Smith Library Closed for $1.3M HVAC Project By Laura Robida Managing Editor
The Edward Smith Library in Northford is closed for approximately two to three months as the town undertakes a major HVAC replacement project expected to cost more than $1.3 million. Library officials said the building closed
May 4 and is expected to reopen in early August following installation of a new heating and cooling system after the existing system failed. According to March 11 Library Board minutes, library officials reported that the Edward Smith Library HVAC system had “completely failed,” prompting the use of temporary environmental controls inside the
building while replacement plans moved forward. The minutes also referenced concerns about humidity and possible impacts to library materials during the closure period. On March 17, the Town Council approved awarding the Edward Smith Library HVAC Replacement project to Air Temp Mechanical
