Town Manager Details Budget, Tax Changes By Eric O'Connell Staff Writer

With a public hearing on Clinton’s proposed budget approaching, the town manager explained to the Harbor News how the recently completed revaluation is affecting the proposed budget and taxpayers. Last month, the Town Council unani-

mously voted to forward both a proposed town budget and a proposed education budget to a public hearing scheduled for Monday, April 20. Under the current proposal, the town budget is $23,373,935, a $181,013, or 0.8%, decrease from last year. Meanwhile, the education budget is $44,788,204, a $1,921,708, or 4.5%, increase. The total proposed budget is

$68,162,139, a $1,740,695, or 2.6%, increase. Since the council’s vote, the number that has most caught residents’ attention is the projected individual tax increase, a figure affected by a recent state-mandated, townwide property revaluation, rising operational costs, and past budgeting practices.
