Kar 05 / 01 / 2002

Hi, I am Debjit Kar, 3rd year student pursuing Bachelor of Architecture in Anant National University, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. I am creative and energetic architect with expertise in conceptual design thinking and fundamental functional work. I have an innovative approach while designing comprehensive blueprints; consistently deliver enhancements to meet client’s specifications. I want to impact and help those around me. My passion and drive for helping others developed early in life. Architecture gives me the ability to do so. I hope to pursue a career in cultural, healthcare, hospitality, retail and workspace design.

01 Museum

Site : Gandhi Ashram

Area : 550 m2

Location : Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Semester : 03

Year : 2023

The project was set within the historic context of theGandhi Ashram, where a comprehensive site analysis formed the foundation of the design process. By studying movement patterns, visual connections, and potential site approaches, I strategically oriented the building to respond sensitively to its surroundings—particularly its proximity to the Charles Correa-designed Gandhi Memorial Museum.

The design is structured around a central axis that guides visitors through the space. On one side, I positioned the core program elements: a closed exhibition space and a semi-open exhibition courtyard, offering layered spatial experiences. On the other side, auxiliary functions such as an art gallery, workshop area, café, and washrooms were arranged to support the primary exhibition zones, encouraging interaction and gradual discovery. The spatial planning balances openness with enclosure, aligning with both the contemplative character of the site and its public engagement potential.

02 Housing

Site : Ambli Gam

Area : 3948 m2

Location : Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Semester : 04

Year : 2024

As part of a design studio focused on understanding organic settlements, we began by working with stamped templates of houses from Ambli Gam, a village near Ahmedabad. These were randomly arranged on a base sheet, allowing us to observe and analyze the spatial dynamics that emerged. Through this exercise, we uncovered seven critical layers of site analysis—road networks, edge conditions, service zones and affected areas, street hierarchies, open spaces and access points, vegetation, and community nodes such as shops and gathering areas.

Informed by detailed case studies and iterative explorations, we reimagined the village layout through four successive design interventions, gradually refining the spatial relationships until they began to function cohesively. From this evolved masterplan, we selected a specific portion to redesign at a micro level—introducing a modified housing typology with a balanced 50:50 ratio of built to open space, reinforcing both livability and community interaction.

are 8 apartments in total.

The stiarcase is L shaped and 1.2 m wide. Some potted plants are kept near the staircase for greenery and decoration.

There is 1 park in each cluster for the community to meet and gather.

03 Institution

Site : Centre for Environmental Education

Area : 1900 m2

Location : Ahmedabad, Gujarat

LEARNING FROM THE MASTER | Ar. Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi

The project was set on the site of the Centre for Development Education in Ahmedabad. After a thorough site study and development analysis, supported by case studies from institutions like Shreyas Foundation, CEE, and CEPT, we formulated our own educational program—an open, nature-integrated learning environment for students from Class 1 to 10.

Responding to the site’s natural contours, I designed the campus around three central spines that structure movement and activity. Key programmatic elements include classrooms, a multipurpose hall, and an academic block housing the canteen, library, and a series of interconnected spill-out spaces that encourage informal learning and interaction. The design also incorporates dedicated zones for laboratories, hands-on experiential learning, and play areas—creating a holistic, child-centric learning ecosystem rooted in nature.

Working Drawing

Site : Gandhi Ashram

Area : 1250 m2

Location : Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Semester : 06 (on-going)

Year : 2025

The working drawing set is currently being developed to translate the conceptual design into buildable format. This phase focuses on refining spatial dimensions, structural systems and climate responsive details suited to Ahmedabad’s hot-dry context. Preliminary drawings include plans, sections, and basic construction details, which are being iteratively improved to ensure clarity, feasibility, and alignment with the original design intent. As the drawings evolve, emphasis is placed on thermal comfort, child safety, and material efficiency, forming a strong foundation for execution.

“Every successful person remains a student of life, they know that they will never know everything. They know that the more you know, the more there is to know.”

05 Software Skills

June 2024 - June 2025 (ongoing)

I bring a unique blend of software proficiency and design sensibility that allows me to navigate the creative process with both precision and flexibility. My approach to architecture goes beyond aesthetics — it’s about integrating technical understanding with data-driven strategies to inform and enhance design decisions. I believe the future of architecture doesn’t solely lie in iconic skylines or grand urban interventions, but in our ability to synthesize complex informationand adapt with intent.

Over the past 2.5 years of my architectural journey, I’ve consistently sought to apply digital tools not just as representational mediums, but as instruments for real-world problem solving. Each step has deepened my curiosity and strengthened my commitment to building an optimistic, responsive future as a young designer. The following snapshots reflect this evolving journey — projects where I’ve explored form, light, space, and technology, and continue to learn every day.
