Freedom, Opportunity Await Daniel Hand Grads By Aaron Rubin Staff Writer

The Daniel Hand High School Class of 2026 will look to the bright futures ahead of them with a sense of freedom and openness to new opportunities and experiences following their graduation ceremony on the Town Green on June 17. The idea of freedom was expressed in the

speech made by class essayist David Jacoby. He said that the milestone of high school graduation admittedly comes with “some lingering nervousness” and that while he is “excited to be free,” he is also “nervous because I’m not so sure what that means.” He recounted some of his past experiences that he recognized as moments of freedom — such as running a marathon or making a

deliberate choice to refrain from using personal devices because they represent moments of “intentionality and presence,” Jacoby said. “Freedom happens most often when I commit to something, take a step back, and acknowledge that moment for exactly what it See Freedom, Opportunity page 14
