Hoya kerrii ‘Variegata’

This charming succulent features heart-shaped leaves and delightful star-shaped flowers, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor cultivation. Here are some essential tips to help you care for your newly potted plant.

SUNLIGHT

Indoor Growth: Place your succulent in a bright area. An east, south or even west-facing window will provide optimal light for its growth.

Outdoor Growth: If growing outside, keep it on a covered patio to ensure it receives bright but indirect light. Excessive sunlight, especially in summer, can cause the leaves to brown from sun damage. While they can be planted in the ground, they thrive best under a tree with filtered sunlight.

WATER

Water your succulent only when the soil is dry. These plants do not require frequent watering, so allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. A moisture meter can help determine when it’s time to water. Be cautious, as overwatering can lead to root rot.

FERTILIZATION

Succulents in pots will benefit from occasional fertilization. During the warm season, use a watersoluble fertilizer at half strength with every watering. Refrain from fertilizing in winter when the plant’s growth slows. Alternatively, you can apply a granular fertilizer in early spring and late summer.

PROPAGATION

Hoyas are simple to propagate. Just cut off a heartshaped leaf at the joint and place it in soil. Allow a few weeks for roots to develop.

RE-POTTING

Hoyas are tolerant of being in close quarters, so you may not need to repot for several years. When you do repot, use a cactus and succulent potting mix and consider adding perlite or pumice for enhanced drainage. Ensure that your pot has a drainage hole at the bottom.
