The project title is a word play on the famous Venetian architectural invention, but in this instance also refers to artists entering into a project with little knowledge of what they’re expected to do. The curators constructed six initial site-specific briefs, in which the artists considered issues of class, sexuality, colonialism, race, globalization and political structures. The curators framed these larger themes through unique events and histories relating to both the people and the city of Venice.
