Subsurface Utility Engineering

Delivering highly accurate designating and mapping of underground utilities

Our subsurface utility engineering (SUE) team delivers highly accurate designating and mapping of underground utilities and help clients avoid costly utility conflicts or construction delays caused by unknown or misrepresented utilities. Three national magazines have published articles on the DCCM SUE team and their use of cutting-edge electromagnetic technologies to find and map utilities as deep as 50 feet. Our extensive use of electromagnetic technologies is coupled with vacuum excavation and safe-dig technologies to further locate and identify utilities. Our SUE and Utility Coordination teams work closely together and form a real synergy in managing all aspects of utility relocations and redesigns, including avoiding and resolving utility conflicts and addressing construction issues. Our professionals have in-house capabilities to take any project from concept to fully operational status, with a proven track record of achieving the best balance of accuracy, cost, and timeliness.

Projects

SH 146 RECONSTRUCTION

TXDOT | KEMAH, TEXAS

DCCM supported the SH 146 reconstruction in Kemah by delivering complex SUE services for construction improvements. The team located undocumented plastic water and wastewater lines lacking tracer wire by coordinating with the utility provider, reviewing records, conducting field assessments, inserting fish tape for designation, and confirming results through QL-A test holes.

FM 2818 IMPROVEMENTS

CITY OF COLLEGE STATION | COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS

Delivering SUE services for the FM 2818 corridor, DCCM supported a 3.2-mile roadway project near Texas A&M University. The team coordinated around football schedules, engaged stakeholders, resolved conflicts, and performed detailed utility investigations, providing accurate data that supported efficient project development and construction coordination within a highly visible and heavily traveled environment.

SH 35 (SPUR 5) ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS

TXDOT | HOUSTON, TEXAS

For the SH 35 Spur 5 project, DCCM delivered comprehensive SUE services for a major multi segment corridor improvement, including highway expansion, connectors, feeder roads, detention, and rail crossing. The team coordinated five consultants, standardized data through a shared platform, performed SUE, and supplemented other providers’ work to maintain project consistency and delivery.
