Every horse that comes through the gates of Days End Farm Horse Rescue has a story. Stories that are told in the court records that bring them here, the owners that ask for help, or in the concerned neighbors who noticed a horse in need. Then there are the other horses whose stories remain untold. The horses whose only testimonials came written across their bodies, in the bones so clearly visible from beneath their coats, in the lame leg struggling to hold the dwindling weight of their bodies, and in the bluntly cut tail, trimmed close to the dock that immediately caught our attention.
Among horse owners, it is not uncommon to save a beloved horse's tail as a keepsake at the end of their life. Whether that was the intention here, we'll never know. When Infamous Irvin was found wandering alone as a stray, it left us with questions we’ll likely never be able to answer. We may never learn how Irvin’s story began or the chapters that came before, but I can say with certainty that his story ended with dignity.

In those first trusting steps off the trailer and onto the ground at DEFHR, Irvin showed a quiet curiosity as he took in the place that would become his final home. There was no hesitancy, no fight. It’s almost as if Irvin felt in his bones that he was finally safe.
