Clinton Budgets Set; BOE Cuts Remain By Eric O'Connell Staff Writer
Clinton voters approved the town’s proposed education budget at a second referendum, finalizing a $67.5 million spending plan for the upcoming fiscal year. However, the Board of Education will still need to identify $800,000 in cuts to bring its budget in line with the amount approved by voters.
At a second budget referendum held May 27, Clinton voters approved the Board of Education budget by a 771-674 vote (53% to 47%). Clinton’s total budget for the next fiscal year is set at $67,526,139, a $1,104,694, or 1.66%, increase over the current fiscal year. A total of 1,445 voters, about 14% of registered voters, cast ballots at the second referendum, just 56 fewer than the 1,501 voters
who turned out at the first referendum May 13. Both 2026 referenda drew the highest turnout for budget votes in five years. The school spending plan approved at the second referendum totals $44,288,204 — a $1,421,708, or 3.32%, increase over the current year’s budget. That request had been See Clinton page 14
