Town and WAA Reach Agreement By Eric O'Connell Staff Writer WESTBROOK

Westbrook residents approved up to $800,000 for the Westbrook Volunteer Fire Department to assume ambulance service, while the town and the Westbrook Ambulance Association announced an agreement

expected to resolve the remaining litigation between them and pave the way for the transition. The appropriation was passed unanimously at a town meeting on July 9. After the meeting, Westbrook First Selectman John Hall told the Harbor News that the bulk of that money will be spent on purchas-

ing two new ambulances and outfitting them with the required medical equipment. Previously, a department spokesperson had identified payroll, gear, uniforms, maintenance, fuel, and training as other required expenses. The town first announced in March that See Town and WAA page 5

A Boatload of Caring Richard Fazzuoli, of the Westbrook Council of Beach Associations, collects a food donation from Jim Hirst during the Fill the Boat with Food event on the Westbrook Town Green on July 11. Donations were loaded onto a truck at the end of the event to benefit The Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries and the food pantry at St. Mark's Church. The event collected more food and monetary donations than any previous year, according to Pat Marcarelli of the council.
