Town Adopts Updated Plan of Conservation and Development By Aaron Rubin Staff Writer

Following the addition of several policy recommendations based on public feedback, the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously adopted Guilford’s updated Plan of Conservation and Development during a special meeting June 29. The updated plan will help guide town policy and development over the next 10 years. The commission approved several revi-

sions to the plan, about half of which focused on environmental and conservation issues. One addition calls for continued efforts to improve water quality at Lake Quonnipaug while supporting seasonal recreational use, as recommended by consultant Resilient Land and Water LLC. Other environmental recommendations include expanding the town’s Natural Resources Inventory “to better guide future resource management and open space acqui-

sition;” supporting the development of a townwide management plan for open spaces that lack individual management plans; and continuing efforts “to reduce light pollution through timed lighting and other sustainability initiatives.” A total of 85 comments were submitted to the Planning and Zoning Commission during the 65-day public comment period leading up
