Branford Proclaims ‘Sun Shines on Branford’ Day Sept. 20 By Pam Johnson Sound Senior Staff Writer

In advance of “Sun Shines on Branford” day on Saturday, Sept. 20, a proclamation was read at the Board of Selectmen’s meeting Sept. 3 inviting the community to join in the town-wide celebration and take action to adopt clean energy practices. The traditional 5-5-5 bell tolling honors firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice, a custom dating back to telegraph fire alarm systems that transmitted the signal when a firefighter died in the line of duty. The town’s annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony marks the 24th anniversary of the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people at the World Trade Center, Pentagon and in Pennsylvania.
