstrating the depth and consistency that defined the season. The

was
on
display
throughout the spring, closing the season in dramatic fashion by capturing the NJAC Championship.

GOLF
2026 SPRING SPORTS SUCCESS Delbarton Lacrosse enjoyed a historic season in 2026, finishing 22–6 overall under head coach Matt Kovachik. The Green Wave challenged themselves against one of the nation’s toughest schedules.
LACROSSE
The Green Wave carried that momentum into postseason play. Delbarton opened the Non-Public Tournament in dominant fashion. A 10–4 victory over Don Bosco Prep in the state semifinals earned Delbarton a spot in the championship game, where the Green Wave defeated Seton Hall Prep 8–7 to capture the program’s first Non-Public state championship since 2023. Delbarton continued its postseason success in the Kirst Cup, defeating Mountain Lakes 13–11 in the semifinals before edging Summit 10–9 in the championship game to claim the title as New Jersey’s #1 lacrosse program. The Green Wave also finished the season as NJ.com’s Team of the Year. Dara Corr (1st), Brandon Fodor (1st), Chase Houser (2nd) and Kane Quenault (3rd) earned All-State Honors at season’s end.
Delbarton Rugby completed the 2026 season with a 2–4 record under head coach John Majano-Lopez, competing against a challenging schedule that featured several of the region's top programs. The Green Wave earned home victories over Morris Rugby and Union, while facing tough competition throughout the season against St. Augustine Prep, Chaminade, and Christian Brothers Academy. One of the team's most determined efforts came in the season opener against St. Joseph's by-the-Sea. Despite playing the entire second half two players short, Delbarton continued to compete with resilience and determination in a hard-fought defeat. Although the results did not always reflect their effort, the Green Wave gained valuable experience against quality competition.
RUGBY
2026 SPRING SPORTS SUCCESS Delbarton Tennis enjoyed an outstanding 2026 season, finishing with a 22–3 record under head coach John Thompson while competing against one of the strongest schedules in the state. The

throughout the spring, beginning at the Bryan Bennett Tournament, defeating Pingry 3–2 in the semis before a 5–0 victory over West Windsor South in the championship match. The team followed with a victory at the prestigious Episcopal Doubles Tournament. Delbarton continued its success by winning the program’s 23rd Morris County Tournament Championship in 24 years.
At the NJSIAA Individual Championships, the
doubles team of Haydn Lee and Hugh Weldon captured the State Doubles Championship, defeating Pingry and earning Delbarton’s first state doubles title in school history, also earning First-Team, All-State honors.
Delbarton Track & Field put together a strong 2026 season under head coach Andrew Sherwood, finishing 3–1 in NJAC dual meets with victories over Chatham, Mendham, and Montville. The Green Wave enjoyed success throughout the season with Aidan Ponzio capturing the long jump title at the Morris County Relays. At the NJAC Championships, Delbarton finished fifth overall and Daniel Gallic won the javelin championship. Martin Hindelong also placed second in the high jump, continuing his strong postseason. Hindelong followed with another impressive performance at the NJSIAA Non-Public Group Championships, earning second place in the high jump. The Green Wave closed the season at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions, where Martin Hindelong finished 21st in the high jump, Alex Makovsky placed 24th in the pole vault, and Daniel Gallic finished 22nd in the javelin.
TRACK & FIELD
2026 SPRING SPORTS SUCCESS The spring of 2026 marked a historic milestone for Delbarton Athletics as Volleyball became the school's 18th varsity sport, competing in its inaugural season under head coach Jon Cote.
VOLLEYBALL
With only a handful of players bringing prior volleyball experience, the Green Wave spent the season learning the game and building the foundation for the future. Despite finishing 2–19, the team made program history on May 15, earning the first victory in school history with a 2–1 win over Dover in the NJAC Tournament. Delbarton closed the season with another memorable moment, defeating St. Benedict's Prep 2–0 in Newark on May 20 to secure the program's first regular season victory. While wins were limited, the inaugural season successfully established the culture, experience, and foundation upon which Delbarton Volleyball will continue to grow.
DELBARTON SPORTS PERFORMANCE Delbarton's Sports Performance program takes a comprehensive approach to developing every studentathlete through the integration of Strength & Conditioning and Sports Medicine. Guided by certified coaches and athletic trainers, the program emphasizes injury prevention, performance enhancement, recovery, and long-term athlete development while fostering discipline, resilience, and leadership. With state-of-the-art training facilities and individualized care, Green Wave athletes are equipped to perform at their highest level—safely, confidently, and with purpose.
