Design Lighting design is often the last thought in a project, but no matter where we come in, we will always work to provide solutions that work for you, the end user and the wider environment. Whether designing complex junctions, remote roads, dense housing estates or sprawling parks, we start in the same place: What is the right amount of light? Where is it needed most? When should we be applying artificial light to the area?

Section 38 A new area that is not currently adopted highway. We take these principles and design a sensitive scheme that looks after future residents, current flora and fauna and is in the best interests of the adopting authority.

Section 278 Existing roads need a different treatment. We make sure that our design works with the existing lighting installation and the proposed S38 design to create seamless transitions between old and new.

Assessment Lighting is also in need of assessing from time to time, often to confirm that wildlife are not impacted or to check that installations are performing as expected. We provide these services and more, to provide real world information about sites and projects. Site Inspections

Every accessible site should be subject to a survey. We provide this service, noting visual inspections, asset information, power supplies, private networks and site hazards, as well as inspecting trial holes and site works to report back to the Authority. All our surveyors are experienced on site and hold, as a minimum, a CSCS Professionally Qualified Person Card and G39.

Photometric Surveys

Photometric assessments, often called TR28 surveys are used to take measurements from existing installations and to determine if it is correct, as installed or if there may be obtrusive light issues in the area. We take measurements at ground level and specific vertical points to provide robust information on true site conditions.

Lighting Impact Assessments Where there is light, there is a potential for poorly designed or installed units that risk causing a nuisance. To make sure that we are meeting our obligations to people and planet, we can provide site based and desk top assessments such as lighting impact and baseline assessments to ILP PLG 04, modelling, and obtrusive lighting assessments to ILP GN 01.

Illuminated Advertisement Assessments

Similarly to the photometric assessments, sometimes there is a need to assess potential impacts from advertising, signs or screens. We use calibrated specialist luminance meters to measure and assess the brightness of the sign to support planning applications, environmental health and other such advisory requirements.

Technology Advisory Whether it’s questions about legislation, standards or best practice we are here to help and guide you every step of the way. For example, if light pollution is reported, we can provide the appropriate response and recommendations to all parties, or if there is confusion on site, we can provide that important link of knowledge and expertise to help bridge the gap and get projects moving again. Technical Approval Outsourcing We can provide complete solutions to 3rd party design approvals, including document sets, approval certificates, specifications, briefs and site walks on top of assessing and commenting on designs in the interests of the Authority. If the approvals team are struggling with a backlog or even if there is no team, we can provide any level of intervention to support lighting installations that are in the best interests of the Authority and the wider environment. Policy & Guidance

Technology, guidance and legislation are constantly evolving, and it can be difficult to keep up with ever changing requirements. We provide solutions including policy writing, planning conditions, specification and brief writing as well as market analysis and technical assessments for county-wide or funded projects. Asset Management Our team have experience with various asset management systems including Symology, Confirm/Brightly, PLANet and others. We can provide support with inventory management and updates as well as reporting on site status of equipment and validity checks.
