Fortuna Looks Ahead to 8th Term, Reflects on 7th By Eric O'Connell Staff Writer
Incumbent Republican Carl Fortuna, Jr., is running unopposed for his eighth term as First Selectman of Old Saybrook, and this is the fourth straight election Democrats have declined to run a nominee. For Fortuna, the impetus for seeking another term is driven by an excitement to see some plans the town
is still pursuing become a reality. “I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve Old Saybrook for another two years. I still have the same passion and energy to deliver good, responsive government to our residents, businesses, and visitors. The town is pursuing many important initiatives in the short and medium term, and I am eager to see them through,” Fortuna said. Specifically, Fortuna highlighted some
traffic and construction projects the town will break ground on in the near future. “In the coming months, we expect to complete improvements on three Main Street crosswalks and begin planning for another in front of The Kate. Assistant Manager Chance Barclay spends time with Poppy, one of several cats up for adoption at All the Single Kitties Cat Cafe in Old Saybrook on Oct. 11. The cat cafe partners with rescue group A Chance for Love and has found forever homes for more than 230 cats since opening in November 2022. All the Single Kitties Cat Cafe is open Thursday through Sunday by appointment.
