Town Meeting to Consider $1M for Road Paving By Aaron Rubin Staff Writer MADISON
A special town meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, July 13, at Neck River Elementary School to consider appropriating $1 million from Madison’s fund balance into its Major Roads Fund to help accelerate road paving later this fall, First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons said.
According to minutes from the Board of Selectmen’s June 22 meeting, when the board approved a motion to call the special meeting, “Funds will come from the excess fund balance — property tax dollars that have been collected in past years that are now being deployed back into the community.” The special meeting comes after a paving study conducted in 2024 and extensive dis-
cussion during the recent budget season prompted by residents’ concerns about road conditions. Regarding the paving study, Lyons said engineering consultants Beta Group performed a comprehensive assessment of Madison’s roads. They found the town has a road rating “on par with a municipality of our size” and comparable to other
