TFROM THE CORNER OFFICE COLLECT THE DATA

his issue of Gelbvieh World finds many of us amid calving, selecting new sires, and making mating decisions for the spring breeding season. As we study for these events, much emphasis is placed on improving the next generation of cattle on our ranches. Monumental strides have been made by the American beef producer to create a better eating experience for consumers. This has occurred through science, data and hard work.

The Gelbvieh breed has made monumental strides congruent with the beef industry. Over 4,000 carcass records, reported over the past few years, showed Gelbvieh and Balancer® sired cattle graded 90% USDA Choice and Prime with 91% yield grades 1, 2, or 3. The cattle produced by Gelbvieh breeders have contributed to the increased demand

and improved eating experience for the American consumer. Have we reached a ceiling on carcass improvement? Absolutely not.

Reporting data is inherent to making genetic improvement. The database and thus EPDs become richer with more data submission. The increase in carcass quality has occurred largely because of better and more accurate tools to help breeders make better decisions, generation after generation. These tools only improve if we submit as many data points as possible. I encourage all AGA members to submit more weights and measures this year than last.

The Gelbvieh female is, without question, the hardest working cow in the industry. Recent USMARC data proved that she produces 22.7 more pounds at weaning

than any other British or Continental breed. By submitting breeding exposure data, udder scores, body condition scores, and feet scores, we can continue improving the Gelbvieh cow. Tools created with this data allow both purebred and commercial producers to make better decisions to maintain profitability despite the market.

All indicators point to this being a historic year for the beef cattle industry. The same can be said for the American Gelbvieh Association (AGA). Through improved genetic tools and increased selection pressure, Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle will continue to gain market share and provide cattlemen and beef consumers with the results they desire. We can achieve this through science, data and hard work. I look forward to seeing you down the road.F

TJUNIOR CONNECTION TICKETS! PLEASE GET YOUR TICKETS!

he 2026 National Gelbvieh and Balancer® Show and Sale, hosted in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at Cattleman’s Congress, was the place to be at the start of the new year. Breeders and junior members came together to not only exhibit their cattle but market their genetics and network with friends, new and old. Working in the ring as a junior board member was a great front row seat to experience the quality exhibited and crown the first national champions in the new OG&E Coliseum.

The largest fundraiser for the American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) was also a highlight in the busy week. Each year, the AGJA holds a heifer raffle to

raise funds for the association and its members. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Beastrom Ranch for their generous donation of the heifer. Another thank you goes to Sullivan Supply for donating a Beast Blower to the raffle as well. The continuation of the incentive program also could not have been possible without our generous sponsor, September Farms. Our appreciation also goes out to all of those who purchased tickets! Your kind proceeds benefit AGJA programs, events, and activities that help shape the next generation of industry leaders.

As friendly competition between junior members to see who can sell the most tickets ran throughout the barns, it’s great to see younger members networking with producers and sharpening salesmanship skills along the way. By the conclusion of the national show and sale, new memories were made, connections had grown, and great cattle were showcased. Congratulations to all those who found success down in cattle country and thank you again to all those who supported our fundraiser. F

INFORMATION EXCHANGE

2026 HERD ASSESSMENTS DUE MARCH 15

2026 Herd Assessments are available for completion on the American Gelbvieh Association (AGA) Online Registry Service. As a reminder, the annual herd assessment process is not automatically completed by AGA’s registry system. Members must log onto the AGA Online Registry Service and fully complete a herd assessment for females in their herd.

HAVE YOUR SAY ON DNA SAMPLE STORAGE

DNA samples submitted for testing through the AGA are processed at Neogen. After processing, the samples are stored by the lab should further DNA testing be required. Beginning in 2022, due to the increasing volume of samples received industry-wide, Neogen implemented a limited storage retention period of one year and began returning DNA samples to breed associations for continued storage.

As these samples are returned on an ongoing, month-bymonth basis, it is AGA’s responsibility for the organization and storage of blood and hair samples. With continued growth in sample volume, it is necessary to establish a sustainable approach to DNA sample storage, and we are seeking member feedback. Please scan the QR code by March 15, 2026, to share how you would like samples to be handled moving forward. Your feedback will help guide future decisions.

The award is given to the one woman who has gone above and beyond to support the mission and vision of ANCW.

NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN FOR THE 2026 AMERICAN GELBVIEH JUNIOR ASSOCIATION JUNIOR BREEDER OF THE YEAR

The 2025-2026 American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) board of directors is excited to open the nomination process for the AGJA Junior Breeder of the Year award. The award and nomination process is focused on the opportunity to recognize a junior member who goes above and beyond the call of duty regarding the Gelbvieh breed, their family’s operation, educating others about the breed, as well as exemplifying good character and leadership skills among their peers. Looking to the future, the AGJA hopes to continue providing an atmosphere of inclusion, leadership, professional development, and opportunity to all youth. For more information on the nomination process, eligibility and more, visit Gelbvieh.org/ juniors/agja-events/junior-classic. Nominations close April 1, 2026.

REGISTRY TIPS N’ TRICKS TRANSFER TACTICS

PLACING AN ANIMAL IN YOUR TRANSFER QUEUE

1. Log into your American Gelbvieh Association (AGA) Online Registry Service account.

2. Locate and select the “Herd” tab. There are another series of tabs that will help organize your animals by sex as well as age to conveniently locate an animal within your inventory.

3. Notice the columns of grey boxes to the right of each animal: View, Edit, Transfer, Dispose, and Not for Sale.

4. Simply locate the animal(s) being transferred and select “Transfer”. When doing so, the button will turn from grey to white and read “Queued”. This means the animal has been added to your transfer queue and is awaiting buyer information.

5. Locate and select the red arrow on the left work menu that reads “Work Queues”.

6. From this drop down, select the green arrow that reads “Transfers.”

PLACING THE BUYER’S INFORMATION ON THE ANIMAL(S).

The following screen will show you each animal that you have selected to be transferred. Each animal’s registration number, birth date, tattoo and sex are listed within each section to differentiate for those who may be sending animals to multiple buyers within the same process. If you are transferring all animals within the transfer queue to the same buyer locate the section at the top of the screen (Figure A) asking for the buyer’s information. If you are transferring animals to multiple buyers within the

same transfer queue enter the details for each animal individually (Figure B).

Only enter information in the top section if all animals within the queue are going to the same buyer.

Once you have identified your buyer, locate the white box under “% Transferred”. If you are transferring the animal completely to the buyer, enter 100. If you are retaining ownership of the animal in any capacity, you will enter the percentage this buyer possesses; 50%, 33%, etc. Finally, be sure the transfer date matches their purchase date. Once the transfer details have been entered according to the sale, location, and date select “Validate” under each animal’s transfer detail section. If all details turn green, simply select the preference of the buyer regarding the registration certificate; “Mail to Buyer”, “Email to Buyer”, and “No Certificate Requested.” The option to email a digital certificate to the buyer is only made possible if the buyer has an email address on file with the AGA. If an error appears, contact the AGA office directly for assistance.

HOW DO I LOCATE MY BUYER’S MEMBER OR NON-MEMBER NUMBER?

In the white box beneath “Buyer,” you will enter the AGA member number of the individual you wish to transfer the animal to. If you do not know their AGA number or if they are not a member of the association, simply click “Search for Buyer”.

On this screen, you will be prompted to enter the buyer’s zip code and select “Find Profiles”. This will initiate a search for any individual/ranch that has purchased Gelbvieh or Balancer® animals in the past. If the buyer is found within that list, simply click the box to the left of their name. If the buyer does not appear, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click “Click to Create a new Profile”. You will be prompted to enter their mailing address creating a non-member number for said buyer.

We encourage you to take advantage of the tools that are available to each member of the AGA. If you have any questions, please call the AGA office at 303-465-2333. We are always happy to help!F

RING OF GOLD CHAMPIONS ANNOUNCED

The American Gelbvieh Association (AGA) established the Ring of Gold program to honor the top animals shown at the conclusion of the show year. Points are earned from grand and reserve champions, as well as division champions and reserves, and are based on the actual number of animals shown at each show per division.

To honor those animals who have risen to the top during the show season, the Ring of Gold awards are presented to the top Gelbvieh female, Gelbvieh bull, Balancer female, and Balancer bull based on points awarded throughout the year. Animals must earn points in at least two shows to qualify for Ring of Gold points each year. The 2025 Ring of Gold qualified shows in either the Gelbvieh, Balancer or both divisions were the American Royal, Cattlemen’s Congress, Iowa State Fair, Missouri State Fair, National Western Stock Show,

North American International Livestock Exposition, and the NILE Stock Show. The following is a list of the top animals in their Ring of Gold division. Junior shows are not calculated in the total number of entries for the Ring of Gold tabulations.
