BREAKING NEWS
OVER 400 PEOPLE CAME TO CELEBRATE AND REMEMBER KATHY!
OVER $13,000 RAISED AT BENEFIT CONCERT
WHAT AN AWESOME WAY TO KEEP KATHY’S MEMORY ALIVE!
This year was the most successful yet for our annual Benefit Concert, held in memory of our late founder, Kathy Howe. It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of all who assisted with and attended the event. Thank you!

Looking Back at October BOO-tiful Barn Bash On Saturday, October 28th, DEFHR hosted our first ever (and hopefully annual) BOO-tiful Barn Bash! 9 teams of volunteer teams decorated stalls in Robin’s Nest and, in classic DEFHR volunteer style, they knocked it out of the park and made the event a huge success! As you can see from the photos, volunteers put a lot of time, planning and creativity into their stall creations. We raised over $600, but more than that, we engaged the community and welcomed many new families and children to the farm for the first time! Keep an eye out for our BOO-tiful Barn Bash to happen again next year and sign up to decorate a stall!

Muley (Forest) Muley (Forrest) update for all you mule lovers out there! He went on a field trip in the beginning of September to a mulemanship clinic with Ty Evans. There he met a new friend, a sheep, who kept him company while he was in his stall. He was a rock star in the clinic and he handled the new environment and all the chaos that can occur during a clinic professionally! He refined his lunging, leading, moving the hindquarters and forequarters, backing, flexing, standing still and much more. He trailered over to the clinic every day like a pro. So proud of this lil awkward mule and the good citizen he is becoming! “So proud of this lil awkward mule and the good citizen he is becoming!” Page 08

Volunteer Spotlight Lucy Schumacher
How long have you volunteered with DEFHR? I don’t remember the exact date, but I think I started volunteering in 2021 during the summer. So like 2 years.
Page 10
Do you have a favorite DEFHR herd member, past or present? If so, who? My favorite is probably Dot because I do Equidopt for her, but I also really like all the other horses too.
How did you initially find out about us? IMy dad volunteered here a few years before me, and I thought it sounded fun so I took the summer camp.
What's your favorite part of volunteering with DEFHR? I love getting to lead the hoho trainings and also just doing barn chores on Sundays. But it is all really fun.
Did you have any previous equine experience(s) before volunteering with DEFHR? What was it? Yes, I rode for several years before coming to DEFHR. I rode at a stable called Saddle Sprouts for a year, then I rode at Nickers Retreat for a year, and also I rode at Morningside Stables for 3 years. I don’t ride at all anymore.
