Town to Fund Natural Resource Inventory By Aaron Rubin Staff Writer

The Madison Board of Selectmen has committed to funding a long-awaited natural resource inventory, a project endorsed by the Conservation Commission as a highly supportive measure for protecting numerous key public and private assets in Madison and supporting the town’s development goals.

According to the current Plan of Conservation and Development, the inventory should function as a “critical resource for the town’s boards, commissions, and departments.” It continues, “With this tool, the Conservation Commission is better able to act as an advisor to other town boards and commissions on the status of Madison’s natural resources.”

No specific amount has been formally allocated for the work involved in the inventory, but Conservation Commission Chair Heather Crawford told the selectmen that she and her colleagues are aiming for up to $50,000 in support from the town. Crawford came to the board’s April 7 meeting with “a
