Art Park Players is thrilled to announce auditions for Hairspray, The Musical! Hairspray is under the Direction and Dance Direction of Ryan Baker and Vocal Direction of Brandon Tanner and is a high-energy musical comedy set in 1960s Baltimore that follows the lovable and determined Tracy Turnblad, a bighearted teen with big hair and even bigger dreams.
When Tracy lands a spot on the popular Corny Collins Show, she quickly becomes a local celebrity and uses her newfound fame to fight for integration and acceptance on the television program. Filled with catchy songs, vibrant dance numbers, and plenty of humor, Hairspray celebrates individuality, inclusion, and the belief that one person really can make a difference.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week - April 12 - 18, 2026.
Established in 1981 and officially recognized by Congress and the President in the early 1990s, National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week honors the "first of the first responders." Held annually during the second week of April, this week celebrates the vital role dispatchers play in emergency services. Why We Honor Them

National Animal Care & Control Appreciation Week - April 12 - 18, 2026.

National Volunteer Appreciation Week - April 19 - 25, 2026.
National Volunteer Week is celebrated annually during the third week of April and this year it will be observed from April 19 to 25. This week-long celebration is about placing a spotlight on inspiring figures whose invaluable seeds of kindness through volunteering are bettering the community and our world in general. This significant celebration which was established in 1974 provides the perfect opportunity to say thank you. It also challenges us to do better and look for ways to be active participants, joining hands to impact our local communities and calling for more support. (National Today.)
If you would like to volunteer for the Deer Park Police Department, we encourage you to participate in our Citizen’s Police Academy. The CPA is a FREE 14-week program offered twice a year that gives participants an inside view of the police department. Once the class is complete, graduates can join our Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association. The DPCPAAA organizes several fundraisers and community events, as well as assists the police department with various assignments. The month begins on April 4 with Birdwatching at the Battleground from 7 to 9 AM. More than 200 species of birds pass over the battleground each year, and birders are welcomed two hours early to enjoy the sights of the site. Later that day, from 11 AM to 3 PM, San Jacinto Family Day: Make a Monument explores the construction of the San Jacinto Monument from 1936 to 1939 Visitors can learn about the monument’s history and create their own paper model to take home.
Cycling Saturdays returns on April 11 from 7 to 9 AM, opening the site roads early for bicyclists to travel the battleground at their own pace Afterward, from 10 AM to 1 PM, the Bay Area Weavers and Spinners present Spinning and Weaving, a demonstration inside the monument highlighting traditional textile crafts
On April 14 from 2:30 to 3:30 PM, SPARK! Revolutionary Flag Making invites participants to explore Texas Revolution–era flags using artifacts from the San Jacinto Museum and create a flag of their own. This program is designed for people living with memory loss and their families.
San Jacinto School Day takes place April 17 from 9:30 AM to 2 PM, featuring demonstrations of everyday activities as they were practiced in 1836 for visiting school groups.
The annual San Jacinto Celebration follows on April 18 from 10 AM to 4 PM, with reenactments, living history demonstrations, and family activities commemorating the 190th anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto The San Jacinto Celebration Lecture Series, running 10 AM to 3 PM, will feature talks by Dr. James Haley, James P. Bevill, Dr. Donald S. Frazier, and Stephen S. Cure exploring the history of the Texas Revolution
On April 19 from 12 to 3 PM, Picture Yourself at San Jacinto highlights the monument’s history alongside a popup photography gallery showcasing visitors’ photos through the years
